  1. Mirror heating is B7 +ve and B12 -ve from the door module, no fuse between unit and mirror itself. A12 +ve and A15 -ve on mirror itself. If of any help?
  2. Mijostyn, thanks for the advice and making things a bit clearer! Will do as you suggest and if anything comes to light will report back! As you say, knowing is a lot better than guessing :thankyou:
  3. I suspect I am suffering fuel dilution too as my daily drive is only 6 miles each way. I thought I had overfilled with oil so I removed the oil filler cap and left the car idling for 20 minutes or so. It appears the fuel in the oil evaporated off as the level now shows correct as full rather than over full.( and no, no oil sprayed out  ) Whether I should stop using Mobil 1 0-40 and use Castrol Edge 5-40 I don't know. Any opinions on this and where does anyone in the UK recommend for oil testing?
  4. I would be looking at earths. First check the reversing lights are working. I assume you do not have anything unusual in the lights such as LED bulbs or such? If the reversing lights work, confirm all earths to the light cluster are good. In many cases a light may work by earthing itself through another one, not necessarily through its proper earth. You no doubt have followed a car where they indicate and the brake lights/side lights dim in time with the indicator flashing - bad earths. That's my guess anyway.
  5. I have found with mine that if the DVD drive is busy trying to read the disc for example it will ignore the eject button! Try pressing it 3 times in quick succession, it usually does the job on mine. I will be taking my drive out in the near future to get the laser replaced, apparently a common issue and a cause of random "the navigation disc is unreadable", "please insert navigation DVD" (when it is!) and general locking up of the maps, non functioning cursor etc.
  6. Looks to me just like the Bosch plugs BMW's use all over the place, though I am obviously guessing on size, you just need the one that has the slot to match the locator on top of the connector. Breakers yard for the plug and a bit of cable?
  7. As far as I am aware the iphone 5 connector is changed from previous iphones and even if you use a lead that converts it to USB the information presented at the USB to the Dension will not be what it expects or requires to function correctly. I advise not using it as you could be damaging your phone or the Dension unit. Anyone please feel free to shoot me down but as far as I can see the latest iphone to be supported by Dension is the iphone 4s. You may need to connect the 5 with BlueTooth to use it and charge from a 12v socket to USB charger only. Jonathan (yes another one! )
  8. Now feel free to shoot me down but I suggest that if the battery is somewhat depleted with all these starts and load on it, surely the volts will be 'low' and the current high until the alternator has restored it to its fully charged state again? 'low' being 13.5 ish.
  9. Ahh that's where I'm going wrong, I didn't know it needs wurst and saurkraut  :lightbulb:  I thought 98 octane would do!
  10. Welcome to the interminable problem of the PCM ! Sounds as if the PCM doesn't recognise the DVD drive. Could be a faulty drive or software screwed up. There are instructions from Richard Hamilton on here as to how to work out the actual status of your system, http://www.renntech.org/forums/tutorials/article/268-summary-of-pcm21-updates/ which at least is a starting point.
  11. Thanks both for the replies. Done the window reset I don't know how many times. Sometimes it does work, usually not! Guess it 'might be' the switch. Passenger one works correctly. Usual scenario on the oil check. Always works on the key turn to run position, warning lights on etc and if hot takes 6 seconds or longer if not quite up to temperature/drained back but the handbook says it will display after filling with fuel and it doesn't. No matter what routine I follow. If, like yesterday, I fill with fuel and turn the key without foot on clutch to just bring on the ignition it says 6 minutes :o , don't think I will be popular sitting in a fuel station for 6 minutes holding up a queue just to check my oil !  I quote the manual :- Oil level measurement during refuelling The oil level is automatically measured during refuelling. Preconditions 1. Ignition is switched off. 2. If the engine is at operating temperature, at least 5 minutes must elapse between parking the vehicle and starting the engine. 3. Refuelling completed within 15 minutes. When the ignition is switched on, the engine oil level is shown on the segment display. Measurement will be stopped if the above requirements are not met.
  12. 2005 UK spec C2S manual. Has anyone got this to work? I follow the steps in the manual and it never works. I have tried locking the car when paying, leaving it open (with wife sat in it I hasten to add!) and it never tells me the oil level when I turn the key. Am I doing it wrong or is it like the drivers window auto close, it just doesn't work?
  13. This is just an idea, but one looks like an antenna connection and the other power plus ??? could be nav or 'phone if you don't already have them? Just a thought?
  14. 340 amps is possible but very high. The clue is your battery. They quote for example 80Ah 360 CCA this means it will supply 80 amps for one hour and can produce up to 360 amps peak current under cold cranking conditions. This is why your earth lead and the supply lead to the starter are so huge! In domestic systems 110/115 volts US 220/240 volts UK they are roughly 10 and 20 times the voltage (ignoring the DC versus AC as it gets too complicated!) hence 10 to 20 times less amperage for the same job. Example 60 Watt bulb in US will draw about 0.5 amps, in UK about 0.25 amps but in a car 5 amps, hence the larger cross sectional wiring to cope with the higher current (amps) Volts x Amps = Watts HTH?
  15. I use all Zymol products, have done for years. As already said use lots of water for washing. I then rinse off with de-ionised water before drying and polishing. The work is well worth the results!
  16. Thank you both for the replies. I thought for a while I was alone with this, it seems not! As you both say, it appears to be a software issue in one form or another. Will do more investigation and see if I can make sense of it. Will report back success or failure or in-fact if I decide to junk it in favour of replacement route. Jl-c
  17. When I got my car, 2005 997.1 Carrera 2S RHD (UK) it had the 2004 Nav disc. I obtained the required discs and updated it with 000.043.205.46.002 and 000.044.901.40 then inserted the 2008 disc 000.044.901.40 and then the 2012 disc 997.044.903.50 and it all worked OK. I didn't use the 000.043.205.46.003 as I could not determine if I had the Motorola phone module or not. Went away on holiday and the stereo, trip etc all fine but the Nav said that the disc was unreadable. Got home and tried to load the 000.043.205.46.003 disc as I thought it might have been that, it said loading phone etc but halted on the progress bar and stopped there. I removed the CD from the Nav unit and re-booted and now I have 'System Error, Amplifier, CD Player, Nav System, Phone not available' I disconnected the battery for 30 minutes, reconnected and removed and checked fuses C F2,F8,F9,F10 D F9,F10 all OK. Reset everything with Durametric and it tells me that errors C203 PASM 'fault steering wheel electronics control unit (drive) and Air Conditioning C141 ' communications PCM display' and C131 'communication gateway control unit CAN comfort no signal communications' they will not clear. Pressing MAIN and TRIP simultaneously gives me Soft Ware versions 3.0 then two triangles below with 'unknown' next to them. When I check on the software status of all units I get:- Unit :- Amplifier Target:- 000 17500/3504 Actual:- ---/---- Entered:- Yes Found:- No Unit:- CD Changer Target:- C38/3003 Actual:- ---/--- Entered:- Yes Found:- No Unit:- Navigation System Target:- ---/--- Actual:- ---/--- Entered:- Yes Found:- No Unit:- Phone Target:- 05034 B54/0305 Actual:- ---/--- Entered:- Yes Found:- No Unit:- PCM Target:- 05024 AD1/0205 Actual:- 05024 AD1/0205 Entered:- Yes Found:- Yes Unit:- System Software Target:- 04364AD1/3604 Actual:- BOL03AD1/4303 Entered:- Yes Found:- Yes Sport now fails to come on and I get PASM failure and PSM failure. 1,4,8 reboot no change to anything, Nav DVD and amplifier have the optical signal to them as I can see the red light! Abject apologies for this being so long but HELP!
  18. I rightly or wrongly assumed as it was instructions from Porsche themselves to their mechanics that NR means 'number' as all Porsche tools have a number to identify them. No help unless you can reference them I know, but it gives you a clue at least!
  19. if the OBC works from the centre console then I'd look at the connections running down the column. HTH
  20. Thank you very much for the quick replies. Got under it today and had a look see. Fan stuck as you surmised Loren, the luggage compartment issues caused by a stuck micro switch not always turning the light on. Reset and those faults cleared now. No success on the CAN issues though, still coming up. Any idea where I should start looking? Just to top it off it now says reversing light 1 out, and its not they both work??? Ever done something you regret starting?  :help:
  21. Having done a search to no avail could someone help me on these faults reported by the Durametric? 997 C2S Coupe 2005. 6 speed manual RHD UK Codes:- 8004 terminal 50 value below lower limit value 8017 right radiator fan motor value below lower limit value 8042 front luggage compartment unlocking implausible signal (info only) these all reappear after resetting them so 'appear' to be real, but what do I do about them?? what is a 'fan motor value' volts, impedance, current etc? Any help gratefully accepted :notworthy: Jonathan
