  1. I have a 2001 base Boxster that has the original outside winshield trim which has been coming out of the space beween the windshield frame & glass.

I bought the replacement which is now a 2 piece arrangement & the replacement metal frame seems to be installed with the glass out of the car.

Can anyone recommend a reliable glass shop in the Roseville, CA area to do this?

My other dilemna is I picked up a rock chip a few weeks ago & I'm thinking a shop will want to sell me a new windshield since they might break the glass removing or installing the trim pieces.

  2. OK, I got the AOS changed (not all that bad of a job) & cleaned and as much of the oil out as I could.

Questions I have so far are:

    1. Should I run a can of Techron through to clean the remaining oil film in the intakes?

    2. Would a failing AOS trigger the P0420 & P0430 codes?

    3. Would the car sitting on jack stands for a few days on the front only cause this?

  3. From the Help section...

"To start, press Click to Attach Files. A box will appear for you to select the file or files on your computer that you want to attach. Select the file or files you want to upload. You can select more than one file at a time by holding Ctrl (on Windows) or Command (on Mac) and click on the files.Once you have selected your files and clicked "Open", they will begin uploading. If there are any errors uploading the files, you will receive an error message, otherwise, you will see the attachments appear."

DOH!! OK here are the pics. Started taking the AOS out, figured since I have one on the shelf I might as well change it. Only issue so far is the pipe the the left side of the engine is being a bear to get released from the AOS & there seems to be a electrical connector bracket preventing the last 1/4" of removal. I'm gonna get some rest & tackle it again in the morning.

  4. It was hard to tell in the dark what color, I will check it tomorrow but it smelled more petroleum than coolant in nature. It could be oil, when I replaced the starter a few months ago I noted a bit of oil in the TB & intake pipes. I have also noticed the coolant going a bit low in the tank, but again this smelled more petroleum than a coolant smell.

  5. Hi guys,

I did a quick search & couldn't find anything on this specifically. My '01 Boxster started fine today but started smoking out of the tailpipe. I unscrewed the oil cap at idle & it came off easy with barely any change in idle. I did pull a P0420 & P0430 a few days ago.

Any thoughts or suggestions would be helpful.

  6. 1) Clean out your front air intakes- may need to remove your bumper (Did this about 2 months ago)

    2) Check the part number on your blue coolant cap. May want to purchase a new one. (New one with the 04 suffix about 2 months ago)

    3) Look for any coolant in your rear trunk. Look under the carpet. (Looked last night, it all looked dry)

    4) Any noises with your water pump? May want to replace your water pump soon. And Serpt. Belt, thermostat, and do a coolant flush. Have you done any of this maintenance yet during your ownership? (No noises I can tell at this point. I was hoping to change the pump, Tstat & coolant in a few months when I install the center radiator. Serp belt was replaced in February, about 7k miles ago.)

I will keep a close eye on it & check on the belt & pulleys, see where that takes me.

    Thanks

  7. Hi,

I noticed my '01 base ran a little high on the temp gauge today, on the right side of the 180 mark but the outside temp was in the mid to upper 70's.

After I let it sit for a couple of hours I opened the coolant cap to check & it was full of coolant but a few bubbles came up from the bottom of the tank.

Is this anything to be concerned about? Anything else I should check?

  8. Does this apply to Mobil1? the list I checked says 10W40 is approved for warmer climates (i'm in Sacramento area)

I am going by Porsche's TSB "Overview of approved Porsche A40 engine oils (01/11)" - published May 9, 2011.

    http://www.renntech....download&id=357

And there are no 10W oils of any brand on the list.

Shouild I be concerned? I just changed my oil. Or just switch to 5W40 on my next oil change?
