  1. I was going to order a new part today, although it appears to be working fine by sight. The plunger functions, that is why I was curious if there was a test I could perform to try and confirm it was faulty. I find it so weird that there is no clutch ignition switch on the car, but like I said I just can't get the cruise control to work at all.
  2. Well I guess I'm back to the red switch then being the problem..
  3. Pelican is the best. This was the exact photo I was going off of when I was looking for it. I was thinking the same thing, but I looked for it forever and there is nothing there, no switch. My car is a grey market car so maybe the european ones didn't come with it? I thought maybe it was from the moron previous owner removing it, but I am not seeing the wires for it either?
  4. Been dealing with this for awhile, and just wanted some thoughts. Cruise control on the 01' 996tt doesn't turn on at all. Wont set the speed and won't light up the light on the dash. I am thinking that the culprit may be the red plastic clutch pedal switch with the plunger on it. The reason is because I am able to start the car without depressing the clutch. Before I buy a new one, just wanted to get a consensus from you guys, and or if you knew a way to test the switch first? Also I read that there are two switches for the clutch, but I couldn't seem to locate the "grey" colored one I read about?? Thanks for any help.
  5. here is one from vivid. http://www.vividracing.com/catalog/-p-45758.html
  6. I had the same issue. The pump is actually a pretty simple design, just pushes a rod through this plastic type block inside the metal housing unit which pumps the fluid into the Rams and raises the spoiler. The block often times can break which will cause the pump to sound like it is working, but the rod is just pushing through the broken plastic block with no resistance. If the pump sounds like it is actuating when you hit the button to raise the spoiler, I would say that the issue might well be inside the pump. Especially if you don't really have any fluid leaking from the hydraulic lines that connect to the Rams that raise the spoiler. If it is the switches, its pretty cheap. If its the pump, I would say either get one used from a salvage dealer or eBay, or you can try to take it to a local hydraulic shop to see if they can help you repair it. Good luck!
  7. I had dunlop sportmaxx on mine and they were total garbage. they were totally bald in like 4k. Now have the Continental extreme contact and they are much better. Actually got the same set on my BMW suv and I have been pretty happy with them. Hope this helps.
  8. anyone had any luck with this at all...I am in need of some for my 996 turbo?
  9. ever get this resolved? I also have a cruise conrol that doesnt work.
  10. I did actually replaced the MAF with the 124 oem one, and it does drive much better; however I have not cured the other problems of the cruise control not working at all, no lights no engagement nothing, and also the PSM/ABS Light that comes on after driving for awhile. Not sure what to do for either of these, any suggestions would be helpful thanks!
  11. I have ordered the 996-606-124-00 Bosche replacement MAF. In case anyone is interested, Porsche was charging $685, I ordered mine from autohausaz and it was $207. I will keep you updated if this fixes the problem. I would definitely recommend no one gets a kn or bmc filter for their 996tt though.
  12. I am having a few issues with my 2001 turbo. The problem is undoubtedly the previous owner, but besides that, I have some other issues. The car is throwing a PSM/ABS light after driving for anywhere over like 15 minutes or so. When I got the car it had a BMC filter, so I suspected the MAF may be the issue from the oil on the filter or just dirt. So I pulled the BMC and replaced it with porsche paper ( the car now consistently pulls 1.0+ bar ) and then pulled the MAF and cleaned it thoroughly. After cleaning the MAF, I drove it and the difference was unreal, perfectly smooth shifting, no more strange increased RPM's at idle, no more surging under load, random smoke puffs at startup, or rougher shifting. It felt like a different vehicle all together, but after driving for about 15 minutes, the feeling started to go away back to the earlier symptoms and then the PSM/ABS lights came on again. I tried to run the lights but they dont register as CEL's so I get no code from just a normal OBDII reader. I pulled the bosche MAF again and the part number is the newest 125 one. From what I know the 2001 turbos started with the 123 part number, had problems and switched to the 124 part# mid year, and ultimately to the 125 because the 124's were still succeptible to dirt sensitivity and malfunctions like the 123's were. I also know that the 125 requires some $1500 upgrades to the ECU to work properly with the car. My question is how I can determine if the ugrade has been done? also if the veterans here agree with my assumption that the MAF is in fact the correct diagnosis, or just help in general. Thanks a lot guys!
  13. Look at the common problems area section forr 996tt. This will give you a good place to start to look for things on the vehicle that could be wrong. I have upgraded rims when I bought mine too, check to make sure it has proper clearance all the way around the wheels. I have large wheels and very wide tires, as well as Bilstein pss9's and they rub, so much so that it has caused a blowout on the highway. Also make sure the camber is good, because if not, this will cause uneven wear on those lo pro's and you will dump a ton of money into tires every time you turn around. Average low profile tires last 15k or less, and with super negative camber its more like 5k. hope this helps:)
  14. I also have a problem with mine, the pump is out, can hear the motor going but no activation of the pump. You find any fix yet?
  15. In may I purchased an arctic silver 2001 996tt, I have just this weekend done a MAF cleaning on it, which btw was an unbelievable difference in driveability!! Thanks for the post! It literally felt like a new car, and I believe it fixed the PSM/ABS cel I was getting. I have a couple other issues that I need to tackle now. -The first is that when I first got the car the wiper fluid sprayers worked, ran out of fluid, then when I refilled them only the headlight sprayer works, not the windshield one?! I cant figure it out. -The next is that I cant get anything from the cruise control lever, I cant get the light to light up or cruise to activate or anything. Also I dont know that it really matters but I cant really feel any pressure from the button on the lever itself either, if that makes any sense, it just doesnt feel like the lever button on the other side. -Lastly my hydrolic pump for my wing seems to have gone out, and there is a tiny bit of leakage from the driver side wing at the tube cnnection to the bottom. Please help, I literally have saved my whole life for this car and I cant afford to get it fixed at the dealership. Thanks soo much in advance for any help. -J
