Hello there, I am in the process of trying to fix my mothers hood on her 2002 Porsche Boxster S. I try to relate to past forum posts but this one I haven't come accross. Being a 2002 it has the newer type transmission and 'V-type' cables. Approx 1 year ago, she took the car out shopping lowered hood all ok. Went to raise it when she parked up and the clamshell raised wonkily so she stopped before doing any damage (wisely). We then got it home and disconnected the ball joints where it sat ever since. (It is a second car and only does very low mileage). Last week I set about tackling the problem and got to the task. It turns out the cable from motor to mechanism on the passenger side (LHS) had twisted inside and got damamged. So ordered a new Porsche cable, fitted it up and aligned the mechanisms both side to the timing marks. Reconnected the hood and clamshell joints so the hood and clamshell were half up at this point. Ensured handbrake was up and light illuminated (check) and pressed switch to open - nothing - no hood open/close light on dash. Despite hood being halfway between open and closed position. Press switch to close and roof closed up evenly and smoothly both sides and retracted the clamshell to closed position all ok - still no hood open/close light on dash. Also didn't go too far on switch as didn't have auto stop (due to no light I presume) so just guessed when all was closed and relatched roof to the front pillar. Windows raised up. Still no hood open/close light on dash. Handbrake light still all on ok. It I unhook the latch as if I am going to lower the roof the windows do NOT drop and if I then press the open hood switch I get nothing at all. If I lower the windows manually then press my finger into the microswitch with the top unlatched - the windows raise up automatically as they should. The windows also drop/rise when operating the door handle like they should so no problem there. So problems to summarise : No hood open/close light on dashboard. Windows do not auto drop when unlatching roof. No action when pressing hood open side of switch. What does work : Window auto up when latch shut if you drop windows manually. Hood close side of switch (no matter what the circumstances) Handbrake Light / Switch. Relevant fuses all checked and look ok. Door Handles raise/drop windows as they should. Sorry for making this a long post but am trying to give as much info as possible to make diagnosis easier. Thank you in advance for your time in reading this and hopefully responding. JR
