  1. Had my 2004 996 C2 towed to the shop after I heard a noise from the engine and it quickly stopped running. The diagnosis from my mechanic is a blown engine. There is lots of metal in the oil but apparently it is not the dreaded IMS failure (had IMS upgrade by LN Engineering installed 2 years ago). They haven't taken the engine apart so I am not sure exactly what failed. The car has only about 65,000 km on it and it was well maintained. Both street and occasional track driving. Anyone know for a good used engine? (in Canada preferably) Any guesses as to the value for the car as is? It is in great condition other than the (worthless) engine.
  2. i have 285/30 - 18". Lots of clearance. But you should match tire type with front if only replacing rears. I run Yokohama AD08R for street and track - great tires but not cheap.
  3. some additional info - 2004 996 C2 with 65K kilometers. could also be idler pulley bearing???
  4. Getting a screeching sound when letting the clutch out in 1st gear from stop, only after driving some time and everything is at operating temp. Any ideas? New serpentine belt last year. New clutch kit and pressure plate 2 years ago. Clutch throw out bearing???
  5. It doesn't have to be high mileage - my 996 had only 24k miles and the cats were broken up and plugged. Just wondering what you did to replace them? I added a central muffler (cat delete) and ECU chip for about 10% more engine output and an amazing exhaust sound.
  6. had a similar problem with my MY 2004 996. after many months of replacing varoius parts my mechanic traced the problem to bad cats.
  7. Very recently sold my 03 Boxster (72K miles and very few issues) and got a 04 996 C2 with 23K miles. Seals were leaking so while it was in the garage I had the clutch replaced, as well as the flywheel (on the advice of the mechanic). Also upgraded the IMS bearing with LN Engineering. It's my daily driver and occasional track car. Hope the 996 is as trouble-free as the Boxster was. So far I love it (but still miss the Boxster).
  8. Switched from Toyo T1R to Yokohama Advan AD08; 225/40/18 and 265/35/18 on Fikse Alloys. Love the new Yokohamas on a dry track - very predictable.
  9. The dealer just confirmed that it is not an S model, and that they do not know the horsepower; even though they specify 345 HP in their ad!
  10. Thanks very much. The decoder says it's a 996 with 320HP. Guess that answers my question!
  11. I am looking at buying this 2004 911 Carrera in Calgary. It is advertised as an S model with 345HP. Did Poorsche make a 996 S? I cannot find any info online about it. Thanks!
