  1. The radio / cd / Navigation unit in my 2006 Carrera S is having display issues. I can't figure out a pattern. It is sporadic, happens sometimes when cold, sometimes when hot. Sometimes it is fine a startup and then goes haywire, sometimes the other way around. Is there a fix other than replacing? Is this a common issue? It always produces something. Sometimes almost solid white lines, it has even done duplicate images side by side at half of their original size.
  2. Does that mean that the rears would fit with 16mm spacers?
  3. Will the Sport Design wheels from a 2006 Carrera 2 S fit a similar year Carrera 4 S?
  4. Installed the OEM air filter housing. Made a noticable difference. Sounds just about right now. Definately can tell it is not completely stock without being obnoxious. Thanks for the advice.
  5. Purchaed an OEM airbox on ebay. I will let you know if it reduced the noise level.
  6. I bought the car more than a year ago. I asked at the time I purchased and the car was traded in with the performance parts and no OEMs included. I figured stock mufflers would take care of it and finally got around to finding a used set and installing them. That change made almost no difference, I was really suprised. I know to be extremely careful with not putting too much oil on the filter.
  7. Looking for suggestions. I have an 06 Carrera S Cabriolet that came with AWE headers, cats, and mufflers. It also has a performance air cleaner system with a conical filter in a sealed plastic housing. It sounds awesome on a track day but is too loud leaving the neighborhood @ 6:00 am. I purchased a set of factory mufflers and installed. This changed the sound very little. I want a little performance sound but it sounds like the flying lizards RSR when I get on it going under an overpass. I would rather drive fast and quiet, no need to let the police know you are coming. Is most of the noise coming from the high-flow cats? If so, could they need rebuilding or do I have to go back to OEM? Am I correct in thinking that headers should have very little to do with noise level?
  8. I already tried the dry ice trick. It helped but did not take it all out, that part of the fender has a lot of curve to it.
  9. Car is 06 Carrera S Cab. Bought with small ding in passenger rear quarter in front of rear wheel. Appears to be double walled from inside wheel area. Can this area be accessed through interior on a cab? If so, how do I remove the speaker panel area? I am hesitant to having someone drill a hole inside the fender and possibly causing rust in the future but I am ashamed of that dent constantly.
  10. Thanks for the advice. Installed O2 simulators. They are basically spacer tubes that take the O2 sensors out of the main exhaust stream. Easy install, no more check engine lights.
  11. Got back from Road America, no rubbing at all. Tires are awesome, I guess I didn't push it hard enough because I didn't hear any squeeling from the new tires. Definately would recommend the new super sports.
  12. Car is at factory ride height with Sport Chrono package. I'll give it a try next weekend and see how it goes. Paulspeed, installed the GT3 rear bar you suggested, anxious to see how it handles, will let you know.
  13. Just picked up my car after having new Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires installed. It's an 06 Carrera S cab with the factory sport design wheels. I went with 305's on the rear since the back tires always looked too narrow for the rims. I had also previously installed 5 mm spacers and it still looked to narrow. The new rears look awesome, pretty much flush with the outside of the fender. Heading to Road America next week for a DE event, worried about cutting the tires. Does anyone understand the geometry of the arc when the suspension compresses? Will they tuck in? Should I remove the spacers?
  14. Since I am not the orignal purchaser of the exhaust system, AWE does not stand behind their product. Already tried to get them to fix the muffler that split the entire length of the weld. Had a local shop repair, not really a big deal. I had a friend tell me that in the muscle cars, they make and in-line adapter to the O2 sensor that fools the computer, is something like that available for the Porsche system?
  15. 2006 Carrera S purchased used with AWE headers, cats, mufflers, Evolution motorsports intake. Periodically get P0420 & P0430 error codes. Usually self clears in a week, then comes on in a few days. Car does not seam to perform any different. Where should I start?
  16. I just bought a Silver 2006 997 S cabriolet. It has some rock chips on hood. Was looking into getting Chip Dr. kit. Couldn't find the paint code. Did some searching in this forum after I posted this and of course found the correct answer, inside the fuel filler door. Anyone used the Chip Dr. kit?
  17. I have a 2000 Boxster S. I live in the midwest and was just able to take the car for a drive this week after sitting in the garage for months. When hitting the brakes, they pulse like there is something going on with the rotors. I don't see anything obvious but when I first went to move the car, it seemed like the pads were stuck to the rotors. Can they be turned down, and if so, what is the min. thickness.
  18. I'm one of the people who asked this question on here after talking to the morons at my Porsche dealer. I had the car in last December and they said it was due to the weather and if it was still a problem in the spring, they would replace the entire pedal. It was going out of warranty two weeks after they looked at it. What crooks, well, after that ranting it's very easy to fix, it should take about 10 minutes. There is one screw at the top of the pedal. Remove it and the pedal assembly will slide up and out of its slot. Just roll it over and spray some silicon on the cable and bell crank. It did wonders for mine.
  19. The throttle pedal in my 2000 Boxster S feels like it is sticking. Not like wide open or anything. When letting off the throttle slightly it feels like the pedal is ratcheting. It is very faint but it takes away from how smooth the car is. Has anyone experienced this? Can the pedal mechanism be lubricated or might it be the cable? The car is still under warranty but I don't want to bother leaving it at the dealer if all I need to do is put a couple of drops of lubricant in the right spot.
  20. Guys, I have to admit I would love to have 280 HP+ from a chip as advertised for my 2000 Boxster S yet I am very skeptical too. There is one thing that always bothers me about Porsche. Why do Boxsters and now the Cayman put out less hp per liter than 911's of 7-10 years ago? I have to believe they keep the less expensive models tuned down to make sure they do not outrun their more expensive brothers. Based on that it makes me believe that there is more hp lurking in that motor that Porsche is afraid to release. Why does the BMW M3 make something like 330 hp from it's 3.2 liter motor?
  21. I know someone will know this off-hand. What are the alignment specs for a 2000 Boxster S with 18" wheels without the M030 package, including toe-in?
  22. Maybe this is a stupid question but can't the alignment be put back to factory specs after the lowering springs or are the adjustment limits outside. Or, are you altering the alignment for better performance while sacrificing tire wear. I drive my boxster S approximately 10,000 miles per year in the midwest, it sits only a few winter months. My belief is "Life's short, drive something that makes you smile everyday". It doesn't get much better than a Porsche with the top down. I would hate to have to buy a new set of PS2's every spring.
  23. I just picked my car up from Kauth & Mayeur in Peoria, IL. I had them install new Michelin PS2's on my 2000 Boxster S. The car is a certified used car I purchased from a Chicago Porsche dealer. They noticed that my passenger front wheel has approximately 3/4" more offset than my drivers side front. I asked if they both had Porsche part number cast into the wheel to make sure one was not a cheaper knock-off of the 18" turbo twists that the car has. They said they both had the same part #. Now that they pointed it out, it is visable that the passenger side tire is flush with the side marker and the drivers side is inset. What gives? Was one of the wheels replaced with a different version, say for a 911 or something? Thanks in advance, Phil
  24. The pins on the relay on my 2000 are 87 and 30. They are straight across from each other.
  25. Thanks, that was easy. Took less than 10 minutes. I agree with you, when I'm flying down a rural 2 lane, I like to also see the ditches on the sides, I'd hate to see what a deer would do to my car. Me, the car, and the deer say thanks!
