  1. Good Day everyone, Mr. Jones: The thing is that here in Miami there's only one Porsche dealer that I know of and it is The Collection. ( I'm three to five minutes away) The other one would be over in the Fort Lauderdale area " Champion Porsche" around fifteen or twenty miles from us! Don't get me wrong, they have been very patient and friendly every time I've gone there specially the Parts Dept. guys; However I have noticed (and don't like it) that the guys in the bay area receiving your car drive away in them like getting out of the pits area in a Nascar race! I'm by no means an old timer. ( in my 30's) I obviously know what it feels like to seat behind the wheel of such a fine car but, not all of us buy this type of cars to race them or simply go fast in them, it is the legendary history, the auto satisfaction, blah, blah, you guys know what I mean. I feel they don't need to be mistreated either, that's all. As far as The Collection, I"ll continue to visit but as I wrote in my previous post I"ll always expect the very best service and attitude from them. Let's hope they can live up to our expectations!!
  2. Hello Guys I live in Miami as well, and my "The Collection experience" was not too sweet either!! About two years ago, I had bought my 2001 996 cabrio with eight thousand miles on it.(beleive me guys the car is brand new) I took it to The Collection wanting a Detailing job on the car (shampoo, wax, etc.) thinking it would be the most appropiate place to take my car. Long story short, it took them over a week to return my car aaaaand, the canvas top was ripped. They were very helpful and replaced my top, however until today every time I wash it, I still find metric screws from the top mechanism in my carpet, under the seats etc. I find myself screwing them back up. The top, well it is ok! Nothing like the original install. What can I say, I would of had expected a more dedicated service from the very begining, not your typical Ford (no ofence) service like experince!
  3. Hi Graham, All I remember (this was almost 2 years ago) is that the cables ran from side to side underneath the canvas making it snug. Hopefully somebody else with more experience will see your post in the forum and reply, before you endup in the dealer. What I did not tell you last night is that the reason for my top going bad it is because I had taken my car for a SIMPLE detailing job. (Porsche Dealer in Coral Gables, Florida). After 4 days, they call telling me that my car was ready. When I went to pick it up, somebody had ripped my canvas top. The manager appologized for it, promissing me that they would get it replaced wich they did. Twenty three days later I got my car back with a new top and I swear to you that until this day I still find small screws that have loosened up from my top inside the cab. What can I say. Welcome to Miami, Florida!! Anyways good luck with yours, I know it's a small issue you will resolve soon! Victor
  4. Hello: If I'm not mistaken there's/are some thin steel cable/s underneath the canvas that helps to keep the top aligned. In your case they have either broken or come loose. I had my top replaced once by the dealer and when I went to pick my car up (supposedly it was ready) I saw the same thing! When I asked, the service manager told me that it was the steel cable that it was a quick fix and in fact they did not take a long time to return my car in the same day.
  5. Hello guys,, Upgrading my sound system, I just bought and received Focal speakers for my 2001 carrera. I've read in some forums that there's a way to retrofiting them in our cars. I got the 4" KP 100's for the front and rear and 6.5" woofers for the doors. While I knew that I would have to do some modifications for the doors, I thought the front and rears were going to be a little easier to fit in!!! :cursing: My question is: has anybody done this retro and if so, have you taken any pictures of how they look mounted on the grills etc.??? I'm going crazy trying to see how to go at mounting them! Any suggestions or tips you could send my way, I would really appreciate it! Thanks guys
  6. Hello jerhofer: I'm in the process of installing a new sys. on my 2001 996. I'm getting the pioneer avic d3 and I've been talking to Rod myself for the last 2 days. you mentioned that you had sent him your speakers?? Can you explain that? I was planning on buying a jbl amp from crutchfield, but thinking about it I should be somehow matching speakers/amp, am I correct? Any info would be appreciated thanks
  7. Man, I'm so desperate looking for answers at the moment that believe me as soon as do it (IF I can do it !!) I'l be more than happy to take pictures of everything! I'm sure I will not be the last one trying this upgrade. I just found out (from Metra) that there's not such thing as a radio wire harness for our cars, and that I would have to bypass the amp as well.(not making me very happy). But anyways, I'll do my best with the pics...
  8. Hello Guys !!!! I'm in the process of upgrading my stereo system (2001 Carrera cabrio with cdr 220, amp and six speakers) and I just bought a Pioneer Avic D3 with a Pioneer cd changer, I-pod integration etc. The issue that I'm having is that the wire harness that came with the order(metra # 70-1784 for vw's) does not seem to fit in my radio wires plug. Also the new wire harness brings cables for four speakers and I have six speakers in the car. (What do I do with the two rear speakers?????) Is there any place in this site where I could find the radio/amp/speaker wiring squematics as far as cable colors, functions etc.??? I would appreciate any imput from someone since it's starting to become quite challenging. Thanks guys....
  9. Hi guys I know this topic has been more than talked about , but the more that I search & read , the more confused I get! I just finished installing a new sirius radio in my car (I have the stock becker cdr 220 in a 996 2001 cabriolet). I searched in the forums and got it up & running very nice. However, I really don't like the looks of it just hanging there above my dash. I've decided to do things right and just go ahead and buy a good radio, something that would have cd player, nav. sys, sat. radio etc. A unit worth of building a good system from, with obviously better speakers and amp/s in the near future. I have the cup holders & radio in the first two compartmnets, therefore making it easier I guess to fit a double decked unit in it. Would you guys be nice to give me some ideas as to what to really look for, I was reading a forum about a guy that got himself an Eclipse and although the radio looks not only impressive but like the kind of radio I would like to have, he was mentioning that he had to fabricate a plastic I believe ring aroud it to cover the gap between the unit itself and the dash. Are they all like that? I was kind of hoping that a little bit more straight foward installation would be available for this types of cars. Anyways, any help you would send my way would be very appreciated! Thanks
  10. That's exactly what happened to me! I gess I'm not lending it again I've gone crazy looking in the forums but I can't find any talking about it!
  11. Hello Guys!! I own a 2001 996 cabrio and yesterday I noticed that the electric hood release switch had fallen inside the hole! How on earth do I take the trim out, so I can put the switch back into place? Thanks, and this forums are the very best. :drive:
  12. Hello guys, I wonder if you could help me I'm in the process of getting xtended warranty for my 996. Every co. that I've called so far have turned me off to the point that I really don't know what to do anymore. Do you guys recomend any? Thanks!!!!!!! :( :(
  13. Thanks a lot 0586slb, I think you nailed it on the head! I went back to the car and after I started it, played with the swich and the AC kicked on. I don't think there's anything I could do to it, but wait after tomorrow (July 4th ) and take it in I gess.
  14. Guys, I'm having a little issue here! I have a 2001 cabrio in exelent shape, HOWEVER,,,,,,a couple of days ago I noticed my ignition switch was getting dificult to turn it all the way to the left to take my key out, it seemed like it needed an extra push the last 1/8" of the travel in order to get the key out. I decided to put some wd40 on the lock & it seemed to have helped the situation!! TODAY,,,, getting out of work I started the car & went to put the AC on and nothing! I can work the display, you can actually see the temp settings and everything but nothing comes out, it is dead! Living in Miami I can assure you it was not a fun ride home without AC! And to add insult to injury I went to turn it off and I actually needed to force the key out (this time half way back) to get it out. Now the door bell sounds like when you forget to turn the lights off after shutting the car off. Am I dealing with two different problems here or the key & AC are connected somehow??? Any help with any of them would be greatly appreciated! And guys, THANKS A LOT for a wonderfull site!
  15. Hello all! Not only am I new to this wonderful site, but to the porsche world as well. I recently bought my first porsche, is a 2001 cabriolet with less than 10k miles on it and I just feel like I had another child, washing it almost every day I,m sure you have all been there. My question is "can the engine be cleaned??" I took it to the dealer for service and asked the service manager (who made me feel like an idiot) what kind of degreaser I could buy to clean it and the response I got was " you don't clean this engines". I came back to the site and found only one article that talked about washing it with Simple Green? I think. If so, is there anything that I would have to be carefull with as far as water etc. Since I live in florida i have always sprayed my engines with WD40 after washdowns. Would I be affecting anything with it? Thank you Loren for such a terrific job!!
