  1. Ok, put 700 miles of hard driving (read dragon tail and blue ridge parkway) No failure. Installing three scopes to start monitering what is happening internally, also installed 4 pressure ssnsors and will start datalogging. Ill keep you all up to date.
  2. The one I made is from stainless, thinking for a final production unit I might consider aluminum.

  5. I built a new aos system for my boxster. I will begin testing it tomorrow. This is about the 3rd version in as many weeks. I think this one might have it though. I will report back if all goes well. It really looks unique, and was partially inspired by the motirsports version, but taken to the next level with multiple chambers and multiple vapor seperation points. It is also constructed of stainless steel and serviceable. Time to flog the car...

  7. Ok, I can make that in no time. I will attempt, but I think that I will try the new aos first.
  8. The car never overheats, has no oil in the coolant or visa versa, does not consume any coolant, has no check engine lights, and idles relatively smooth. There have been no metal particles in the oil. Never been in an accident, has good compression accross the board. Car really runs awesome.
  9. The oil level is in the middle. I checked my new j-tube that I replaced at the time of the aos swap, and it was full of oil. The aos diaphram is also completely coated in oil. What else would cause the failure? Excess crank case pressure? The car has absolutely no leaks, I would assume excess crankcase pressure woild cause rms failure, and other leaks elsewhere.
  10. like the first post, I have also been an engineer for a long time. I am currently an engineer for eaton. I am looking at a couple different styles of check valves and the combination of baffles internal to the current aos frame. I am also considering a couple inline aos that are available in the after market. I understand the theory behind the aos and have had cars that I had to design kiys for. I have even looked at pressure activated pumps (i used a pump on my mustang to releive crankcase pressure). I have also wondered what the simple addition of a couple screens would do. I have alot of ideas and much of the equipment to bring them to life. Sorry if my post is a little broken up, I generally reply from my phone.
  11. Well, my replacement AOS is faulty!!! its a shame. I am looking at the design and thinking about makeing a replacement from scratch. I think I can pull it off. We will see.
  12. my problem now is I believe that my new AOS was faulty. I am trying to get ahold of the porsche dealer I purchased it from to get a replacement. It is less than a week old.
  13. Cut the old bellows hose and remove your old AOS, then put a screw clamp on the replacement and put it on. Very simple.
  14. At least it didnt break during a drag launch like my gtr did. That was totally embarassing. And I heard a loud echoing " I told you so" from my wife.
  15. I replaced the oil fill tube, and the j-tube. After work it smoked more than ever on startup. Its really embarasing.
  16. no loose lines no cel or coolant lights. No anything, runs great, just a massive ploom of smoke at the top of second. Felt like it bogged at the shift a little then smoked.
  17. I replaced my aos on friday, car didnt smoke as much on startup, got on it this morning after driving for 45 minutes @ highway speeds, and a Massive cloud of smoke again. Is it just burning some residual oil that could have been in the system, or should I start looking for motors? It still pulls very very strong (for what it is) so I cant imagine that it needs a motor. I am just mildly concerned.
  18. Well, I ordered a new AOS for my 99 boxster on wed, received it today and decided to take a look to see how bad it really is. I will say that it took me at max 15 minutes to remove the old one and replace it with the new one. I didn't need a jack either. I think I will have a great time with this car. Who would be interested in an aftermarket AOS if it was the same price, but was easily serviceable. I have a couple ideas that I will be playing with to see what I can do.
  19. Hello all, My name is andrew, and I am new to this forum. I just purchased a 99 boxster with 51k miles yesterday. I have been searching diligently for the past few months for one that would meet my stringent service history requirements. I had a search within 500 miles of my home in Western NC. I found this one a scant 300 miles away. I am excited to hopefully contribute some automotive knowledge to this community. My history: I have been involved in the automotive industry for all of my adult life. I have worked on many design projects as an indipendant contracter for both private sector and the big name auto companies. I spent many years working with aftermarket companies developing turbo kits for the import scene. I currently work on eliminating reliability issues through design and process analysis. I have been a very active on other forums in the past. Previous notable cars: 1966 Ford f100 (built 460) 1994 Eclipse GSX (highly modified for drag racing) Running mid 11s in the mid-late 90's 1996 Eclipse GSX (ran low 10s on street tires and daily driven) 1995 Mustang GTS ( fully built made 1300whp) 1995 Nissan Skyline GTR ( called the double disco) 1997 240sx with rb26dett swap 1995 BMW 850ci (6speed) 1989 BMW M3 (set up for road race) 1997 318ti with a s52 m3 swap 2001 M3 Dinan modified 2007 toyota FJ cruiser TRD edition 2000 Ferrari 360 (tubi exhaust) 2003 Infiniti G35 supercharged 1991 Sentra SE-R (fully built GTIR swap making mid 400hp) 2001 civic with k24 swap supercharged Thats all that I can remember, It is in no particular order.   20. I am new to this forum. I just purchased a 99 boxster yesterday to be my daily driver. it turned 51k miles on the drive home. I just wanted to comment on engine longevity. I previously owned a 2003 saab 9-3 vector auto. These cars were notorious for not lasting very long. I just sold it with 278k miles to a lucky person. I see alot of similarities between these cars service intervals. The saab called out for oil changes every 20k miles, but I changed the oil every 3k with mobil1 0w40. The transmission was a huge complaint from customers and they were notoriously un-reliable. In the manual it stated that the transmission never needed the fluid changed, I disagree! I changed the fluid in it every 20-30k miles. It was these simple things that allowed me to drive that car for so many reliable miles. I have been hunting for a boxster to use as my daily commuter for some time now, and finally found one that had the service history that I had been searching so diligently for. The previous owner kept meticulous records, and took ridiculously good car of the car. I plan on piling the miles on this vehicle as well. I will be driving roughly 108 miles a day to work. I understand that over changing your fluids can cause some inherent issues so, I plan on analyzing my oil in documented intervals until I find the optimal change point for me. I also am planning on checking all systems for possible quality issues that may be leading to failures. My wife thinks I am strange because I am actually setting up a DFmea for this car and running through known failures, their occurrence rate, and their severity to generate a RPN # and will alert me to which systems may be in the most dire need of attention.
