O.k. one more quick question for you guys and gals. Assuming the dealer is correct that there is an upgrade disk 997-642-257-02 that is a 2005 version 4 and my current disk is a S0006-0070-411 10.2004, would I gain anything by upgrading from 2004 to the 2005 data. Seems to me that would be like putting quarters in an *** kicking machine. There's no way a 2005 update can be anywhere near accurate since it is 8 years old, correct?

Hahnmgh63, It's a new Carrera dealership supposedly but it's a small dealership that sells Audi and BMW as well. I do not think they are true Porsche experts like the larger dealerships are. I knew from the minute I spoke to the service guys that they were not clear on firmware upgrades. The knew about Navigation disks but that was only through their contacts with the parent dealership. Thanks for confirming my suspicions. Deilenberger, Thanks for the tip! You read my mind as that was going to be my next question.

I recently purchased a 2005 Cayenne S and have the same issue as many of the previous posters that I have read. My navigation system is out of date. I just got back from the dealer who quoted me $650 for the latest navigation disk. Before heading over there I had been researching on this forum about potential upgrades to the firmware in order to get the latest maps. The dealer said that based on my VIN number that the firmware does not need to be updated and that all I need is the updated navigation disk. My question is simple? The part number the dealer gave me for the disk is 997-642-257-02. When I research that disk I see that it is a 2005 Version 4. What will I gain by purchasing a 2005 upgrade disk? Am I correct in my understanding that to get to the latest disk you need to upgrade from 2.1A to 2.1B to C and so on? My system says... SW VER 2.1 PCM - 04202MD1 / 1805 System Software - 04114AD1 / !404 AMP - 00016457 / 3804
