  1. Can the PSM parameters (specifically slip angle) be changed by a PS2 tester. Can anyone confirm this?

    I don't think so. I've only seen them re-calibrate the steering angle sensor (after alignment) and test the other sensors to see if they are in range. Since none of the 4WD cars are allowed in professional (American Le Mans Series) racing I doubt Porsche MotorSport has anything either. Maybe the off-road and rally guys have something but I have never heard of it.

    Hey Loren, I thought the steering angel sensor was related to the slip angle? This is why I thought the recalibrating of the steering angle sensor changes the system's perception of your slip angle. If I'm not mistaken, I got this from RC at Rennteam which is why I had it done to my car after putting on spacers and larger rear tires.

  2. just got it installed (thx akkurat) and the the ol' 996 feels really zippy.  i think it'll get even better after the computer relearns my driving habits :D 

    like everyone else says there are NO drivablility issues.  i also got an uprated clutch and still drives like stock.  pedal action is actually lighter now, my old clutch was at the rivets :eek:

    like everone says there's a rattle at idle with the clutch is disengaged BUT no one ever mentioned the much increased gear noise while driving hard.  when accelerating, there is gear noise, not too bad, but the first time heel/toeing into a corner and with heavy compression/engine breaking the gear noise scared the bejezzuz out of me!  the vibrations/noise is transmitted up throught the transmission tunnel, through the shifters cable all the way up to the shift knob.

    so right now,  i am not sure if it is a worth while upgrade in performance, downgrade in comfort.  i will be getting some dynamat and applying it to the underside of the center console.  if this appears to have any effect then i'll apply more under the carpet.

    interesting thing,  when the car is cold there is no gear noise but once the car warms up to operating temps the noises come back.  can i run a heavier weight transmission oil to counteract the noise?

    does anyone have any tricks to lessen the noise?

    when i had the lightweight flywheel (and stronger clutch) in my 996, the chatter was pretty much only at idle and only with the clutch out. my cgt makes the same chatter from idle to appx 2k. once you get used to it, it's no big deal. but, i'm very surprised your 996 is making the chatter off idle.

  4. tirerack only has tires listed for the 04 and only has pirellis listed. i wonder if these are really ok vs. the michelin pilots that came on my 05:

    thanks loren. from the diagram, #22 looks like it is treated as one piece for replacement rather than being able to just replace the non-upholstered portion which contains the latching mechanism. and, dealer says the part numbers are not in the system. therefore they'll have to order a new glove box door in ascot. i hope that doesn't take too long since i have no glove until and it looks pretty cheesy with the door off.

  6. have got a 996 with H&R coilovers and gt3 adjustable sways (installed about 6k miles and 1 1/2 years ago). not too long ago i noticed on the highway that when i let off the gas the steering wheel rotated and the car pulled a little and then straightened out. this happens any time i have at least 3k rpm and either give it gas or let off the gas (iow, anytime i transfer weight front to rear or rear to front) - and when i let of the gas to push in the clutch when changing gears, etc. i took it to the shop to have it checked out since the last time i experienced something like this my rear tierod bolt fell off at 70 mph on the highway shortly after (different car) resulting in a totaled car and a lucky me to escape scratchless. anyway, they said i had a bad tire because when it moved it to the other side it pulled to the other side when transfering the weight. this was a couple weeks ago and i hadn't gotten around to changing it. but, i was just tonight wondering how a bad tire could cause an instant reaction to transer. how does a directional push work in relation to a bad tire?
