  2. Lewis is right, I’ve had all those in his list failed and repaired while under warranty (bought 2 yr extended). I know it’s difficult and annoying but it’s in your best financial interest to let go of that Porsche ! I honestly believe they don’t make P-cars to last. They look great and give you a symbol of status but don’t plan on keeping it longer than 5-7 years. You’ll regret it. Sell it while it still has some value.
  3. How much will it cost all in, including shipping? What if your trans, diff or uber expensive electronic part fails next ? I'd be hard pressed to justify the cost and time with that process.

  5. My 04 S acted that way, turned out cracked cylinder #3 wall. No idiot lights or anything. Ended up with large paperweight :cursing:
  6. Yea, it seemed pretty odd to have such a failure with absolutely NO warning signs & no idiot lights came on either. Car always ran real strong and smooth! If you dig around on the internet you can find quite a few similar issues with cracks in cylinder walls (alusil). I spoke with a 928 guy who can fix scores in the walls but if they weld a crack, it usually will re-crack near the weld (the weld holds just fine). So I suppose I need to find a salvage motor or see what I can get at wholesale. Thanks for the info!
  7. A few weeks back, my 2004 C4S with 82,000 engine failed. Always dealer maintained at proper intervals. About 8 months out of extended warranty. Was coming home one night, started to stutter, then just quit like the engine fell out ! No idiot lights or anything. Stealer wants 30k to replace engine! Bore-scope revealed missing piston in cylinder 3 (yea, gone!) and visible crack in cylinder, coolant and metal in oil. Any ideas on best approach to get Porsche NA to own up and do the right thing? If not, any idea where/how to get rebuilt short or long block or iron-sleeved? Anyone know of a good indy shop? I'm located in Southern New Jersey. Thanks for the advice

  10. Yeah, same situation. Bought 4 new Pirelli Scorpions (road force-twice) and still noticed vibrations. We tried all sorts of things, no luck. Since I'm not one to "jump" on new cars I can't bring myself to get a Cayenne, so I bought an extended warranty and just had the lower control arms replaced and some other stuff. Cardan shaft is next on the list. Haven't had the chance to drive it yet, so I'm not sure if it helped. Service rep said it felt better, but he's not sure the vibrations are totally gone.
  11. Anyone buy into Frozen Rotors? At around 29lbs per, I am seriously considering the lighter weight ones from JH Motorsports. They claim to be 9lbs lighter than stock! Kohan 22in wheels. No idea of the weight but I love them. I think they go perfectly w/ the car. Not too much! Yeah, They do look good!

  13. I need to replace my stock front rotors on my 04S. Has anyone had good luck with aftermarket one? I was looking at ZeckHausen or maybe JH Motorsports. I'm curious about longevity of aftermarkets. Is Zimmerman the OEM?

  15. Thanks for the replies! I'm not sure I agree with the ball joint thing either. Is the servotronic more of an intermittent occurrence or all the time? The dealer said the cardon shaft checked out OK, but I don't know how it could have been tested?
  16. I've been having issues with a vibration coming through the steering wheel above 67mph. At first, we thought it was due to new tires, but the dealer installed 3 different sets of rims/rubber on my 2004 S and all sets had the vibration. He then took my rims/rubber and put on another Cayenne and it produced no vibration. Now he suspects the ball joins in the lower control arms? Anyone have their changed out? I only have 45k on odo. Seems low mileage for worn out ball joints? But I guess with the weight of the vehicle and the age, it's time? Dealer wants around $1,100 for the job, ouch! Thoughts or similar experiences or advice please?
  17. I've had great luck with the P-zeros! They dont last long but handling and performance is pretty great considering the weight of the truck.
  18. That's the code I got when my pads needed replacing. Can't believe you got 48K on the rears. My fronts were gone at 20K and the rears needed replacing at 32K!

  20. Yeah, I am leaning towards either the Michelin Latitude Tour HP or sticking with the Pirelli PZero Scorpion in 19inch. Got side-tracked as our Washing machine broke so I had to research what's available. MAN, lots of choices! Wifey wants Electrolux, you seen the Kelli Ripa commercials? About $1,600 :o for the one she wants. Whaddaya gonna do? I like the Samsung one WF448AAP.
  21. I Have the Toyo Proxies S/T (2's?) (20's) and really like them. 1. cheap 2. great tread for rain and dry 3. no noise 4 cheap. Thanks for the info! How many miles have you put on the Toyos? I bought some Falkens for the wifes car and they were good at first, but after about 20K miles, they started to go out of balance often and their wet traction got really bad. I had to dump them after about 30K, replaced with a set of Goodyear Touring, much better tires!
  22. Bill, at what point do you get on Ortega and how long are you on it? How's the traffic at your time of travel? Looks like a guy could get in a lot of trouble on that kind of road! :drive:

Cool video, fixed the link issue (did not work with Chrome however) Cayman S Ortega Highway My Cayenne S came from the factory with the Contis on 20" wheels. They weren't bad, but they made excessive road noise at roughly 20K miles. They were replaced after 24,000 miles because they were worn. Not bad for a performance tire. Because of occasional light snow, I switched to a performance all-season tire with the "M+S" rating. I ended up going with the Hankook Ventus tire. I realize it isn't an n-spec tire, but I have been relatively happy. I have about 25,000 miles on them now. They are starting to make some road noise, but the tread is holding up much better than the Continentals. If you are more interested in performance driving, I'd stick with softer rubber. I've heard good things about the Michilins, and they should last longer than the Pirellis. Performance driving :huh: ...I spent some time researching the Michelin's before I went with them...at $340 per tire, I wanted to make sure I was getting both performance and long life. Never considered the Contis, however, sounds like you did okay with them. My wife's 2008 S came with 255/55 Michelin Tour HP's from the factory. I drive one of the most intense sections of California highway from my home in Murrieta, to my office in the OC. OnCars.com tested the Cayman S on this highway. Believe me, this is a high performance tire highway...or you're drifting beyond the double yellow lines...check out the video: Cayman S Ortega Highway One of the benefits or owning a Porsche in Southern California...I'll enjoy the adrenalin rush at 6am tomorrow morning!   24. Well, time for my 3rd set of tires on my 04 S (only 33k on the odometer) I'm wondering what every else likes. I have had great luck with Pirelli's so far. They never seem to get out of balance or have any weird vibrations at high speed (yeah, I drive rather 'spirited'). I had the Snow/Ice then Pzero's. Both performed well and drove pretty good up to the end. Should I stick with PZero's or try Goodyears LS2, Michelin HP tour or Contis 4x4? Thanks for responding
