i know on my audi, the ecu cuts the air intake a bit until the engine is up to temperature, so for awhile it's running rich and very rough, when my boxster did that this morning I just assumed it was the same thing

You can't see any of the exhaust system by opening the engine compartment anyway. Gotta get under the car. Probably the easiest way to tell what is original is by the discoloration of the metal.
figured as much, now to buy some low profile ramps
that's one thing I like about my allroad, if i need to get under it i put it on level 4...

so all I can see today is the tips, SuperSprint Magnums, I know the name well, though on this car I don't know how to tell what I've got exactly... a catback on a front engine car is easy to see, on this I'm so green I make Kermit jealous
I know it's more than tips because it's not the stock sound, I just can't tell if it's more than mufflers... oh, I haven't opened the engine compartment yet, it's been pouring all day and my garage isn't lit well enough to work indoors yet (that'll change this weekend)

I pick it up Monday!
:jump:
they couldn't prep the title today :(
but that's ok, now I can clean out my garage for it :)

The only reason to go with anything else would be if you buy used tires. I purchased Dunlop WinterSport M2s on 17" Mille Miglia cups used for $600-$800 2 years ago. They still have lots of tread after 3 winters(2 mine). I usually see used sets advertised for between $700-$1000 this time of year.
well that's a better answer than I could have hoped for :)

TireRack has a set of Mille Miglia Cup1's and either Dunlop M3's or Blizzak LM-25's for about $1600 delivered
I've got the M3's on my Audi and I love them for both dry and snow performance (for winter tires of course) there's also a handful of local shops I could go to (www.directire.com) which have a wider variety available though higher cost.
is there any reason I shouldn't go with these wheels and the M3's?
thanks,
Tom

Ever consider a 996? Many cabs have hardtop or you can get a a coupe.
986S is a nice car too. With snow tires, PSM is nice but not mandatory. Litronic is great. If you do get one without a warranty, make sure the dealer fixes any rattle or oil leak before you buy it. Low mileage cars are prone to have little things that add up to $$$ which weren't addressed.
sure I've considered them, just can't justify the price difference for now, decided to skip those non-certified ones and expand our search past just the local dealers now, instead of buying this week I'm just hoping it's this month now :)
-
turns out neither have PSM, and I've just found two more for sale nearby with PSM and the Litronics, though not certified...
going to schedule a test drive on those for this week since they're about the same price and well... it's November and we just had our first frost so I'd expect the prices to drop a little more soon :)
-
My suggestion is that if at all possible buy both. ;)
hah, his and hers would be nice :)
I did look for tire chunks in the wheel wells and saw none, checked the brakes to see how much of the pads were left, stuff like that and it didn't look to bad... having lost my gamble on a previous used car I get a little paranoid :)
so no concerns with a little bit of snow? that's actually my biggest worry
-
so my wife and I are in need of a second car again, we haven't needed one since we both took the same commuter trains to and from work... shortly that won't be the case
so, for the 2nd car we've all but put money down on a 2002 986S (US, LHD, 6 speed) of which there are a pair of, one with 8k one with 9k miles, one black and one lapis blue but otherwise identical at the dealer, both certified, both immaculate and before we pulled the trigger I figured I'd ask you owners a question or 2 :)
is there any easy way to tell if they were tracked? judging by how few miles there are I have to guess they were either track cars or just never used
we live in the Boston Massachusetts area so how horrible and idea is it to consider driving one with a little snow on the ground? Our 1st car is an Audi allroad so any more than a little snow and that would be used since it's a tank. Obviously I'd put snow tires and wheels on it
before I took ownership of it would there be anything I should demand get inspected or replaced?
oh, and of course, are there any other questions I should ask?
thanks a ton,
Tom
Windshield Crack Repair
in 986 Series (Boxster, Boxster S)
Posted
not on my 986 but on my A4...
if it's in your direct line of site, I'd take a bat to the windsheild and have it replaced... assuming you have glass coverage, the repairs can be very good and if it's not in your direct line of site you probably won't notice it if it's done by a skilled person... however, if it's in front of your face you'll see it no matter what and it'll bug the hell out of you
