  1. The Smart Top is called RemoteKey for the 987. I had the Smart Top on my 986 and came across RemoteKey before I bought my 987 as I wanted some way of one-touch hood without it stopping mid way if you went too slow. As far as dipping rear mirror for reverse is concerned, selecting reverse tilts the passenger mirror. Then according to their manual (www.wilhelmy-it.de): "After leaving reverse gear, the mirror will return back up if one of these conditions is met: a) 10 sec. inactivity or B) forward speed of >5mph is detected." But note that you have to go through a setup procedure first to calibrate the mirror positions. Cheers.
  2. I stumbled across an installation video on the web for applying a 3M protective film to a 987 bumper and thought it looked a good idea. Since then I have convinced myself to apply it to mine before it gets chipped. I know there are installers out there but I am very keen to try this myself, but typically I cannot find the vid now . Has anyone come across it? If so please please please send the link to the site to save me tearing out what little hair I have left :)
  3. I don't give the article any credibility. I was going to buy the mag then realised how misinformed they are about the Boxster. "All that being said, there is no doubt the Boxster - which has been on the market with virtually the same clothes since 1997 (other than a minor freshening in 2005, in which Porsche reclassified the Boxster from its original 986 designation to the 987) is due for a redesign. We believe the new Boxster could be launched as early as 2009 for the 2010 model year. The car should see the first significant changes to its bodywork, though it will remain quite decidedly a Boxster throughout." Well duh.. the 987 was a significant change to the 986 while retaining its appearance to the uninitiated. New body panels, roof, interior, engine, suspension, brakes, wider track are hardly minor freshening! Sounds like the author couldn't be bothered to do the research, so it makes me think their opinion is completely unreliable. BTW I think the "photo" is a computer generated graphic.
  4. I was talking to a Porsche salesman recently who said that special 987 launch editions were introduced late 04 which were highly spec'd and all in arctic silver.
  5. Wow. This sounds too easy!! So are you saying that the new stalk actually plugs into a socket in the steering column to make the plug and play connection? Thanks. I contacted my local OPC who say they can supply the parts for around GBP150, but they have confirmed via Porsche HQ that they are unable to code the CC into the onboard computer. How absurd!! :cursing: Any ideas?
  6. I would get the mod primarily for the single touch hood operation, even when stationary. The mirror tilt and other funtions are a bonus. The controller is on https://www.wilhelmy-it.de/sms/shop/index.p...&jump=rk997 According to the installation manual https://www.wilhelmy-it.de/sms/db/smarttop/.../en.php?mode=1) the door mirror wiring passes through the contoller. The mirror position has to be moved to the tilt position and then back to the normal position in 2 stages as part of the calibration cycle. Let me know what you think. Cheers.
  7. Hi Toejam I didn't realise the top was automatic above 6mph. I will check this out. Thanks. As for ordering a car with everything I want, I am looking for a 2005 Boxster from a dealer, and finding the required options is very difficult. Cruise control is very important to me, but rare, and PCM is even harder to find with CC.
  8. Wow. This sounds too easy!! So are you saying that the new stalk actually plugs into a socket in the steering column to make the plug and play connection? Thanks. How difficult is it to remove the steering wheel and what happens to the air bag?

  10. 986 I installed a modified relay which allows single-touch operation of the hood (up to 19mph) to my 986. This was a simple replacement of a relay (Oh yes, I had the hood changed to a glass window at BAS International as well to get over the Boxster chop). This totally enhanced my Boxster experience. 987 I am about to change to a 987, and have driven quite a few, now. Although the 987 allows the hood to be operated at up to 30mph, I found it very unsafe to operate even at low speed or traffic lights because (i) you are concentrating on keeping your finger on the button, and (ii) it was all to easy for the finger to slip from the switch, which was very distracting. I have seen a mod for the 987 which is a bit more involved than a simple plug in relay, but it does allows the hood to be operated with a single-touch. It also adds other functions such as (i) automatically tilting the passenger side door mirror to view the kirb when reverse gear is selected, (ii) headlight illumination of the driveway for 30 seconds by pressing the key fob and (iii) a single or double beep from the horn when you lock / unlock the car. All these functions are programmable. I will be undertaking this mod as soon as I find the right 987, but I wondered if anyone had any experience of it?
  11. Thank. I am looking for a 2005 987. Do you know if there is a step-by-step guide / Technical bulletin available for this? My local UK OPC says it cant be done. I just want to be sure of what is involved (ie where to make connections etc) before tackling the project. You mention the short electric cable for early models, where does the connect, and what about later models? Thanks.
  12. Anyone know if it is possible to retrofit CC to a 987. I am changing from a 986 to a 987 and am having difficulty finding one with CC. My local OPC says it is not possible, but I have seen the mod for the 986, so I thought it must be possible for a 987, especially as it is an optional extra from new. Part list required would be appreciated. Thanks in advance, Brian.
