  1. If the gear box was not exposed to heavy loads or high temps, you are probably fine. I would make the suggestions to re-change the gear box oil again in about 500-1K miles, just to make sure all of the wrong fluid is flushed out of the system. The Pentosin product is a hydraulic fluid, not a high shear lubricant which is what the gear oil is. As long as nothing was galled or bearings overloaded during the mix-up, and all of the Pentosin is flushed out, the gear box should be OK. Thank you for your reply and your recommendation for re-changing the oil. The ambient temperature was around 18 centigrade. During my 100 km drive I used high revs and sequential changes several times, but it wasn't as if I was racing. Would any potential damage show immediately or would this appear after a long time?
  2. A workshop mistake took place yesterday on my 997.2 S, PDK. I had the clutch fluid (Pentosin FFL3) in the PDK Clutch compartment changed last month at six years. On the annual service I asked for the transmission oil in the gear compartment to be changed as well. They put Pentosin FFL3 again instead of the 75W90 Mobil Lube due to a workshop mix-up!!!!! I discovered the mistake by looking at the lubricant part number and the on the invoice but only after I drove for 100 km. The gearbox will be drained and flushed and filled with the proper lubricant. BUT should i worry about premature gear wear because i drove with the wrong fluid in the gear compartment? Your views please will be appreciated!

  4. I've got a 4 page Porsche document I could e-mail to you. Basically, Some options will be made standard and a third radiator on PDK cars. The rest are new colours and cosmetic changes for the steering wheels.
  5. Mine is a 2009 model (manufactured 12/2008) and the sport and sport plus displays light up (left spoke). I was told that the LC display (right spoke) only works on 2010 cars.
  6. I've had it retrofitted last week. It works very well and it is a great improvement most of all because the shape and size of the paddle wheel is more ergonomic than the original. I paid 970 Euro fitted.
  7. Porsche as from this month offer this as a retrofit item from Tequipment. It's a straight swap but you need the PIWIS to activate certain things.
  8. I've been waiting for information on the new model release before deciding what year to purchase. Did you find this info on Porsches website? Low range and locking diffs are expected to be optional (like on the current Mercedes ML). Rumour is that on the normal cars PDK will be used whereas the off-road optioned cars will be fitted with a torque converter automatic.
  9. Most probably faulty MAF sensor. That was the problem on a 986 I used to own.
  10. The telephone module (option 666) works readily with phones with SIM Access Profile (SAP). Such phones are several Nokia and Blackberry models shown on the Porsche web-site. Check them out here: http://www.porsche.com/all/media/pdf/Bluetooth_uk.pdf For other phones to function some change of settings is required using PIWIS and in the case of those phones not all functions are available but still you can make and receive calls using PCM and the MF steering wheel if you got one. No other hardware is required unless you wish to order the wireless handset in order to make calls in privacy avoiding the loudspeaker.
  11. I know someone who has had a MF wheel installed on a 997.1 Turbo. The job was not a straightforward retrofit, it required improvisation on the electrics and was done by an independent workshop. The technician who did it told me it was difficult. I don't think OPC would do it if it's not in the book and the car under warranty.
  12. When I had a MY00 986, it started doing that as the car was getting older. I had a habit then of filling to an amount of money and so the tank was seldom 100% full. Perhaps the floater inside the tank gradually started getting stuck as it was not going above a certain level. After I started filling up to "Full" for a few times, it normalized.
  13. Please don't buy the car without Sport Chrono Plus. The clock is a small sacrifice for what you get in terms of throttle remapping in Sport Mode. Big difference compared to standard mode. In Sport Plus the throttle mapping doesn't change from Sport, only the gear changes in Auto. Also you will find that in many occasions it will be more efficient to use Auto mode rather than Manual and in those cases you will lose the Sport and Sport Plus transmission remapping. I've never used the LC myself because I find it a gimmick. I've used it on the test car but I don't care to use it on my car. The other functions (locks, lights etc) are also nice to have but not so crucial.
  14. If you put the quantity according to the manual it ends up overfilled. Perhaps the oil cannot be 100% drained. I specifically ask them for 7 liters only during an oil and filter change, which is safe, and I top up later accordingly if required.
  15. I was at the workshop of an Independent last week ansd I saw 2 engines from 996 FLs with Intermediate Shaft Failure one of which was X51. So, it's not only MY05. Good thing they do away with this Shaft on the DFI engines. I'm sure though that something else will come up!

  17. My car uses a lot of oil compared to any other car I have owned. I've done 12.000kms now and I need to add oil every week in order to keep the level between min and max. The official line from the dealer is that it will normalize in time as the engine is run in, which I don't see happening. Some other 997.2 owners have reported the same. Any views amongst you? Thanks!
  18. They've read the Fault Codes at the workshop. P0176D: 3rd gear engagement block or gear skip P1990: positive torque intervention not possible. These codes could come up for a number of reasons (hydraulics, transmission etc) but since the car operates well they concluded it was a software/elctronic problem. They will format the PDK control unit and reload the software (new version if available).
  19. I've had my first PDK glitch a few days ago at 11.000kms. As I was going on a dual carriageway at some 80 km/h a message appeared on the OBC "transmission emergency run" with a symbol in white letters. The car felt somewhat different but until I realized what was going on I had to stop at a busy roundabout. As I was stopped I totally lost drive and the gear indication went blank. In the meantime the traffic started moving behind me and I was lucky not to get bumped! I tried to move the lever in Manual and back to Auto with no effect. Then I switched the engine off and on again and the message disappeared and all has been normal since then. I covered some 500kms since then without any problem at all. Anyone has experienced something similar?
  20. The Panamera Turbo PDK will handle the 700Nm! Not enough? Honestly after driving my new car with PDK (my first car without a clutch pedal) I will never go back to manual. It is a win-win situation on all grounds, but make sure you order the Sport Chrono Plus to get all 3 PDK modes instead of just 1.
