  1. Digging up an old thread, but I finally got around to ordering new headers and cats from fabspeed. Will be bolting them on this weekend, hopefully it will be a painless endeavor! I have read 19 ft. lb. torque on the header and 22 ft lb. on the cat., can anyone confirm this? How about a torque measurement for the O2 sensors?
  2. I have an 02C4s. A few weeks ago I started hearing a hollow infrequent knock at idle that has become more regular and noticeable over time. At first it sounded like something was loose and was just intermittently rattling as the engine was at idle (exhaust or something in that general area). 2 weeks ago the car threw a CEL for a misfire on cylinder 1, which was attributed to a cracked ignition coil that got wet during a Florida monsoon. I replaced all of the plugs and coils (as I just crossed 60k miles) and the car has run great for 2 weeks. Today on the ride home I threw another CEL with code P0430. The most likely suspects are a bad Cat or O2 sensor, but I am unclear if either of these would produce the knock I am hearing underneath the car. Would the Cat or O2 sensor contribute to a hollow knocking sound at idle? Is the P0430 typically attributed to a bad Catalytic Converter/O2 sensor or is there anything else I can take a look at given the tapping sound I am hearing from the engine?
  3. I know this thread is ancient, but I stumbled across it while I was researching an issue I am currently having so I figured I would provide an answer to Ops question. Quoting Loren: There is a simple test for the coils to see if they are good or not. All you need is an ohm meter. Coils: Resistance between terminal 1 and terminal 15 at 20°C: 0.3 - 0.7 ohms. Anything outside of this range is suspect. Likewise on the spark plug connectors: Resistance: approx. 2 k ohms
  4. Just got a p0301 on the way home tonight. The car sounded a little rough on start up, and stuttered under moderate acceleration after it warmed up and threw a CEL. Idle was definitely rough after I got off the interstate. Car just hit 60k miles and I have been planning to do plugs/coil packs, I am second owner (got it with 32k) and I am assuming plugs are original. I live in Florida and it has been a monsoon here all week, so I am hoping it is a moisture/cracked coil pack issue. I'm going to put the car up on jack stands and see how coil pack 1 looks tomorrow. Anything else you guys would suggest looking at while it is up in the air? Obviously still looking at doing the plugs/coils in the very near future, but if I can get it running smooth (and keep it out of the dealer's hands) until then it would be great. (Cylinder 1 is the drivers side furthest to the rear on a US 996 correct?)
