  1. Interesting. I've never heard of these ramps cracking. Unless it was a different brand. Mine are made by a company called Rhino Ramps I believe.
  2. I have a set of ramps like that I've been using for years. The Boxster is up on them right now getting an oil change. :) They have a nice little indention so you know when the car is up to the flat surface and can't easily roll off. I'll typically get a car up there using the brake and gas simultaneously and letting off the brake to make the car move. Once I feel it get above the hump, I shift into neutral and let the car settle. Apply parking brake and get to work!
  3. One of my center vents broke. Not sure if this was one they replaced before, but it had a small piece of metal wire come out along with the fang.
  4. There's a guy locally here that's done that with all the bays in his garage. I've missed the club tech days at his house or I'd have pictures. :(
  5. I originally thought it was a large fox or a small wolf. But a person at the local Mercedes/Nissan collision shop (where I'll be taking the car), said he could tell from the hair stuck in between the rim and the tire that it was a coyote. I guess I must have just missed the Road Runner because Wyle E. Coyote was running pretty fast. I went to the local Porsche club's meeting and asked a few people. I had a lot of recommendations from them that the local Mercedes body shop was the only place in town. And after I went there and talked to the staff, and saw their attention to detail, I think I should be satisfied. And I guess some good comes out of this. I'll be able to delete the front license plate and add the RS60 front lip spoilers. :jump:
  6. Here's the damage. Quoted out at $2500: http://huntsvillecarscene.smugmug.com/gallery/5919917_ubk6F Now, my question is, anyone have any experience with GOOD collision repair in the southeast US? I know everyone at the local Porsche dealership, and know they can't really do the collision job justice. My insurance company told me I can take my car anywhere. Any feedback appreciated.
  7. Just got off the phone with Sunset and their price on the parts is much cheaper. Also, there seems to be an adhesive/mounting kit that's also needed, part# P987.505.989.00.
  8. :renntech: I hate to bump an old thread, but thank you very much! I've been looking all over for these part numbers. If you have pictures on your black 987, I'd love to see them. I have a black 987 too that will be needing a replacement front cover due to a large fox... :( Pics of the damage: http://huntsvillecarscene.smugmug.com/gallery/5919917_ubk6F
  9. I too have faced this problem. I purchased my 05 Boxster and the dealer in CA told me about the vent issue after I already flew coast-to-coast to see the car. :cursing: My friend is the lead technician at our local Porsche dealership and he has informed me that the dash is not required to be disassembled. That was my fear as well, and I was willing to live with it if the local techs were numbnuts like every other tech in this town. Thankfully, there's some of the best in the city. :clapping:
  10. We had one of these too. Here's my write up and pictures for Huntsville Car Scene: http://www.huntsvillecarscene.com/calendar...06-6-22&c=1
  11. This is interesting. I know both techs at our local Porsche dealer. They did this same install on a new 997 Turbo last week at the customer's request.
  12. How are they illuminated? Is it an actual light or is it some sort glow-in-the-dark system?
  13. How hard was the install on these? I'm thinking of getting a set.
  14. There's not much more I can do on the break-in procedure. The damage is done. But I'm always very gentile to my cars until they are properly warmed up and even then it is very infrequent that I drive any of them hard. I just passed 148k miles on my 1996 Galant. If you want something sleek in a dark way, Black. But if you want the same effect in a brighter or more metallic way, Silver.
  15. Sure: 18" Boxster S Wheels Tiptronic S Heated Front Seats Colored Wheel Crest Bose + Windstop Floor Mats Interior Color Power Seat and Memory Pkg I would go ahead and get the 18" wheels. The 17" do look they would be underrated for the sportiness of the car. The tiptronic system is good, but I find the normal automatic setting is surprisingly smart. I rarely do use the tiptronic. The only thing I have to complain about is changing gears while cornering a lot. You have to hunt to find a button on a spinning steering wheel. I don't think paddles would've been any better. RMS = Real Main Seal. A seal that is between the engine and transmission. I spoke to one of the local dealer techs for quite a while on the subject and why there can be a problem. Apparently the engine is made up of two different alloys that heat expand at different temperatures. Once they have been heat cycled correctly (like in the break-in period), they will heat expand together better. But if they are not heat cycled correctly during the break-in, there will be some variance and the seal will not be able to seal perfectly. Mine is actually black with black top and interior. All black. But with the silver trimmings it's quite nice...I'm actually missing it right now. I think I'll go grab it for a spin today. :jump:
  16. This may not be of any use since this thread is a bit old, but my 2005 Boxster came with the Michilin sp2. The car was used, but only had 1700 miles. When I looked at the tires, the outside tread looked like it was gone, while the inside and center treads were nice and deep. For a second, I thought there was a tire wear issue. But I checked all 4 of my tires and they are all like this. I don't think it's a problem, but actually part of the tire design with varying tread depths across the tire.
  17. I found this thread while looking for something else and it sparked my curiousity. What was the brake system that was installed? It looks quite nice. :notworthy:
  18. Pronouns are your friend...unless they can make something sound like it was not intended!
  19. I'd say it all depends on how worn the pads really are. Most warning systems come on when the pads have reached their wear limit, but that varies. From my experience with all of my cars except my Boxster, I'd say a 20mi commute to work or two won't hurt, but don't expect 100mi out of it. Good luck on the work and let us all know how it went!
  20. Now that is tall. There's a couple of bike owners I know that are around that height. Nothing like looking almost straight up when talking to them. :D But I bet getting pulled over is interesting. "I've grown a bit taller since I got my license."
  21. Since we're on the topic of approved oils, what others besides the Mobile 1 0-40w meet the standard? I'm sure there's a link to a list here somewhere, but I can't find it. :(
  22. 2005 Boxster S burns about 1/2 quart per roughly 2000 miles. It is my "high speed grocery getter"; it is never driven lightly. Not sure if this is "normal" consumption, but something to compare against I suppose. haha...where do you put the groceries? Thank you for your reply. Yep, I'm just trying to compare with others' usage. I'm sure the official figure is probably next to nothing, but with an RMS problem already brewing at <4k miles, I'm sure my car isn't perfect. Maybe I got one built on Friday. :(
  23. There's a really good picture of the exact area in this link: http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?a...ype=post&id=262 It came from this thread: http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=15
