  1. I had a feeling that the folks at Porsche wouldn't make it easy !

But, I still would like to do this and I'm fairly certain that I could carefully wiggle the wires up through the rubber tube between door and body.... patience is a good thing (or maybe I have too much time on my hands!).

If I were to tap these lights to the interior light, is there adequate power? Don't want to fry fuses, end up with diminished illumination or, worse, melt anything. BTW, how is the interior light switched? I've looked all around both doors and I just don't see any buttons.

    thanks !

  2. I would like to install OEM door mounted courtesy lamps in my '03 Boxster.

Door panel removal is fairly straightforward (I already have instructions), but what about electrical connections? Are the doors pre-wired for the lights? If I have to route the wires to the fuse box, what is the best (and simplest) way to make the connection?

    thanks!

  3. Loren & Tool Pants... many thanks for the quick answer.

Just a follow up question... is the heat exchanger a closed loop system (kind of like an air conditioner, I guess) for which if the coolant is lost it is gone forever. Or is the device recharged using engine coolant??

  4. Last Saturday I took off the engine cover... mostly just to explore. The Heat Exchanger (oil cooler) <part #996 107 025 05> had a layer of "orangeish white" crystaline stuff on it and a connecting hose (about 18" away from the cooler) had also apparently leaked at a twist-on connector to another hose. The "stuff" was all very dry but the hose connection did appear to be slightly moist.

What is this stuff that leaked? Is is corrosive? Is this something that should be checked out by a mechanic under the car's warranty?

Everything else under the "hood" looked just fine...

  5. OK, Porsche recommends 93 octane gasoline for my new Boxster.... a fuel grade that is unavailable in California. I'm sure that the 91 octane is just fine, but what about the other grades, such as 89 or even 87 octane?

Other than "zippier" performance, is there any significant difference from the higher grade to lower? If a lower grade gas is used, could this actually damage the engine? Or... will this cause tsunamis or worlds to collide!

Word of technical wisdom are appreciated

  6. Thanks, I thought it might not be a simple solution. I'll do the "jumper wire" for the additional light.

How about question #2... any thought on this? Maybe this could be done by trading the switch wires at the appropriate relay. What do you think? BTW, has anyone ever mapped out all of the relays on the Boxster? There are lots of them, including four (if I recall correctly) behind a panel in the rear trunk left hand side.

  7. New owner of a '03 Boxster with two questions about the rear fog lamp.

#1 Is it possible to add a second lamp? The right hand rear lamp assembly has a bulb placement for a rear fog and it appears to be wired. I did a continuity check between the left hand side fog and the right hand side "fog lamp position" and the circuit is not complete. Can the right hand side be easily connected or did Porsche cut the wire in an inaccessible location? I realize that I could just bridge the gap with some vampire type wire connects... but I would prefer not to.

#2 Is there a simple way to change the sequence in which the fog lamps are lit? The pull-out switch lights the front fogs first and then the rear. Could this be switched so that the rear fog is lit first?

Probably curious why I want to do this. Well, rear fog lamps are a great way to keep tail-gating SUV's off your tail

    thanks
