I purchsed - with some trepidation - the kit from Module Master http://www.modulemaster.com/en/services/porsche_lcd_kit.html.
Did the install about one month ago. So far it works exactly as described.
While the symbols are slightly different from the stock Porsche - it looks and works great. Took about one hour to do the change.
The instructions are detailed and complete. Photos on the site show you exactly what you will get. Totally excellent product.

This is the best solution. I the tool "clicks" fairly easily it means it is slipping on the hex ended locking bar. Probably stripping it a bit - hopefully only damaging the cheap-o tool from the kit. First instruction should be "do not use the tool in your Porsche kit... it is junk. Use a 5mm socket and you will have no problems. The only click you should get requires a fair amount of torque and results in a very solid click.
