  1. JFP, its no just miles and also depends on what was installed. For me it is one of these: IMS Retrofit™ Classic 4 years or 50,000 miles IMS Retrofit™ Single Row Pro 6 years or 75,000 miles So either way, by time I am ready for replacement despite only 13k more miles.
  2. My oil test came back from Blackstone and the report states: Wear from the IMS bearing shows up as iron, and the 9-ppm in this sample is just fine. Keep in mind, the IMS bearing is a sealed unit so we don't see any metal from it until the seal fails. Watch for an oil leak near the rear main seal or oil filter metal as symptoms of IMS trouble. Universal averages show typical wear after ~3,700 miles of oil use. Wear metals are fine so we don't suspect any mechanical issues. The 5.0 TBN shows lots of active additive in the oil. We consider 1.0 too low. No fuel or water was found, and oil filtration is fine with insolubles at 0.3%. "If the replacement IMSB is one manufactured by LN Engineering, you may be able to verify it on LNE's website" Mine is not listed (I think my prior owner had a private deal with shop (cash) and so no "paperwork." Shop was sold over a year ago. Spoke with former owner who said he did the ims in 2013. "If the IMS was replaced with a quality retrofit like the LN system, you have miles to go before anything needs to be done." I believe its a mileage 40-60k or time interval 4-6 years between replacements, so not sure low miles matters.
  3. Mine is a manual. I am going to wait for a clutch before I even consider.
  4. " If the IMS was replaced with a quality retrofit like the LN system, you have miles to go before anything needs to be done" Being the anal type (and a lawyer) without paperwork or registration (LN website shows no records), I wonder if it has been actually done. That said, running the numbers favors waiting (3k to fix now, or 15k x 5% risk of failure or $750). P.S. This is my first 911 and it is a hoot. I have owned 9 M cars and this is easily its equal.
  5. Just purchased a 2004 Carrera C2 with 50k miles. PPI was clean, and seller says he had IMS Bearing done in 2013 (when he bought). I confirmed with his mechanic (now retired), but no paperwork. So its been 6 years and 13k miles since 2013. Had oil change at PPI and filter was spotless, no metal bits at all. My mechanic says he would do nothing until clutch replacement. Feedback appreciated.
  6. Will likely never know. Here is service history from Carfax (no service reported after 2010, car has 49k miles now. 04/06/2005 5,189 Brumos Porsche Vehicle serviced 02/08/2006 9,260 Brumos Porsche Recommended maintenance performed 03/16/2007 12,661 Brumos Porsche Recommended maintenance performed; Camshaft(s) replaced/repaired; Engine cleaned; Engine removed to complete repair; Battery replaced; battery charging system checked; Front crankshaft oil seal replaced 05/11/2007 12,685 Brumos Porsche Computer module replaced 05/29/2007 13,742 Brumos Porsche Front door trim panel replaced/repaired Front window repaired 04/13/2009 >29,532 Tom Bush Autoplex Vehicle serviced 03/15/2010 29,532 Brumos Porsche 30,000 mile service performed Axle bearing replaced; Clutch release bearing replaced; Valve cover gasket(s) replaced; Engine cleaned; Front crankshaft oil seal replaced; Transmission checked; Transmission removed and reinstalled 04/06/2010 29,856 Brumos Porsche Front wheel bearing(s)/hub(s) replaced 04/06/2010 32,005 Porsche of Orlando Maintenance inspection completed Tire condition and pressure checked Wing/spoiler replaced/repaired; Horn replaced; Body electrical system checked; Brakes checked
  7. Carfax shows the following: At 3 years old and 12k miles: Camshaft(s) replaced/repaired; Engine cleaned; Engine removed to complete repair; Front crankshaft oil seal replaced At 6 years and 29k miles: 30,000 mile service performed; Axle bearing replaced; Clutch release bearing replaced; Valve cover gasket(s) replaced; Engine cleaned; Front crankshaft oil seal replaced Transmission checked; Transmission removed and reinstalled Seller says car had ims done in 2013. Car now has 49k miles. Thoughts Also, car has large rear GT3 style spoiler, doe s that prevent air flow into air box?
  8. Looking at 2003 911 with 100k miles. Had 17k in service in 2015, see attached. No mention of ims bearing. Thoughts?
  9. Looks like I missed out, offered $24k knowing it needed front tires, brakes and rotors. Seller said 25k or highway
  10. I am about to pull the trigger on my first 911, located 9 hours away. Will fly in to buy and drive home. What tools should I take with me on my carry on, just in case? What should I buy before I hit the road? Thanks
  11. Current seller bought on ebay in 2017, I found this info from previous seller: LN engineering single row retrofit pro IMS bearing just installed along with new clutch, flywheel, flywheel bearing, throw out bearing, rear main seal. New IMS bearing rated to last another 75k miles. Oem Fuchs clutch installed. Brakes have been cleaned & inspected. Everything that can go wrong with this car has already been addressed. These repairs were done last week in preparation for sale. Excellent condition. No dents or dings. Perfect seats. No interior flaws. Has porsche 997 19" oem lobster claw wheels in perfect condition with Michelin pilot sports. Only 57,000 miles. New alpine 8" navigation unit, oem bose sound system. Upgraded fabspeed catalytic converters, upgraded interior led lights, body colored interior console and dash trim, cleanest c4s you will find. Clean Carfax, no accidents. No rust. Owned by Porsche enthusiast
  12. Looking at a 2002 4cs coupe, Silver of Black Leather. 87k msrp. Car has 69k miles. Ad claims upgraded exhaust, short shifter and ims (Parts upgraded in 2016: Idler pulley, Flywheel, drive shaft flex disc, pilot bearing, IMS, new clutch kit, larger coolant container). This was all done by the prior owner himself per current owner (and driven 10k miles since). Owner is looking for $26k. Seems to be reasonable. PPI company or dealer to inspect? Other comments appreciated
  13. Here is a pic https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-ul8nSWLDGMY/U2wS8p7oJAI/AAAAAAABBKY/_3M6M40LaBE/w1048-h797-no/badge+clip.jpg
  14. Bird hit my cayenne and ripped the Gold Badge off the front top of the bumper near the hood. The plastic holder is still installed. It looks like it clips on at the top and bottom, can't get it off as it appears to be clamped on both sides. I do not want to damage the parts under neath, so any suggestions? Just crack it off slowly? The replacement plastic part is the same shape but uses different method to attach to car.
  15. Looking at a one owner clean carfax cayenne locally, Black over Black with 45k miles. car has following service history. price seems fair, what do you think?
