TDC for a given bank will have a larger "half-moon" on the crankcase side and smaller on the valve cover side.

Sorry for the typo

You will not be able to turn the rear wheels with the parking brake on. The drive shaft should rotate when you rotate your rear wheels.
-
Did you try turning the rear wheels?

LOL, you are right sorry for the mistake. The door lock mechanism was another repair I had to make. I was able to get my window regulator rebuilt for $180 from a service listed on eBay.

Where did you get them?

I bought the tool for $140 on Amazon. It's called Hub grappler puller. You will also have to get a hub puller set which sells around $100. It will more then pay for itself because the dealer or auto shop will charge you much more.

It is attached to the side of the vent valve.Where would it be? (It does not look familiar). I open the fuel cap, look in, I see a metal disk with a hole covered with a flap on a spring. Not much else.
When I fill it with a funnel and a gas can, it fills fine (albeit slowly).
Thanks.

7 hours ago, johnmh said:I know this has been covered, but all the posts seem to start with a direction to 'read the posts', which is less than helpful.
I have the apparently common problem whereby I need to use a teaspoon when I fill my '01 996, or it will petulantly spit its breakfast all over my shoes.
The car has done this since I brought it back to life last fall. I have replaced the fuel line vent valve, checked the mythical E6 fuse (not sure what it does or what it powers, but mine seems the picture of health). I cleaned a ground spade connector which connects to the alloy bracket which secures the fuel line vent valve to the fuller neck. I have also pulled the battery and tank cover plate (when I installed a new fuel pump earlier this week), all the hoses seem good (no mice) and properly connected with a 'click'. From what I can tell, the fuel tank vents through a small diameter hose which connects to the vent valve via a canister. It appears that the air displaced by incoming fuel has nowhere to go; something in this Rube Goldberg Porsche design has gone awry, or never worked from inception.
Apparently there is a factory bulletin on this issue? Is there a number / date for it, or is there an online source for these?
The fuel line vent valve is a purely mechanical thing? It seems to have no place to plug any wire in to it, so I am not sure how it decides to open or close.
Thanks to all for any insight which you can share.Check to see if the Reed switch is in place. It is a sensor that is activated when a gas station fuel pump nozzle is inserted in the filler neck.

I was able to find one on eBay.I have a similar issue with the passenger door. Seems to only happen when it's hot (Seattle hot, over 70). The window does not move at all and the red light is continually on for the door lock switch on the dash.
Seems weird that it's only when it's warm. Window goes up and down. I've re-trained the window stops but it doesn't help. I'm thinking it's the door lock actuator. Ideas? Toddmac12, where did you get the good used part for $60?

The micro switches that control the door drop are connected to the door lock actuator. I was able to find a used actuator for $60.

I had the same problem with my window. I tried replacing the micro switch, but I finally fixed it by replacing the door lock actuator. I found a good used part. No more problems.Driver side window does not drop when opening the door. I can hear the mechanism work when I slowly open the handles but it is not dropping the window. The window goes up and down just fine in regular operation. I've tried "retraining" the windows but no luck. Any ideas? Regulator issue?Sent from my Pixel XL using Tapatalk

Both small half moons on either side face the valve cover.
