  1. Easy fix! The clip was not the problem, but caused me to notice that the top release hook was catching in the storage compartment area. Once I attached the storage area piece the way it belonged the top hook did not catch and the top went up fine. Bottom line is I guess I should have looked all over rather than assume it ewas in the mechanical workings of the top! Good thing as I had to raise the top as we saw rain for the first time in a month. Mark
  2. Looks like the clamshell pivot pint is missing a clip that holds it in place when the top is operated. Not sure if that would cause the top to press forward rather than up but I will replace the clip and see if there is any change in operation. Everything else looks to be ok, although it is difficult to see without the top raaising up more than a foot or so.
  3. Looking for advice on where to start problem solving. Have done a search and can't seem to find this exact problem. I have a 1997 Boxster, have replace red ended push rods with the newer white ones last year. Had my top down for over a week and when I went to raise it the clamshelll went up fine but the top seemed to want to go forward into the middle of the roll bar rather than up over it. The white ended push rods are in place and the clamshell seems to work fine. Is this a cable problem or does it sound like something else? Thanks in advance for your advice?
  4. I just replaced the same item. I am sure this is your problem. I got many different quotes for the new piece. Suncoast quoted $45, local dealers were anywhere from $66-$79. The updated piece has a white ball on the end rather than red. Hope this helps. coachb 1997 986
  5. I have a newly acquired 1997 and the rest stops for the top (behind the rollbar) are both in different positions and I am not sure which one is correct, the right side one is out of sight when the top is down (I suspect this is the correct position) the other on the left side kind of points up above the edge of the top, this one seems to impair the top going completely down on this side by about a quarter of an inch or so which leaves the clamshell not quite flush on that side. I would like to know if you know which is correct and if those stops just pull out and can be switched positions or are they different shaped stops for each side. Thanks in advance for your suggestions and help. coachb
