I am battling an issue with my litronic headlights on my 2000 Boxster S. Both headlights light up correctly when I switch the lights on, but the right headlight goes out after about 30 seconds. When I switch the lights off and on again, it immediately goes on and after 30 seconds it goes out again. This is what I have done so far (in reverse order): * checked the ground point and put connector lube on * opened the headlight connector in the frunk and put connector lube in all holes * put connector lube on red connector to the low beam bulb * put connector lube on both connectors behind the headlight * replaced both bulbs * replaced the ballast * replaced the igniter * replaced the headlight switch I considered that this might be a relay issue, but but relay position F28, as shown in the diagram, is empty on my relay board no headlight relays on my car. Guys I am out of ideas. Any suggestions?
Hi guys, I was driving home late last night, when I hit the high-beams on a dark road to get a better look at the curve coming up. Much to my shock, ALL lights went out. There I was, doing 80 in a turn on a dark road with NO LIGHTS. I frantically hit low and high beams and NOTHING. Turned the headlight switch on and off. Still nothing. When I pulled back on the high beams, it lit up. I drove like that for a little while before it occurred to me to hit the driving lights. They worked. When I got home, I started research and this seems to be a common thing (see links below). Most folks report hitting the high beams (push forward) and then...total darkness. Most folks just replace both bulbs and they are good to go. However, I want to know if this is a failure on the selector switch. Anybody else isolate the high-beam stalk as an issue?
I have the typical 2nd gear synchro issue on my 2000 Boxster S. When I bought it, I (regrettably) did not do a PII and overpaid too. Yes, I can analyze the things I SHOULD have done, but I am trying to look forward on how to get us much enjoyment out of my purchase. I have already done some work on it myself (water pump, radiator, short circuit repair, transmission fluid, oil and filter) which chewed further into the $$$. The only nagging issue that I am now aware of is this 2nd gear grinding. I have figured out that I can double-clutch (up) into 2nd without the grind. However, that doesn't make for sporty shifting (at least not how I double-clutch) and also doesn't work well for shifting down for a turn. Is it possible to do a DIY repair on the 2nd gear synchro? Are there step-by-step details available on how to do it? I have seen instructions for other transmissions (below), but not for the Boxster 6-speed. Thanks for the help guys. I got the original part and installed it on both sides. Boy, those things are expensive. I wonder if they carve them out of diamonds. It was frustrating not being able to drive with the nice weather we have been having, but I learnt quite a bit in the process
Ok, I found the problem. After A LOT of troubleshooting, I found that the front park light bulb had burnt out and fused against the socket. That caused the short. The bulb that I pulled out of there looks strange though. I have not seen it before. Ok, I just went after a fresh batch of fuses and popped one in. When I turned the light switch to Park, the right side marker fuse (A3) popped again. I still had the side marker and the tail light circuit off. Does this mean that the switch is suspect? Or could it still be somewhere in the harness?
I removed the side marker and the tail light circuit board tonight and put in a fresh fuse in. When I switched the light switch on and POP. %%$&* !!!!!!! So, I am assuming that the short is somewhere in the wiring harness.
I noticed that my right side tail light was out. I tested the light bulb by switching it from side to side and the bulb turned out to be ok. I finally tracked it down to the right side marker fuse (I think position A3). Trouble is, every time I replace it, immediately blows immediately. I am not a sparkie by any stretch of the imagination. Where (and how) do I start looking?
I recently bought a 2000 Boxster S. When I went to look at it, I had sensory overload. I immediately fell in love with the thought of having a Porsche. When I test drove it, it was crisp and strong. However, after I bought it and the adrenaline settled down, I noticed a few issues: It GRINDS into second gear when the car is cold and only rarely when it is at operating temperature. The left headlight bracket is missing. While driving, there is a strange noise in the front right wheel (almost like a wheel out of balance/out of round). I looked up the underlying causes of these issues and I am SICK TO MY STOMACH. Seems that I bought me a huge hole in my pocket. I replaced the transmission fluid, but the 2nd gear shifting issue still remains. From what I can see on the web, it seems that a new transmission or rebuild are my only options. Wow $3500!!!! When I grab the left front wheel and move it, there is a definite wiggle. Seems like I need either a new front end or at least an overhaul. Control arms & Tie-Rods = $1000!!!! I know you guys are probably sick of hearing about the 2nd gear issue. Is there anything else that I can try before the tranny rebuild? BTW, I am a newbie here. Included is a picture of my (sick) baby.
