  1. Spent the afternoon under the front N/S corner of the 04 Cayenne Turbo, looking to replace the seals on the boost hoses and dump valve.

When unclipping the bottom turbo hose from the intercooler, I was stunned to find at least 1/4 litre of oil pour out of the hose onto the floor.

In all my years, I've never taken a hose off a turbo and seen that much oil.

Has anyone else on here taken the hose off the bottom of the intercooler on the N/S (Drivers side US & Europe, Passenger side UK) and experenced it full of oil? I'm worried about the state of the oil seals on the N/S turbo. Is this a feature of the Cayenne's turbo design??

I replaced all of the seals on the hoses at the O/S earlier in the year, and the bottom hose was dry. This N/S hose is shaped differently, but should it collect 1/4 litre of oil like this?

    Thanks

    Chris

  2. Turning off the PSM will automatically drop the car in first as soon as it drops below a certain speed or comes to a standstill. I know its not a Turbo S, and only a Turbo, but I have the same disappointment with off the line acceleration / soft launch, until the turbo's spool up.

With PSM off, in manual, in first gear, my Turbo can be beaten off a standing start by a hot hatch and embarrassed until the Turbo's spin up. Once the Turbos are spinning, it's goodbye.

  3. put your nail between the edge of the green cap and the black connector and separate. Once the green cap is moved back, you will see a inner collar that grips onto the airbox tube. Using a flat bladed screwdriver, or small fingers, push the spung inner collar away from the airbox, into the connector. when you have pushed the inner collar in, pull on the hose and the connector will separate from the airbox tube. to put in on, just push the connector onto the tube coming off the airbox, then push the green cover over the sprung inner collar. The inner collar grips the airbox tube.

  4. Hey Folks, need your help

My current tyres are coming to the end of their life, and Im possibly thinking about new wheels, rather than getting the old 20" wheels re-finished.

I was thinking about replacing the current 20" Turbo wheels, with 20" Turbo II wheels, but then thought they may look a little too small? Firstly, does anyone have a pic of a 955 CTT on 20" Turbo II wheels.

I dont want 22's as the car won't sit right, + I don't want to ruin the ride, however I was wondering what 21's look like on a 955. I know the 957 Turbo S was fitted with 21's 295-35-R21, however will these fit under my arches without rubbing? my current tyres are 275-40-R20

Does anyone have any pics of 21" wheels, Turbo II or the Turbo S type on a 955 CTT. Does anyone know the rolling radius of 295-35-R21 compared to 275-40-R20?

    Thanks in advance

    Chris

  5. I've a PCM with a Dension system fitted, for bluetooth for my iphone. Originally when I bought the car, I didnt realise the dension system was fitted, and fitted a sim chip into the PCM. Now I read the above, I recall two or three system crashes / resets in my time with the car over a year and a half period. I will remove the sim from the tray, and let you know if it ever crashes / resets again. Cheers

I dont think its your battery. I have a new battery, and my mirrors still play up. I think its the switch on the drivers door, when adjusting my drivers mirror, my passenger mirror is moving at the same time. annoying, it doesn't happen all the time, but sometimes.

it also sometimes doesn't matter where which position the switch is in when reversing into the garage, the passenger mirror still dips, even when the switch is set for to the drivers door adjustment only.

I've seen procedures for reset of the cars electronic memories, you could try these, or disconnecting the battery for 15 minutes. for me, its just one of those things, I will get round to replacing that switch eventually, I put it down to a car stuffed with electronic gadgets, some are going to play up from time to time!

    Regards

  7. I think you're going about this the wrong way, you risk damage to components by using too much air pressure and throwing parts at a vehicle in the hopes of repair is the worst thing to do. I recommend having the system smoke tested to locate leaks. That code can be caused weak divertor valve, waste gate control or once I had a MAF sensor cause this issue with fuel trim codes.

Hi wvicary, I thought that too, that's why I am only going to 1 bar, as the system is apparently good for 1.1 bar. I also have a relief valve in there too.

I have no one to go to that is able to do a smoke test, and the leak is so small, and so intermittent, I doubt it would show up.

What do you mean by divertor valve? Do you mean dump valve?

    waste gate control valve? N75?

it's starting to do my head in, and I have to catch it in the summer, or the problem disappears in the cold of the winter. The problem is that the engine bay is stuffed so full, it's not easy to see parts and look for problems.

  8. Need your guys help & expertise please

I've been trying to find the cause of the P0299 underboost code for a while now and after randomly stabbing in the dark by changing intercooler, Y-piece, hoses, N75 valve, I read a really good post on here (in the 996 section) about pressure testing.

I've spent the last few weeks, getting a gauge, schrader valve, fittings, and various sizes of hose so I can T into the lines of the turbo system (it was the offside turbo to bottom of the N75 I actually Tee'd into) and yesterday, tried to test the system using my compressor.

The more I think about it, I now realise that I would have to plug both of the airboxes and the throttle I think.

Has anyone performed an intake pressure test on a Cayenne Turbo on here?

If so, What is the best hose to T into?

How many hoses do you have to block off?

Do I have to remove the throttle body and blank behind it?

    Thanks in advance

    Chris

  9. Hi wvicary, thanks for that. How are the maps different? do you know?

How long do I need to drive before the gearbox learns my shift patterns?

Just recently changed the battery, because it was weak after I killed it after a long lay up. it's getting a good charge from the alternator, so should be OK.

How do you use the Durametric program with you're Mac? Do you run parallels, or something similar??

    Thanks

    Chris

  10. Hi

I have a question please I wonder if someone can answer?

I have a 2004/05 4.5V8 Twin Turbo, Tiptronic. When driving normally, leaving the car in normal D (Drive) the car is quick to shift gears between 2000 and 3000rpm, going up the gears as quickly as it can, often leaving me in too high a gear and being very sluggish.

I've recently noticed, if I turn off the PSM button, the car shifts alot later in the revs, between 3500 and 4500 and in doing so, always sits just on the turbo and feels so much more responsive.

flick the PSM back on, and the car returns back to its sluggish ways, trying to climb the gears far too early.

If I drive the car in manual/tiptronic (I do the majority of the time once the car is warm) I tend to drive it changing between 3000 and 4000 rpm. The gearbox is meant to remember the way I drive and respond accordingly, however doesn't seem to be learning??

I do wonder if its the underboost (boost leak) problem I've been trying to get to the bottom of, is affecting it, by the car flipping into limp home mode and wiping the gearchange memory?

I'm showing no error codes on the iPhone Rev application, however am currently unable to stick the durametric program into the car as I have switched from PC to Mac.

I've had the car into the dealer and mentioned the early gearchange and they said sometimes the gearbox settings can stick and reset it for me, however it doesnt seem to make a difference.

Can anyone shed any light on this? ... does the car have a different engine / gearshift map without PSM on??

    Thanks

    Chris

  11. Cheers guys for you're feedback.

Right - update, changed out the battery and despite an error message on the display about a fault with he stability management, it disappeared when I rolled off the driveway. Took the car for a good run and the only one that has come back regular (other than P0299 underboost) is the oxygen sensor on bank 2 before the cat. This is to be changed out on Thursday.

As for the underboost, that's a whole bigger can of worms to investigate another day!
