  1. Please help. My 99 996 with factory radio has poor reception. When I take the radio out, unplug the antenna lead and install a piece of copper wire, the reception is very good. Perhaps it is a bad antenna booster? Windshield is original. Where is the antenna booster located, how hard is it to get to, and what is the approximate cost? Appreciate any help very much. Tim in Bridgewater, NJ
  2. Loren, Thanks for the help. My Secondary Air Pump just stopped working in my 99 996 67k miles. I followed your advice to check it out. Put 12 V and ground directly to the pump leads---was OK. Then tested relay (the one linked to the 40 amp fuse behind the left rear seat).--was OK. The fuse was OK. Put 12 V to post 30 on the relay--fan turned on. I think I had a bad fuse or poor connection on the fuse B4 in the panel near the driver's left leg. I tested OK with an ohmmeter, but would not work in the car. Changed fuse--all is well. I'll be sure to donate. Tim Sandford
  3. My 99 996 visor broke also. The plastic that holds the spring clip is very poorly designed and it broke. A couple of small, well placed pieces of velcro did the trick.
  4. Thanks, I wondered if the stuff worked.
  5. :clapping: Success! Follow up to my own question. The flat spot at 5800+ was a bad MAF sensor. :clapping:
  6. I had the exact same problem with the poorly designed plastic slot breaking in the visor mirror flap. How could such wonderful engineers come up with such a Mickey Mouse Design?????? The two small pieces of velcro did the trick.
  7. My MAF is bad. I get a drop off in power at about 5800RPM on up. I swapped it with my kind neighbor's 996 C2 MAF and all was well. I've been told that the part has been revised about three times in an attempt to make it more reliable? Can anyone verify? Is there a way I can tell the latest revision?
  8. I have a flat section of my accelleration curve in my 1999 996 at approximately 5800 RPM and up. An experienced factory mechanic said there is a software upgrade to fix this. Anyone had this done? Is there a TSB? I tried changing the fuel filter and plugs. Help please..........
  9. Hello, I just bought Tequipment cup holders at the Porsche Dealer for my 1999 996. They are about $33 and work fine. They clip into the left and right dash air vents. The cup holder you mention, I think, I bought from Griots. I've also seen them on Ebay for less $. I rivited a bent sheetmetal bracket in the back which hook into the center dash vent of my Mercedes and my 944. ;)
  10. :o Can someone help me with my 1999 996 (58k miles) engine malfunction? The engine idles and runs smooth however under hard acceleration, the power drops off somewhat above 5000 RPM. Still smooth, just less power. Tried to fix by changing plugs and cleaning 02 sensors. No efffect. Recently got check engine light. Scanned and got P1123 and P1125. Cleared and have not returned. Could the flat spot be a bad 02 sensor? Coil? MAF? Thanks, Tim Sandford
