  1. Not been on this site for years - just got back to Porsche ownership - 2011 Boxster S. Only done a few miles so far, but it looks and sounds great, especially compared with my diesel main car. The original owner ordered lots of options, but not everything I would prefer. So, I need to know if it's possible / easy / expensive to fit the following: 1) Ability to disable / enable the passenger airbag so a child seat can be fitted from time-to-time. Is it possible to fit an aftermarket switch? 2) The car has PCM 3 (with extended nav) but no bluetooth, aux or usb. Is there a way to upgrade PCM 3 or is it best to have an after market system fitted? (Odd that these were options when the actual components cost a few pence!) Thanks for your suggestions
  2. Hi, think I have the same problem. Has anyone had this replaced under warranty as Porsche UK are saying it's not a warranty part?
  3. I have a UK 2002 996 Targa and the car had developed a vibration and I'd like to know what people suggest to help me identify the cause and fix it. At all speeds, though naturally more noticeable at speed, a can feel a vibration throughout the car. It's not too severe but is noticeable through the wheel and can be felt through the seat when accelerating or at a constant speed. I had my wheels refurbished a few months ago and new rear tyres. The wheels have been balanced twice in the last month, once by the refurb co and by a separate company; interesting each company said it was out of balance and the other hadn’t done the balancing properly! I have 18” split rim sport design wheels. Has anyone heard of these being buckled during a refurb (they were split to do this)? Any ideas what is the most logical order to investigate further. without racking up too much cost? Does anyone live near south Cheshire and have a spare set of wheels I could fit and do a short test drive? Many thanks
  4. Do Porsche change the factory setting depending on which wheel and tyre combo they ship the car with? I have a 2002 Targa (UK) on the 18" sport design wheels but I guess the 996 was developed (and calibrated?) with 17" wheels and probably with a lower rolling radius. My speedo is just under 10% over reading at 100mph and over 10% at 30 mph against GPS. However my current GPS reads differently to my previous GPS (on the same car) so I guess some GPS chips may be out also - anyone else notivced this?
  5. I had a new clutch just after buying my 02 Targa. At first the clutch cable used to feel as though it was fowling somehwere and also on the last inch on travel the brake pedle would also move slightly in line with the clutch. A new release bearing made it perfect but I'd suggest if they have to do a new release bearing then you may as well have a new clutch as well.
  6. Doesn't make the noise on start up or tick over, just on a tick over rpm if reverse is selected or when on a very light throttle.
  7. Is this noise normal ... When I reverse my car - UK 2002 996 Targa - on a very light or no throttle, there engine makes a pretty noticeable rattling noise. If I use a modest throttle and when driving under normal and hard conditions it sounds great and gors fine. Also, my washer jets seem to have become rather pathetic over the past few weeks. Is there a common place to look for a fault / blockage before I start to remove the plastic work beneath the bonet and poke around? There doesn't seem to be anything fowling the nozzles. Thanks for any input.
  8. I bought my UK 2002 996 last Oct and fitted new P Zero Rosso's on the rear shortly afterwards. I check the pressure weekly and run at the suggested 44psi on the rear (285x35x18). I noticed the other day that the centre tread has worn to perhaps less than 3mm and the car isn't driven that hard, not tracked and only done 5k miles. Is this normal? The outer edges look to heave 5 - 6mm left I've heard that the Michelin Pilot Sports are better wearing. Anyone run with these and what do you think? Better than the Pirellis in the wet and dry; worth the extra, what's the best UK price for them? Also, would it be okay to run with Michelins on the rear and Pirellis on the front as the fronts have 6mm left - I'll probably change them in the winter? Thaanks
  9. Only had my car for a few months, I'm on the same size tyres and have just got a new set of P Zero Rosso's. The old rears had 2mm left and were terrible in the wet (always wet in the North West of England) so I was nervous about buying the same type of tyres but the new ones are awesome. Great grip, not too noisy and good in the wet.
  10. Thanks Loren, I'll have a look on Sat morning. Have a good weekend, JK
  11. I'm new to 911 ownership and love the car. I have two areas on which I'd appreciate your comments: 1) Engine flat spot If I’m on a gentle throttle with perhaps 2500 rpm and floor the accelerator the engine appears to have a flat spot before it gets going. My local Porsche dealer says that all 911’s are like this and it’s caused when the induction manifold changes length (at least that’s what I think he said). I wouldn’t expect a £60k (when new) car to have such a noticeable built in default. Is the dealer telling the truth? 2) Odd feel to the clutch and brake peddle Every now and again, if I come off the clutch and break peddles at the same time, the last 2cm of travel seems to judder both peddles, almost as though they’re being caught on something. I can’t see anything getting in the way such as loose carpet. Any ideas? Thanks for any help, JK 2002 Targa, UK, manual
