  1. Thanks for the head's up. I'll have to head to Walmart and check it out. You might also want to consider a California Pop Top. It's like a car cover, but it only covers the car's canopy, and it is pretty incredible how cool it leaves the car, due to the material that it is made out of. If I know I'll be parked somewhere for a while in the sun, I throw it on, and my car stays remarkably cool all day.
  2. I bought an '03 Targa in the Summer of 2012 with 82,000 miles. After about the first 1,000 miles, I had to replace the alternator, battery, clutch, MAF sensor, O2 sensor, water pump, and a control arm. My IMS was inspected and looks good, and, once my 3 year powertrain warranty runs out, I'll likely replace it with the LN bearing. Everything works great now, outside of the rather flimsy Targa sunshade that broke.
  3. Hi. I have an '03 996 Targa, and the sunshade recently came off track and broke. It appears that the little plastic clip inside the track that moves the shade back and forth broke, so I'll need to replace that with a new one (I already have the new part.) Well, I brought the car into a dealer, and the guy told me that they'd have to remove the entire roof of the car to get to that little sunshade track, and it would cost thousands of dollars for the work. I got the vibe that he just didn't want to deal with it, but I'm not sure. So, I was wondering if any Targa owners out there have dealt with this. I believe that the 993 sunshade track can be operated on if you simply remove the wind screen, but I'm not totally sure. Is the mechanic at the dealership pulling my chain? I could understand if we were talking thousands to repair the actual Targa top, but the sun shade? Sounds fishy. Thanks!
