  1. You can get a GAHH aftermarket top with glass window online for around $600. There's a guy named Peter Serbanica on the 986forum.com that is a top installer, and can both order the top for you (so you would get full warranty) and install it in around 4 hrs while you wait. He charges about $400 for the install plus the cost of the top, and so total price would be around $1k, if you're willing to drive to NJ to have it done. No affiliation, but I was considering going with him prior to finding an OEM 2003 top with complete frame that I threw on my car instead. I would advise against going with another plastic window because all it takes is one cold day when you put the top down when it can crack again.
  2. That's the thing...I don't think there are enough people out there who want a "complete transformation" of their Boxsters to look like a Cayman to sustain a business making just those tops, which again are a pain to fit compared to the OEM top, and costs MUCH more. Are there those that want their Boxsters to look like a Cayman? ...of course, but not enough, IMO. For me, I'd never even consider a Zeintop over an OEM aluminum top. If I wanted a Cayman lookalike, I'd just get a Cayman.
  3. Sorry, but I still can't see that top producing any profit. The OEM top is already made of aluminum, there are no fitting issues, you don't have to remove the trunk lid/clamshell to fit, and used ones go for only $1000 now on the market, so how can they possibly sell enough to justify a business model? Zeintops are dead. JMHO.
  4. Common problem. Easy fix. There is a rubber hose that is connected to the washer fluid tank that comes off by itself after time. To access it, turn your steering wheel all the way to the right so that you can access the rear portion of the driver's side wheel well liner. Remove the plastic plug and plastic nut so that you can pull the wheel liner forward, and behind it, you will see the hose and washer fluid tank. Use a small hose clamp or zip tie to secure the hose back onto the nipple of the washer fluid tank, and it'll be fixed for good.
  5. Maybe I'm missing something, but I cannot see any Search function in any of the web pages when I view Renntech on my iPhone browser.
  6. Great! All you need now is a 987/997 style shift knob to make it a perfect match! ;)
  7. Yep, I also run 31 front / 35 or 36 in the rears. I have not had an alignment since owning the car (it's an 01), and still have even wear on my tires. LOL. Steering wheel points perfectly straight as well as the steering itself, so never bothered to get it tinkered with.
  8. Thanks Loren. The TSB section used to work perfectly on my same device in its prior version. Would come in very handy if they could make it work with smart phone browsers because it's a pain to have to lug my laptop into my garage when I need to work on my car. LOL
  9. Ok, here's the weird part- if I view a TSB from a desktop computer, the TSB it pulls up is correct, but if I try to look up a TSB on my iPhone, it pulls up a different TSB. For example, when I try to pull up the 986 TSB on 4407 "Non-OEM Wheels / Bolts", it instead pulls up the PDF for TSB 4440 on 6/00 "Summer Tire and Wheel Summary".
  10. Is it just me, or does anyone else notice that when you pull up a TSB article to look at it, when it downloads the PDF, it pulls up a different TSB than the one you tried to look at?! What happened?
  11. Many thanks for clarifying that Loren. Since I don't have the retaining strips, and Porsche doesn't seem to sell them by themselves, I'll try the tape as well as using the screws/clips to fasten the underside and the screws in the front/rear of the skirt. Hopefully, that'll do the job. Thanks again!
  12. Ok, I read that TSB like 10 times, and I'm still confused... Do those 3 filler pieces or "templates" as they call them stay on, or are they used solely to position the retaining strip, and then you remove them prior to affixing the skirts? Also, my skirts didn't come with the retaining strips.. Can I just use double sided tape instead and all those clips/screws?
  13. Do a search of the 986 TSBs for "aerokit". You will find TSB: 2/98 6315 Installing the Aerokit Front Spoiler, Rear Spoiler and Side Member Panels -- dated Sep 4, 1998 Many thanks Loren!
  14. Does anyone have a how to article that they can point me to for an Aerokit 1 sideskirt installation? I just got a set of these OEM version 1 skirts (seen in the attached pic below), and also have the mounting kit, but there's only a TSB here on Renntech for the Aerokit 2 skirts. My hardware kit came with 6 filler pieces (3 for each side) instead of only 2 filler pieces that the version 2 skirts utilize, and so I'm not sure where those 6 pieces go under the skirts upon installation. Any help would be much appreciated. Thx.
  15. Have they made a more robust turn signal stalk mechanism yet? I'm on my second replacement on my 01, after the darn internal plastic tab broke off, effectively leaving the stalk non-canceling after turns. What a cheap unit they put in there. Valet parking 1 - DL 0  I bet now you have your very own Porsche garage the chances of you breaking it again are zero :) Ha...the first time, yes- my valet at my NYC parking garage snapped the entire stalk off, which necessitated a replacement. The turn signal was still canceling out fine at the time. However, the second replacement was because the turn signal no longer cancelled after turns.

  17. At 58k miles, I had the same problem on my Boxster. When I made hard right turns under power, I felt grinding from the rear axle. Turned out, my motor mount was torn bad enough that it allowed my engine and drivetrain to shift enough to cause the grinding in the axle area during hard turns. After replacing the mount, no more problems. You might also want to check if any rear brake parts are loose.
  18. Ok, thanks. Guess I'll be doing some dissassembly work tonight. :)
  19. Thanks Loren. I did actually see that post when I searched the topic, and I'm sorry if I'm missing something, but that thread looks like it addresses how to remove the sun visor mirror assembly from the visor itself. I have no problems with my mirror assembly being loose or malfunctioning, so I don't see a need to remove the mirror assembly. My problem is that the entire sun visor cannot stay in the up position (meaning, when I flip the visor up towards the roof, it just flops back down about 3 inches). Are you saying that I need to dissassemble my mirror assembly within the visor to get to fix the spring that keeps the sun visor in the up position? Please do a search this has been covered in detail. Sorry if I'm missing something, but I have run multiple searches on this board for this problem prior to posting this question, but from what I've seen, all of them talk about how to replace the illuminated mirror flap part inside the sun visor, and not how to repair the spring in the sun visor itself. My entire sun visor is loose (my vanity mirror works fine), and when I put the sun visor in the up position, it just falls back down about 2 or 3 inches. If you could link me to the archive pages where it covers this, I'd greatly appreciate it. Thanks in advance. http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=1512 http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?s...ost&p=48358

  21. Yesterday, I noticed my passenger side sun visor hanging lower than the driver's side. Flipped it open, and noticed the spring mechanism seemed shot. I'm not talking about the vanity mirror flap, but the entire sun visor itself. It just seems to hang low, and doesn't stay all the way in the up position. Is there a fix to this, or do I need to order a whole new sun visor?
  22. I can't recall what the color of the plug was, so I'm not sure if it is the same one as the one you show, but when I installed my airbag deactivation bar (for the Porsche baby seat), I had to insert a connection into a plug under the passenger seat. Maybe that's what you are looking at. I believe all of the pre-2005 Boxsters had that plug located under the passenger seat.
  23. Your dealer is lying to you. You can buy just the cap. It is part number 5 here in the link provided, and it costs only $5.75. In fact, even if you order a brand new complete stalk set, it still doesn't come with the caps for the two right side stalks. They'd still have to order both the wiper wash cap and cruise control cap separately. Can't believe the stuff some dealers say. Print off the page from the link I showed you, and bring it to the dealer to tell them they are WRONG! :D Order the gloss version for the 2001 model year. The cover you have shown in your picture is matte, and is used for model year 2003 and up. If she keeps snapping them off, buy a couple.
