...well heard back from my local Porsche Center in Cardiff, UK and the comlpete X51 'Air Cleaner' costs £638 GBP and that doesn't include 'Air Box' (inlet pipe) or extra gasket for lid and X51 oil filler pipe. Cutting the lid seems no biggy with provided template but that oil filler pipe looks a right bugga to remove and change and I know someone on here mentioned about removing the alternator but that looks pretty complex for a D.I.Y.'er? They did mention some discout on the parts but not sure what type of gains are to be had just for fitting this alone without the engine mods. Had PSE installed after I took the car so enjouying the benefits of that already. Watch this space I guess... D

...hey ianwallwork so did you figure out if the X51 throttle body, box, oil filler tube, etc. were a direct fit to a non X51 997 C2S as I'd like some part numbers and get it ordered? Cheers Dean

Hey guys, Turns out my new Carrera S (997) doesn't have the short shift installed as sold!! Could just make out the part number on the cage when installing my new 997 Turbo gear knob and it matches the standard OEM, was always sceptical after having the short shifter for over a year in my wrecked Cayman S (same part number for all the Porsche's btw) and just thought it felt different so I'm going to order the part via Porsche and fit myself... Can anyone post this -> Workshop Manual '340819 Removing and installing gearshift bracket'. as the TSB for fitting refers to this and is pretty vague otherwise... obviously I've sussed the knob removal/replacement thing just don't want to miss any cable tweeks the above may refer to after the install! ;o) Cheers for any help Dean South Wales UK

PCM Firmware CD Updates - Where?

..it's the version with the nav DVD drive in the front trunk so must be PCM 2.1 so what you think, D.I.Y. software and ebay or expensive trip down to porsche? Cheers Dean Again, it will depend on the on both your hardware version and firmware version. It sounds like you have the newer hardware - so check you firmware version (described in the PCM manual) and then compare with the TSBs here. ..cool I'll take a look in the morning, compare and let you know, thanks for all your help! ..am I correct in thinking then that the "firmware update" CD's can only be purchased from Porsche (I'll pick the DVD up online)? Seems a fairly straightforward exercise tbh.. Dean -
Hi guys, Just picked up my 997S and didn't figure on it having out of date PCM!! Prepared to purchase a newer DVD off ebay but not the costs of Porsche to upgrade my firmware.. can anyone supply/email me images of the update CD's so I can attempt this myself? I'll contribute to this site and get the relevant TSB and have a crack and see if I can break it myself.. would just like later maps for Great Britain and TMC.. Any help would be awesome thanks!!
