  1. Hi Hope someone might have some advice? A year ago I replaced my gear linkage with the Stomski Racing product which has worked perfectly up until yesterday. The car has a relatively low mileage at 110k miles so I don't thinks its the gear box.The car only gets driven about once a month, and when I got into it yesterday I couldn't get reverse. After a bit of fiddling I got reverse and got out of the garage. When up to speed on the open road I found I couldn't get fifth gear either, although 1st to 4th were all fine. So I suspect that the linkage needs a little adjustment? Any advice as to what needs to done here? thanks bill
  2. I have read on some forums that coolant should be changed every seven or eight years despite manufactures claim that coolant lasts the life of the vehicle. Anyone have informed opinion on this? Also is it essential to use the vacuum device to refill, or can you refill straight into the coolant reservoir?
  3. I would be changing the TC fluid, its cheap and simple to carry out. There are others on earlier threads regarding TC problems who say the problems of whinning was resolved with new fluid. I now change mine every 30k km.. However, take care placing the drain and fill plugs not to overtighten because I have followed tightening torques and still managed to overtighten!
  4. A note of caution!! I have recently changed my TC fluid for the second time. The first time there were no problems and as others have said, its all pretty simple. However, despite following the correct tightening torque on drain plug, it was overtightened causing a hair line crack in collar around screw hole. It seemed as though the red sealant that coats the new replacement plug acted like a lubricant and plug was continuing to go in without much resistance. I managed to salvage the situation for now, by unwinding the drain nut a few turns and leak stopped. Although it hasn't dripped again now for a few weeks of normal running, I imagine it may be a big problem the next time I go to replace flu id.
  5. Thanks for your response, but was wondering whether there are "Porsche approved brands" apart from its own labelled product of ATF for the 958 Cayenne since Porsche has approved a range of engine oils for different models, and in the case of the 996tt, a Shell and a Fuchs ATF?
  6. Hi Loren On a slightly different matter, are you aware of any alternative Porsche 'approved' ATF for the 958?
  7. thanks again Richard that's very helpful. I did try to google availability and I didn't spot that particular supplier and will call them tomorrow. However when I went directly to Fuchs Australia they advised that they ceased importing the stuff three years ago
  8. Have checked and would appear that the shell product is also unavailable. any other suggestions?
  9. thanks Richard, I will look into it. how does one find out about approved suppliers for oils and fluids? Bill
  10. Hi Wondering if anyone has advice on alternative ATF products for a 2003 996tt ATF change, other than the Porsche brand. The OPC here in Australia charge $50 per Litre for ATF and Fuchs Titan 3353 (which Pelican Parts say is an OEM supplier to Porsche), is no longer available.
  11. The Durametric will read transmission temp in the older 955 models but not the 958 model. I have done an ATF change on my 2011 958 Diesel and couldn't get it to work. It was confirmed by Durametric that the facility is not available on the newer model
  12. when I did my front discs and pads I found the pins somewhat redundant if you have another pair of hands to help. Although the front calipers are big suckers, it was easy to hold the caliper clear of the disc for the few minutes its takes un screw and replace rotor. I also found that it was unnecessary to replace the clips holding the pads, if you just 'unclip and replace' one pad at a time, the clip just stays in place. that bit also can be done in a couple minutes.
  13. I have a 2003TT where the 'parking assist' and 'anti-dazzle' on the rear view mirror have stopped working. when I look at my fuse map the fuse locations are not listed. Can anybody tell me the location of these fuses?
  14. Is an up to date data sheet for transfer and differential fluids still available?
  15. I have a 2011 diesel that has done 160k km. The service manual makes no mention of needing to changs the fuel filter. Anybody know whether it is correct to assume that these filters never require maintenance?
  16. I have a 2011 958 and Durametric is showing a fault code of 4807 - "Exhaust Gas Recirc.Flow Insufficient Detected Factory Fault Code 4807" anyone know what this is and what I need to do to rectify?
  17. my cayenne doesnt have keyless entry and have checked that the 'child lock' is not on. The rear doors failed to open a few weeks apart, so it did look fuses, but have checked the fuses and they were fine. any other ideas would be gratefully received
  18. The workshop manual states the following in connection with the battery change: If the battery is replaced, both numbers (serial number and part number)must be entered in the gateway control unit under: Gateway/Maintenance, repairs/Change battery Can anybody tell me what this means? Do you have to code something into the electronics of the vehicle when you change the battery?
  19. Recently the rear doors on my 2011 Cayenne diesel ceased to automatically unlock when I use the remote to unlock the car. Anybody have any idea what could cause this fault?
