  1. Hello a friends 08 Cayenne S is having a strange problem. he tells me if he drives up to the gas statation and shuts the car off and removed the gas cap and puts gas in the car it wont start right away he needs to crank it over for a few then it starts and it will start fine from now on till he puts gas in the truck again.

    Here is what I'm thinking.

with the cap on I guessing we have a positive pressure in the tank and that primes the low pressure pump to get fuel to the high pressure pump. when he open's the fuel cap he losses this pressure and the pump losses it prime.

  2. Hi I have two 6 speed manual transmissions one makes noise but the case is fine the other one was rebuilt not to long ago but the bell housing has a pretty big crack going all the way around so I was thinking if I can swap the internals from one transmission to the other. is that something that can be done or dont even try it? I have rebuilt engines and axles but I have never tried a transmission before.

    Thanks

  3. I towed the 911 to my house and I was able to drive it. This is what I noticed as you are taking off from a stop and slowly moving off from a dead stop you feel the noise and the 911 pulses its like the clutch has a high spot and when it hits it you hear the noise and the car pulsates forward. I have the car up on the lift and I will be dropping the transmission tomorrow.

  4. By the way this is not my car but my friends car I sold my 996 a few years back. I have been working on his car for years but I moved and I'm not close to work on it any more, but I going to make the 6 hour trip to bring his car to my house so I can see whats going on it it.

this is what he told me.

(My friend) It all started with a noise then the car would not move. I was told it was the transmission I bought a rebuilt one, had it put in then the car would still not move then I was told it was the pressure plate then a new pressure plate was installed then a new clutch was put in. (at this point the car moved but made noise) then I was told the flywheel was bad I replaced that when I took it in for a new flywheel the transmission bell housing had a crack that when all the way around. the cracked had the transmission removed and the bell housing welded and reinstalled. Now when you are driving and you accelerate you hear a clicking sound coming from the back I was told that its the thrust bushing on the crank they are saying I need to rebuilt the motor.

(Me) I dont know how a bad thrust washer will cause the tick I can see a bad shaft or ring gear or transmission. He asked is they checked the endplay when the transmission was out and they said no. what I plan to do is first check end play then remove the transmission, clutch, and flywheel and measure the endplay.

what do you think it could be? can it be crank end play? what should the endplay be i'm going to put on my dial indicator and see what it marks.

I have not driven the car or heard the noise yet.

    Sorry for the long story.

  5. well doing more testing yesterday I found it was not the CV shaft as I thought. here is what I see now. I jacked up the rear and locked one tire and put the car in gear and moved the other tire back and forth. I  heard the clicking sound in the lower gears but not he higher gears. I'm guessing I need a new trans. I attached two sound files I hope you can hear the clicking on the first gear clip on the second clip what you hear is the axle play which is normal.

  6. The car has started doing this to me while I drive. Lets say I get up to 25mph when I get off the throttle I hear a click when you get back on again it clicks again. I'm not talking about stomping on the gas just a slight touch of the throttle get back up to 25. I don't hear it at highway speeds I think but that could be because of road noise or me go so fast that the noise get left behind. I did find a little play from the drivers side half shaft between the shaft and CV Joint bolted to the axle. Any ideas what it can be?

  7. You can remove the connection and test the two pins (one pin should have ~14v +ve from the battery when engine is running. The DME supplies ground pulse to the other pin to activate the valve). You can use an LED in series with a resistor (say 500 ohm) to test the two pins. If the LED is blinking, at least you know there's power and DME control. Note LED has polarity though so you need to connect it with the right polarity.

i have been working on the car today and as you said I have power on one leg (red blue wire) I see 13.7 volts so I know that is good. I ran 12 volt power to the valve and I hear and see it move so Im guessing its working. with your idea I think I can use a noid light set to see if I see power pulse on it. I just need to buy a new set Amazon here I come. I ran 12 volt power to the purge valve in the back and as soon as i give it power the engine shuts off. is this normal?

Now if someone can get me a wiring diagram so I can test at the dme and see if I have a short or a bad DME.
