  1. my exp. is, cert. mail from lawyer is the only way to let ppl listen to you. if you kinf enough, wait 3 days, but, then again, that lawyer letter header won't come cheap. :) ask how i knew......
  2. just some updates. got my car back last week. 1. cel, P0446, the valve is bad, replaced, and relaced some vent line too. part: $277, labor: 282 cel stays off after 700 miles. :-) 2. clunk noise in driver-side front when moving slowly. bad seal in control arm, had to replaced the whole thing/ part: $300, labor: $153 the car handles better, as the front feels much tighter than before. still not as good as some of the 996/997 i drove before. so $1000 later, i truely enjoy the car now!
  3. i had creakin noise in my front, turned to be bad control arm. costed me about $500 (part + labor) to fix.
  4. x5rap, can you share your exp. with your warranty company? i have a MY01 996 and looking for a warranty company. thanks
  5. norton-sp, i read some posts here saying 0W40 is not good enough cause 40 is too low, so 5W50 provides better protection? 1999Porsche911, i am sure you can jump in and give your thoughts. well, at least, you can drive that fast in autobahn ...
  6. what grade of engine oil using? 0W40? or 5W50? any indication before the engine went south, like noise, smoke, oil comsuption? get a new engine and drive even harder! :)
  7. Air Pressure is probably the reason for the steering response feeling better. PSM has nothing to do with the steering system. If you have to ask about tracking a car with PSM on or off, then it is probably best for you to drive on the track with it engaged. i don't have PSM on my car, oh boy it gets tricky/ugly sometimes.
  8. from my limited engineering class back in college many years ago. the new design has the "neck" so when coolant spoils out, it will drop back to the coolant reserver along the edge of the neck, instead of keep on the pad, finding it's way out from the coolant reservior. my old cap did hold pressure tight, but coolant kept seeping out, leaving a bad smell after driving for a hour or 2. after i change to the new design, no more bad coolant smell! so again, change 00 cap no matter what! cheap part too. loren, does this make me a "Contributing Member " even though i didn't have to post a pic. cause someone did before? :clapping:
  9. TP - what is exactly wrong with the .00 cap? I upgraded to the .01, but am still trying to figure out the differences, they look almost identical... Ross i will take a pic. of the 00 cap and 01 cap when i got home tonight, very interesting designe change.
  10. coolant reservior cap. check to see if the coolant reservior edge has some coolant leaks out. i had this problem. resolved by a new coolean reservior cap. $16.
  11. in fact, i passed the inspection about a front&rear brake job. and i don't feel the strong "pushing to front" thing when braking hard any more. i guess, the inspection makes sense, to some degree. but the P0446 came back last night. will have to make another trip to the shop now. :(
  12. well, i reset them, and hoping for the best! i used to have bad dream about exam, even though last time i went to classroom was more than 10 years, i might start have dreams about cel now. :D
  13. but did it once won't cause any physical damage to the car, right? just hard to admit i damage my baby before even take it home :( i didn't shut off engine cause the car was sitting for 2 weeks before i pick it up, was worrying about the battery.
  14. then again, bad coolant smell came out, looked at my cap, 996.106.447.00 sure enough, time for a new updated cap. :)
  15. i bot a small reader ($75) from autozone today, and put it into my grove box, ready to read code any time!
  16. thx, loren, and i assume it's ok to drive the car as normal for a few days after i clear the code, right?
  17. i pulled the new code today: P1130 Oxygen sensing adaptation, idle range, bank 2 taking the first error code into considirition, i might have a vacume leak some where. will drive the car next week. if it happens, will take the car to the indy who did my brake.
  18. thanks, i will go to autozone to reset it one more time, and hope it won't come back! :)
  19. took to a porsche indy last week. changed front and rear pads. bal. 4 wheels. the car feels much better. the brake has some noise when going slow in traffic, guess it's normal. but, on my way home, the CEL went on, need to take the car back to the tech. my cel went on before, and i resetted it in autozone, P0446 EVAP Canister Shutoff Valve (Function) - Below Lower Limit i throught it might related to me not shut-off engine when refilling gas. any thoughts on this CEL?
  20. it works. as said. 1. search for the channle you want to set. 2. press the small key, the org. setting station will come on for a few second.(VERY bad design), don't release the button, after a few seconds, you will hear a beep. station is set.
  21. i too had the same question. gotta try it tomorrow. guess porsche trying to be different??
  22. thx loren, that seems to be where the money's at. i will do it tomorrow and let you know the result. BTW, do you still have 2001 996 C2 order guide and owner manul pdf? :D
  23. Try bleeding the brake system. someone in other place suggested the samething. i go down to check the fluid now. will do it first thing Sat. thanks
