  1. Hi everyone, I have a 1973 Porsche 911 T with Targa top issues. The safety latch on the driver's side got stuck and I stripped or broke off the receptor for the release handle. I am unable to remove the top now (haven't tried the wire release trick yet). I am looking for someone in the Chicago area who can do repair and restoration on the Targa top.
  2. I just purchased my 2nd Porsche (1973 911 T) and have not been able to qualify for Agreed Upon Value Insurance for my new toy. My GF is a licensed driver in our household but she does not have her own car because the bikes/buses to work. None of the companies I tried (Leland, Grundy, Haggerty, Geico) will accept us because every licensed driver has to have a separate primary vehicle. I don't really want to pay full freight for a weekend driver and would probably not recover its real value in the case of a total loss. Are there any other options or companies with less restrictions?
  3. Thanks Ahsai, I should have mentioned that I checked C2 as well and the climate control panel is working fine.
  4. I installed the spin-on adapter on my 2005 997.1 C2S last year and have had no issues. Recommended for several good reasons and also easier to replace. My shop cuts it open to inspect for shavings each time. I use the Napa Gold 1042 filter recommended by LN.
  5. I signed up for Metromile car insurance (which charges by the mile and uses a GPS tracker that plugs into the OBD2 port). This is great BTW if you don't drive a lot or on a daily basis like me and is saving me at least 50% over regular insurance. The device wouldn't work and it turns out that I no longer have power at the OBD2 port on my 2005 997.1 C2S. It worked fine a few months ago when I last plugged in my engine management interface which also stopped working. I checked the fuse (F1 in Row B) and it looks fine. Any ideas on similar experiences and things to check/resolve this would be greatly appreciated.
  6. Hello everyone, I have been getting this fault indication for a while now: "Failure of engine comp. blower fan" on my 2005 997 C2S. It comes on with a beep and the red light on the coolant temp gauge starts flashing. It seems to occur whenever the fan should/does kick on while driving when it gets too hot. The fan seems to work fine during normal driving and stays/comes on after shutting the motor off. Seems to be problem with the temperature sensor. I have already replaced the fan because the housing was cracked/broken. That made no difference. Then I pulled out the temperature sensor on the passenger intake manifold and it was not attached to anything. It's just hanging there. It looks like a metal probe with an attached electrical connector. It's just lying there between the manifold intakes. 1. Is it supposed to be attached to anything? Is the metal probe supposed to be attached/inserted into anything? 2. It looks like there is a recess in the probe that fits into a slot on the manifold. This picture from Pelican parts shows the slot at the top of the manifold but mine is at the bottom. It does not want to stay in there when I try to squeeze it in. http://www.pelicanparts.com/techarticles/Porsche-996-997-Carrera/26-FUEL-Replacing_Engine_Sensors/images_large/pic01.jpg Any ideas/pointers would be appreciated. Thank you.
  7. Hello, I have a 2005 C2S with 4 pre-drilled license plate holes with plugs and painted caps on them. I tried to pry them out with a small screw driver but only managed to pop of the cap. Really ugly now. I can't seem to get behind the bumper to pinch/push out the plugs and then get a bolt back there for the plate. Can someone please show me an easy way to get behind there from above or below? Thank you
  8. Hi everyone, I am looking at a car at Polar Porsche in Medford, New Jersey. Would love to hear anyone's opinion as to the reputation and quality of this dealer/shop and the cars they sell. Thank you.
  9. Hi everyone, I am looking online at an '06 C4 with 68K miles on it. It looks good in the pictures but price seems low so I am worried. The VIN number keeps coming up with 0 records, another red flag. If I do go to look at it, what are the top items I need to look at and check for? Any tips on spotting problems/concerns would be appreciated. What are the top engine/trans/drive system issues that would come up at that mileage? Cheers!
