  1. We can send people to the moon, but I can't seem to get my depo fog leds to work with my brake leds on my 1999 Boxster. While there are several posts regarding....but I've yet to find it....or maybe it's just not possible????? Seems like it should be a simple mod???? Please see my post above......
  2. I'm trying to mod my DEPO tail lights such that both the Brake LEDs and Fog LEDs work together only when braking. When both LEDs are connected via modified wiring to the male bulb wires (no resistor installed), only the brake LEDs work. If I connect either the Brake LEDs OR Fog LEDs separately, they both work separately. What's really weird is if I connect both the brake LEDs and the Fog LEDS all back together again and only the Brake LEDs come on as before; if I disconnect one of the Fog LEDs wire (still not working), then reconnect the Fog LEDs wire back to the Brake LEDs wire again, then both the Brake and Fog LEDs work together. With power still on and both LEDs still working, if I turn off the ignition switch, then turn it back on, only the Brake LEDs comes back on (back to square one). I tried installing a resistor (25W, 6.2 Ohms) between all red and black wires inside of the DEPO taillight, neither the Brake LEDs or Fog LEDs work, but the resistor heats up as it should. Maybe I'm using the wrong resistor or installing it incorrectly as I feel it must be a voltage or amperage problem since when power is continuously applied without turning the ignition on and back off, both LEDs work together only when I connect then reconnect the wires together. Maybe turning the ignition on and off spikes the power load required to power both LEDs and allows only the Brake LEDs to come on? I considered wiring the Fog LEDs to the 3rd brake light, but was afraid my cruise control would stop working as they use the same fuse (B7), as I've read on here. Suggestions?
  3. I installed a Porsche OEM water pump today with ceramic impeller...fit great and turns well without any obstructions. Had bought an Autozone replacement drive belt (Dayco) which also didn't fit (too short), so from aftermarket water pump & belt drive aftermarket parts problems, decided to order a new belt from SunCoast....fit perfectly and works great. I've learned from this all the risks of using aftermarket Boxster products! Thanks all!! This is a great website for technical support!
  4. Anyone ever run into this? I just installed a new steering lock mechanism with an OEM replacemnt. All working well, except now I sporadically receive the key / door alarm for 4 or 5 seconds while driving, but repeats frequently. My local Porsche repairman was kind enough to return my call, but he had never heard of before....anyone ever? Anyone have a clue? Not that many electrical connections from replacement???? Thanks in Advance!
  5. Thanks to you all for the great advice for which I will heed. Ordering a new OEM water pump today....thanks again!
  6. My 1999 Boxster (90K miles) started leaking massive amounts of engine coolant. I removed the old water pump - WP (had plastic impellers and was original since metal gasket had to be cut) which had a failed shaft bearing determined by excessive shaft play once removed. I ordered an Ebay replacement water pump (Parts Master - China) that came with metal impellers. The replacement water pump fit up very well to the bolt holes and block and seemed identical to the old pump (except difference of impellers stated above). However after installing the new WP twice without the belt installed, the new metal impellers were striking the engine block, thus not allowing hand-turning of the WP, from one impeller to the next. I inspected the old plastic WP impellers and noticed that they had some wear mainly across the top of the impellers, but also some on the ends, although none were broken or mangled, only smooth wear. I also noticed some some smooth black plastic marks across approximately one/half of the round opening on the engine block where the old plastic impellers apparently wore some onto the block over time or maybe from WP bearing failure. After the new WP was removed after twice installing, I noticed scuff marks on the ends of several of the metal impellers from my attempting to hand-turn the installed new WP. I also noticed scuff marks on the engine block from the attempted hand-turns where the 2 flow seal 'posts' are located on the block. Question: Do you think that a slight filing the ends of the new metal impellers, until I can hand turn the water pump installed, without any restrictions, will correct this problem? I don't want to deposit metal filings into the coolant system, causing engine failure as I have read about here. Also, given the time I've spent resolving this, I've forgot where the 2 long WP bolts (out of the 7 total) go back...I think they go into the holes where the WP bolt holes has ferule extending out of 2 of the WP holes
  7. The driver's side seat heater on my 1999 Boxster stopped working. The switch light remains lit only as long as the switch is depressed and the seat does not heat. I took to my local Porsche dealer and they stated that the heating element was tested as shorted / bad. Repair to cost $500 to replace element. I'd like to fix myself for less $$. Any ideas for part locations and DIY repair procedures? Thanks in advance guys! JNC123
