  1. Many Thanks for the fast feedback I assume the price quoted $320+ for the water pump is OEM, but I will double check with them first.
  2. As per usual I've booked my car in for a routine "coolant flush" and came back with an estimate for $000's. This is the same Porsche specialist who quoted me $2000+ to fix my soft top and it was fixed by myself over a period of time for approx $3-400. They've sent me a picture of the water pump (attached) and I can see there is some leakage, but I feel just replacing the gasket would suffice to stop this leak I think replacing the entire pump is a bit OTT. Just looking for some feedback as to whether or not the pump is past its sell by date or not. If it needs replaced not an issue, but after the soft top repair I am dubious about what exact works is needed and what is to bump up their bank balance.
  3. Maurice, I finally got some spare time to work on the roof, we removed the bent lever (picture attached), but then I had to call in some additional help to get the top fully synced at both sides and we did manage to get the top fully closed with everything level and cycled through opening and closing the top numerous times to ensure it all worked as per attached picture. However about 4 days after this I went to open the top and it again did not fully close and is sitting higher at the passenger side than the drivers side as can be seen in the attached pictures, any idea why it has gone back out of sync? Will try to get take a closer look after Xmas, but wondered if there is anything we have missed? I replaced the levers, push rods and all the associated hardware with new parts. Kind Regards James
  4. Hi Maurice, I finally received the new hardware to replace the "home made" hardware for attaching the push rod's to the levers as per the attached pictures, I also ordered 2 x new push rods as well. Having removed the old push rods it was clear that there was some serious distortion / bending of these parts as indicated in the attached picture. Upon fitment of the new hardware and push rods it became apparent that the passenger side lever is completely bent out of shape when compared to the Drivers side lever as indicated in the attached pictures. Therefore I am now at the point of ordering a new lever or purchasing 2 x complete used transmissions and replacing the entire roof mechanism, however I am struggling to ascertain what the transmission parts numbers are as there appears to be a host of options as per below: · 987 561 179 00 / L · 987 561 179 02 / L · 987 561 180 00 / R · 987 561 180 02 / R I've also seen part numbers 179 01 and 180 01 as well. I just want to make sure before I spend $$$ (still cheaper than buying from the dealer) on the internet that I am ordering the correct parts, I will try to obtain just a lever in the meantime. When I lowered the roof there was some "cracking noises" so I think the new hardware and push rods are now showing up the lever being bent out of shape and the roof is now also fouling on the cover when trying to fully open at the drivers side and not the passenger side which has the bent lever?
  5. I'm possibly looking at having to order new transmissions for my convertible roof (have push rods and some hardware to change out first) and I am looking to confirm the exact part numbers I require for my car, details listed below · 2005 Model · Boxster S · Tiptronic · LHD I've looked and found the following 4 part numbers, however I'm unsure which L & R parts I require for a LHD car: · 987 561 179 00 / L · 987 561 179 02 / L · 987 561 180 00 / R · 987 561 180 02 / R If anybody could confirm which L & R Part number combination I require before I spend $$$ it would be greatly appreciated
  6. I've queried this with the garage and they've confirmed they have quoted me for a full flush of the system so they mentioned 8 - 9 litres, thanks for the feedback
  7. Hi I've read numerous topics on the Tiptronic fluid changes on the RT forums and from what I can see it will take approx. 4.5 - 5 litres to complete a filter, gasket and fluid change on my Tiptronic box. My local Porsche Specialist has quoted me for 9 x litres. I read this is for a completely empty box after rebuild, etc. Does anybody have anything in Black & White that states that 4.5 - 5 litres is sufficient to change out the fluid? He has quoted $21 per litre and I don't see why I should pay an extra $80 - 100 for fluid that I don think I need for the change. He has quoted 2.5hrs to undertake the change at approx. $200 which I don't mind paying as I don't have access to a ramp, required tools, etc plus its 40dc outside and dusty (United Arab Emirates). Also is it worth having them change the diff oil at the same time? I'm just trying to do some preventative maintenance and the box is working fine however the car has approx. 143,000km with a new engine fitted 25,000km / 2.5yrs ago by the Porsche dealership (cost more than what I paid for the car earlier this year) with which the car has a full service history with however since it is no longer under warranty I am not willing to pay $200+ per hour for labour to subsidise the nice "free" coffee in the Porsche Showroom so I prefer to use the local specialist who also services Maserati's, Ferrari's, etc :-)
  8. That's was my thoughts that it was Terracota, however since I've got to order everything and have it shipped in to the UAE which takes forever I just wanted to find confirmation some where in writing that the code MB was for the colour Terracota. I've googled some pictures online (UK car advertised for sale pic attached) and it does appear that this is the colour of my interior. Thanks for helping me confirm this as its always good to have a 2nd opinion before ordering.
  9. I'm looking at ordering some touch up paint & leather restorer. My car's exterior colour is L92U so that's Arctic Silver as per attached picture showing the Paint Code, however the Interior Trim / Colour code is listed as MB, however I've been trawling online and so far I can find no reference to this colour. The closest I have been able to find was a listing for MC which was a special order Boxster Red which my interior is not as per the attached picture. Can somebody help me track down the exact colour name / details for my interior? I'm thinking this is possibly a special colour for the Middle East Market only?
  10. Hi Maurice, I placed an order with Porsche UAE today and it will take 10+ days for the parts to arrive so I'll update you when these arrive and I can get them fitted and see if this fixes' the roof issue. Best Regards James
  11. Hi Maurice, I spent a bit of time checking the pushrods, etc as you suggested before taking out the drivers side transmission and I have found that there appears to be a very strange bolt fitted to the control lever on the transmission and also the bolt on the push rod appears to be loose as I was able to move this by hand and this bolt also appears to be at a different spacing from the same bolt on the passenger side push rod. I've attached some pictures with comments showing what I have found tonight between the driver & passenger side mechanisms. It also appears that the push rod maybe fouling on the control lever and this maybe stopping the roof from fully closing. To answer your question the roof closes perfectly fine with no issues, its just the last 1" when opening the roof appears to be the issue. Looking at the parts list (picture attached) it appears that I need to order item no 7 (part no 987-561-919-00 Assembly Kit) and possibly a new push rod Item 4 (Part no 987-561-279-00 / 01) for the drivers side in case this is slightly bent and is fouling on the control lever and replace these item's and adjust the bolt on the push rod to the same as the other side and see what happens? Best Regards James
  12. Maurice, many thanks for the feedback. I'll get on to this over my wknd, just a quick question if found faulty can the microswitch in the drivers side transmission be replaced or do I require to replace the entire transmission? I'll let you know how my investigations go. Thanks Again James
  13. Hi Maurice, sorry for the quality of the pictures and it does appear everything is in place and not broken. Due to the hot summers over here in the UAE the roof has basically been kept in the closed position for the past 5 - 6 months the last time I used the roof was back in April before the temperatures soar up to 45+. Before this the roof worked perfectly fine so it was a bit of a shock when it would not retract fully. Could it just be an adjustment that is required on the pushrods / v levers to pull the roof down that final inch? I've also checked to see if any of the roof fabric is being caught / fowling in any place and I can't see anything like this either. If the car thinks the transmissions are in the fully open position as there are no dashboard warnings when the roof gets to this point could it be that the transmissions themselves are at fault? I've found some 2nd units online that at the price I would easily purchase if I thought it would rectify this issue, however I don't think the transmissions are at fault because they are easily closing the roof. Is there any trouble shooting you could suggest to help me get to the bottom of this issue? I was thinking of measuring the distances of the push rods from the cars body at both sides at the same points when partially open at several points through the roofs opening to ensure these rods are set the same settings however since the roof doesn't appear to be squint I don't think this will help me? I may also put the car in to Porsche and see what their technicians come up with, as I am loathe to go back to the "specialist" who suggested I change all these parts which are clearly fine at great expense. Regards James
  14. As can be seen by picture 1 my soft top retracts to approx. 1" from closure when opening the roof, the information system thinks the roof is fully opened, however it will not close that last 1". I've put the car in to a local specialist who diagnosed that I needed to replace both transmissions, push rods, etc. However upon me inspecting these parts tonight (pictures 2, 3, 4 & 5) there appears to be no kinks / bends or snapped parts of the rods and the transmissions appear to be fully moving open and closed as indicated by the information system. The cable is in place (picture 6) and I'm loathe to spend a small fortune when it appears that this issue could be rectified by some minor adjustments or am I just being over optimistic? If anybody has any suggestions as to what I can try to rectify and / or fault find this issue it would be greatly appreciated.
