Hi guys, I came across and oddity and wanted to hear if anyone has heard of a 911 being swapped with a cayman engine. So, I purchased a 2005 carrera a couple months back, it has over 150.000 kms, had it inspected post purchase and everything came up clean. No major issues for the first couple months, decided to do an oil change and all of the sudden my mechanic pointed out that the engine is from a 2006 cayman s. Wow, talk about a blow to the face. My biggest gripe is that I took it to three different mechanics and no one noticed that the engine was swapped. My mechanic claimed no one noticed because the part number was covered with oil.. Also, the car report was clean. It was imported from Newport Beach around 2009 and has no reported accidents or any red flags on the report. I'm assuming that this Porsche had an ims failure and the engine broke down, and the previous owner, or dealership where it was purchased, swapped it with a cayman engine. So, I guess I have a couple questions for all of you: 1) has anyone heard of this type of a swap? How screwed am I? 2) is there any way to tell the mileage on the engine? ( I only have the part number, no history of any engine swap...) 3) can I take any action on the dealership? (Less then 6 months since purchase, also i am from ontario)
