Thank you both for your prompt replies. You have greatly relieved my mind. I was imagining all kinds of doomsday scenarios.

Hello all,
As I was putting oil in my 2003 996 cab today I noticed a yellow residue in the fill tube. The residue was the consistency of grease. I am scheduled for yearly service trip next Friday and would really like to know what this residue could be prior to taking my car in for service. My engine and power train warranty will expire in June so I am really interested in finding out whether this residue is a sign of something bad. Any input will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Thank you all for your input and for not pointing out my ignorance on this point. I swear to you I am usually good with mechanical repairs and upgrades. This little bugger just stumped me.
-
I feel really dumb. I cannot get my oil filler cap to come off. Is there some secret word or spell I need to cast on it in order to remove it? Forgive my ignorance and thank you for your help. By the way, it is a 2003 996 cabriolet.

Thank you Loren. I appreciate the tip as well as your willingness to share your knowledge.

I'm sorry if I broached the rules of the forum or offended anyone.

Would this amp also be the one I need to replace amp in 03 996 cabrio with cdr23 most not bose?
-
The CDR23 in my 03 996 cab is not making sound. All buttons and displays are working but no sound from speakers. Does this indicate a defective amp? I have non Bose with MOST (at least I think I do). Any and all suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you in advance

I have a 2003 996 cab with defective cdr23. Or possibly it's the amp. Don't think I have base system but might have most. How can I tell which audio system I have? If it is the head unit can I just replace the cdr23? Is there a way to tell whether the head unit or the amp are the culprit? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

I have a 2003 996 cab. The cdr23 suddenly stopped producing sound even though it visually appears to be working fine. I have read that this problem can be a bad head unit or a bad amp. Is there a way to determine which of these two is the problem? I do not have BOSE or CD changer but do have an amp and believe I have MOST. Any help with this problem would be deeply appreciated.
Thank you,
Roy Parnell

Sincere thanks to all who offered suggestions. I finally had time to install the rebuilt wiper motor I got from advance. My wipers work again and just in time for a south Carolina thunderstorm. You are all awesome.
-
I'll check that at my first opportunity. Thank you again.
-
LOREN I THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR HELP AND RAPID RESPONSE. I am still curious though why the fuse didn't blow thereby saving the wiper motor. Any ideas? Thank you again
-
First of all I apologize for the multiple posts. I'm pretty sure the motor is dead as it seems to be the source of the burned smell. I removed the motor and am pretty sure linkage isn't slipping.

I need help replacing the wiper motor on my 996 cab. Car was covered with ice from winter storm. I let it run for 15 minutes and apparently wipers were on intermittent. Had electrical burning smell when I got in car and wipers wouldn't work. Don't understand why fuse didn't blow in order to save wiper motor. Any and all info deeply appreciated. Thank you.

Thank you for your input wross. I too use Raggtop cleaner and sealer.
I do this without issue. I also use raggtopp once a year to wash and then seal. Of course I also keep my car covered IN the garage...LOLAny input on vacuuming the cabrio top?
As far as products (after trying many of the top ones) I use Aero 303 for plastic/synthetics and leather exposed to sunlight, exterior products are Zaino! Poorboys tire protectant.

Any input on vacuuming the cabrio top?
-
I occasionally vacuum my convertible top which seems to work well. I have not seen this mentioned by anyone and wonder if using the vacuum on the top could be causing some kind of damage. Any input will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Just curious. Have any other cabrio owners experienced this problem?
Thank you in advance
-
Thank you fpb. I'll check that.

Hi all. I have a problem with my 2003 996 Cab. When top is up and I experience a change in slope such as turning into an uphill driveway I hear a bumping sound from the top of the windshield. Any ideas what this might be and how I might fix it?. Thanks in advance

After considering this Flanders, I believe you are correct. The picture on the monitor at the auto parts dealer did show the entire switch along with keys. Thank you for your input and help. I believe my $20 part will suffice quite nicely.
-
I ordered the replacement switch online for $20. After giving clerk at Advance Auto Parts the part number he informed me that the part would be $365 but that "it has AUDI stamped on it". I said thanks but no thanks. You have no idea how much I appreciate your help in this matter.

Thank you very much for your help.
cdr23 problem

Turned out the problem was the amp and not the CDR23. I bought and installed a refurbished amp and installed it and my problem was solved. Thank you all for your suggestions.
