  1. I made some further inquiries with BOSCH and got the partnumber for the bushing --> 1 120 300 510 and this bushing costs about 10 Euro (in Europe). Hope this information is helpful for other forum members.
  2. Is there any partnumber (Porsche or Bosch) for the threaded bushing in the rear support of the alternator for a Boxster 986 model? see attached picture. Thank you for your reply. Alfred

Hello Loren, Do you happen to know if the 'old 986 coolant level sensor' PN 996 641 503 00 can be installed in the coolant tank PN 996 106 147 08 or does only the 'new 987 coolant level sensor' PN 997 641 503 00 fit in this latest version of the coolant tank? I was told that the opening for the coolant level sensor on coolant level tank PN 996 106 147 08 has a larger diameter and that the original 986 coolant level sensor PN 996 641 503 00 cannot be installed in a brand new coolant tank. Would appreciate if you could give me some information on this issue. Thank you in advance and best regards, Alfred

  5. Hello, Although there are no trouble codes stored in the ECU of my 2.5L ROW Boxster (MY1999), I have the impression that my secondary air pump does not function as it should do. Has anyone of you tried out if the pump already turns for a short time with ignition 'ON' or does the pump only turn for a short time just after starting the cold engine ? I also tried to trigger the pump with my Durametric 6.0 device - with engine hot and stalled but with ignition 'ON' - but I only hear a 'click' most probably coming from a relay that triggers the pump (???) However I do not hear any pump noise (vacuum cleaner noise) at all. (Could it be that the actuator test with Durametric does not function with the engine hot ???) Would appreciate to read your experiences about this topic. Alfred
  6. I noticed in the shop manual that there are 2 central locking / alarm systems for the Boxster 986 --> I16 and I32. Does anyone know the main difference(s) between those 2 systems and in which cars they have been installed off factory? (model, destination or modelyear depending ???) As far I know there is no indication on the sticker of the control modules which enables to identify one of both systems. (Durametric shows I32 on the PC screen but to my surprise Durametric people confirmed me that the I32 system is not supported by their software ...???) Thanks, Alfred
  7. Hello, I do not understand why this topic is such an issue for some people. Even when using electronic speed correctors it will be necessary to (weekly, monthly, yearly???) recalibrate the speed corrector to compensate the wear of the tyres ! For a technician it is not difficult to understand that assembled units either if they are mechanical or electronic, have a technical tolerance. With the standard speedometer in your Porsche you will never drive 55mph in a 50mph zone unless YOU want to do it . In that case your speedometer will always indicate that your speed is minimum 55mph. I wonder what speed it will indicate when you 'use' an 'aftermarket' electronic speed corrector which is not regularly recalibrated ! Alfred
  8. Hello, I own a 1999 2.5L Boxster. Except for a light steering wheel vibration there was no reason to replace suspension parts but at 70.000km I replaced the original Bilstein shock absorbers by new Bilstein B6 shock absorbers (front and rear) and I also replaced the original front and rear stabilizer by H&R stabilizers. I'm very satisfied with this minor conversion. The handling of the car is more precise and its stability has signifcantly improved and so did the steering wheel vibration; the height of the car and the comfort level remained unchanged. The replacement of all these parts was a nice DIY job. So I can only recommend this 'value for money' conversion. Best regards, Alfred
  9. Hello, I'm looking for the correct partnumber of the clip which is mounted on the front suspension struts of a 2.5L Boxster from modelyear 1999. see attached photo. This clip is used to fix the brake pad wear indicator cable in the front suspension area. Could anyone help me to find the correct partnumber of the clip. Thanks in advance. Alfred
  10. Hello Loren, My friend's early 2006 997 Tiptronic shows exactly the same problem. In the TSB I noticed there is a Workshop Service Action W553 to replace a selector handle support to overcome the problem. However we do not see the relation between replacing this selector handle support and avoiding thus an 'overheating' of a plastic tappet in the ignition lock area. 1.Could you give some more background on this issue and explain the relation between the problem and its solution ? 2. Would it be possible for you to send me (by email or through the forum?) a copy of workshop manual instruction 370 819. Thank you in advance, Alfred

Hello everyone, In Europe there is a regulation from the European Community Authorities that allows a positive deviation of the speedometer indication for all car manufacturers as follows : Actual/real speed + 10% + 4 km/h. This means that when the car is driven exactly at a speed of 100 km/h then the speedometer may indicate 114 km/h !!! Also according to this regulation the speed indicated by the speedometer may NEVER be lower than the actual speed of the vehicle. This means that when the car is driven at an exact speed of 100km/h then the speedometer may never indicate 99km/h or lower. Of course not all car manufacturers do fully use the allowed positive deviation, but you will all know that there are no 2 identical parts in the world, clearances and deviations will always be used in mechanical or electronic parts. I hope the concern is somewhat healed with this explanation. Regards, Alfred
  13. Hello AzarrO, I do not want to mix up things but are you sure that the 02Sensors of your car are working correctly? I had a same driving problem as you had, especially when back-up driving. The clutch was changed at a Porsche Centre without any result. They could not find any other cause! Then I bought the Durametric interface and I could immediately see that one 02sensor was dead, I still wonder why the Porsche mechanics did not notice this with their PST2... After changing the 02sensor myself, the car drove smoothly. See also my last post of February 4, 2007 in this Boxster Forum topic : "Boxster 2.5L -MY1999 - Fault codes P0152 / P1115 / P1119, 02 sensor problems". http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?s...ost&p=61329 I hope this can be of any help to you.   14. Hello, My problem is solved at the end !! I wrote that I tried a second instrument panel which showed the same failure (although the needle gauge was in the '0' position before I installed the instrument in my car). Fortunately I got today the opportunity to try-out a third instrument panel and everything functions perfectly now. Conclusion : MURPHY must have been hidden in the 2nd instrument panel. Those things happen and as we know : never say 'impossible'... Thanks to all of you who gave me hints to locate the problem cause. Alfred
  15. Hello, Can anyone explain me the difference of the drop links 996 343 069 02 / 996 343 070 02 (until MY1999) versus 996 343 069 03 / 996 343 070 03 (as from MY2000 on). In the Porsche Parts List the two versions are still valid. Would the latter set (as from MY 2000on) fit to my Boxster 2.5L of MY1999 ? I have the most recent version in stock and visually I see no difference with the genuine ones which are installed off factory on the car (to be honest I must tell that I did not dismantle yet the genuine ones from my car).   16. Hello, Does anyone know what following (option) codes might mean on a 2.5L Boxster (European version) with Manual transmission ? (see also attached picture of the option code label) C00 M232 The car has also : option code M013 which calls "Sport Technik package". What does it stands for. In the parts list I cannot find any parts related to it. (The sporty suspension parts i.e. struts, springs and shock absorbers are covered by option M030) option code M224 which calls "automatic limited slip differential". What does it stands for ? Mind it is not a Tiptronic car ! In the parts list I found that it is related to the ABS unit only. Is this probably in combination with TC (M222) only, although the restriction is not visible in the parts list either? Thanks for any reaction, Alfred
  17. Loren, Indeed, the sympton is the same with an other instrument panel, so I exclude an internal defect in the instrument panel itself. After changing the instrument panel, I installed my genuine one back in the car and then I had the similar phenomenon with the RPM-counter and with the speedometer (they both jumped to the max. values and stayed there ...!). Then I dismantled everything again and noticed that one of the lugs of the instrument panel assy was not fully engaged. After correcting this the RPM-counter and the speedometer functioned normally again. Only the problem with the fuel gauge remains...unsolved. Would appreciate any further suggestion... Alfred
  18. Hello Loren and other forum members, My fuel gauge problem is not solved yet. I attached a picture to explain what happens : - the fuel gauge needle stays beyond the 'FULL' mark. When turning the ignition on then the needle starts to jump up & downwards some mm's and then remains above the 'FULL' mark. - the board computer seems to work fine since the 'RANGE' follows the content of the fuel tank. - when the fuel tank is nearly empty, the 'RESERVE' indicator telltale lights up. This makes me believe that the fuel gauge is working correctly (I already measured the resistance with the tank full and nearly empty and this seems OK to me). Replacing the instrument did not help either. Do you think that a calibration with the PST2 would cure the problem taking into account that the OBC and the 'RESERVE'telltale work correctly? Additional information : 1. All other functions of the instrument panel work fine. 2. with the Durametric Diagnostic Tool I have no access to the instrument panel although I can communicate with all other computers (ABS, engine, HAVC, alarm,). Therefore I rather suspect a ground or cable problem. Any useful hint would be welcome ! Thanks Alfred
  19. I fully agree with Loren's comments. That is why Durametric makes the distinction between a professional kit and an Enthusiast package. I can confirm that the Durametric service is prompt and correct and I can fully understand that they built in a restriction with regard to the quantity of cars which can be processed with the 'Enthusiast package'. Hopefully Durametric will further work on the development and expand the possibilities for diagnosis (e.g. instruments) and programming (e.g. new car keys, transponder etc.). When I see the regular software updates then I can only conclude that they do not only sell and wait until the sales of their product drops but they continuously optimize their device.
  20. Hello Loren, Toolpants, My fuel gauge seems to be defect. I have a spare cluster with speed indication in miles instead of kilometers. Do you think it is feasible to replace the NOK-fuel temperature gauge and the fuel gauge by an OK-one separately, since I think they are similar on both versions. I saw a picture of a dismantled cluster somewhere else on the site. Is the dismantling self-evident and can I find somewhere a description with fotos or pictures ? Thanks, Alfred
  21. Loren, I read in the shop manual that a calibration of the fuel level sensor might be necessary wit the PST2 or PIWIS when the battery, cluster or fuel level sensor have been disconnected. Unfortunately this feature is not covered with the Durametric Tool... Is it possible to arrange a so-called 'manual self calibration' i.e. by filling and driving the fuel tank empty repeatedly or disconnecting the battery at a certain fuel tank content ?   22. Loren, thanks for the quick response. I'll check the fuel sensor tomorrow. I found some 'Ohm-values' on a German Porsche website. But I still wonder why the needle stays activated with ignition 'off'. There is a company in Germany which is specialised in repairs of ECU's and Instrument clusters. In the worst case I have to send the unit to them. Nevertheless if you or somebody else has a hint, then I would appreciate to hear it. Regards, Alfred
  23. Hello, As from today my 2.5L Boxster's fuel gauge started spinning. The fuel gauge needle jumps from one side of the gauge to the other side. This morning when the fuel tank was half filled the needle indicated O liter (fuel tank empty), when turning the ignition off the needle went to 1/4L. Again ignition on and the needle stayed at 1/4L. After filling up the tank it became worse. The needle just climbed up until it touched the temperature gauge needle...! When turning the ignition off and on again I took some pictures (see attachment, these 5 pictures were taken in about 30 seconds). I did not check anything yet. I only disconnected the battery to 'reset' the instrument but this did not help. The needle never returns to '0' when turning the ignition off. Has anyone experienced such phenomenon and can you give me a hint to find the root cause. Is it possible that a poor mass connection causes this problem? (I doubt it because all other functions of the instrument work fine, also the measured distance to go and also the average fuel consumption seem to work as the temperature gauge does).   24. Hello, I recently bought the Durametric scan tool and it really exceeded my expectations. I could resolve a problem of the 02sensors on my 2.5L Boxster. This defect was never noticed before in an official Porsche Center ... (see my topic in the 986 DIY list about 02 sensors). I can also confirm that Durametric is very cooperative in finding solutions. The only problem I have is that I cannot read the actual values in the Airbag and ABS-system although I can read the defect codes of these electronic units. Communication with the Heating&Airco system is possible (fault codes and actual values) and according to Durametric the Heating&Airco information comes through the same wiring cable and pin which is used to transfer the Airbag and ABS-data. Of course I am aware that there might be a wiring problem in my car too that might be the reason for which I cannot read the actual values in Airbag and ABS but I would like to know if someone of you encounters the same communication problem with these 2 control units on a Boxster. As I wrote before : Do not hesitate to buy the Durametric, mine already proved its capabilities ! Regards, Alfred
  25. Hello Loren, Your suspicion seems to be very correct ! I measured the resistance of the 02 sensor2 heating cables and I read 24MΩ !! No wonder that the 02 sensor2 did not function. Replacement of the 02 sensor was (naturally...) not so evident since it was quite stuck in the pre-cat exhaust pipe. I had to dismantle the cat from the car and had to heaten up the 02 sensor to get it out. Luckily I had a brand new spare 02 sensor available. After replacement of the 02 sensor2 everything works fine, the voltage of both O2sensors switches now as it should be and the engine turns a lot more quiet and steady than before. The most significant improvement can be felt in the drive-off of the car. I always thought I had a clutch or DMF-problem but now I am convinced that this was caused by the non-working 02 sensor2. I really drive another and better car now. (I would recommend all members whose car suffer from clutch judder to check for the proper working of the 02-sensors!) I checked the CEL and it functions with ignition 'ON'. Still wonder why it never lit with these 3 fault codes in the memory of the ECU since the 02 sensor problem must have been present for nearly a year now. [You can imagine my disappointment in the official Porsche service-shop where my car was in service for approximately 3 years now with an extended warranty contract. I suspect they have seen the failure but since the lambda value remained at 1,00 I think they never mentioned it order not to be obliged to grant me a new 02-sensor or the mechanic was not capable to interprete the engine values on his genuine diagnostic tool, so be aware ...!] On the other side I was very happy with the purchase of the DURAMETRIC scanning tool which brought this engine failure to my attention so that future engine or catalytic converter failures caused by the defective 02-sensor will certainly be avoided. I can only recommend this tooling to other enthusiasts. Many thanks for your professional help in solving this problem. Of course this will result in a donation from me to the RennTech organisation.
