  1. Thanks. I plan on doing little except swapping out the motor to a more powerful 3.8 x51 or 3.6 x51 like Todd Hollyoaks car. He really appears to be the grandfather of Boxster swaps. If I were Porsche, I would hire this guy for customer relations and engineering. Thank God somebody came along and showed us all how to upgrade a Boxster, such that it passes inspection,it has the perfect amount of power. Todd also showed most of us how to correctly make ths swap so that diagnostics remains intact and repairs can be made at any shop with Porsche Tester 2..... with regard to the transmissions, I am really impressed by how durable these old Tiptronics are, and I am glad that I have heard the feed back from everybody on here that I was hoping to hear. My experience has been nothing, but perfect. I plan on keeping my Boxster until my youngest son starts driving. Then, he can take care of it. I plan on keeping it in the family as long as possible. The family that races together, stays together. Anyway, I love this board and everybody in it that contributes to the issues posted. it really makes owning these cars fun, interesting, and helps me to get the right performance out of my car at a reasonable price. Thus, making ownership a real pleasure. I have seen guys do swaps, build BSR track cars, build GT track cars, received maintenance tips that I can perform, and received great tips with guys/gals who have learned through experience. that beats blowing your own car up to learn a lesson. Talk with you guys later. keep it on the road. Konrad K
  2. Hello fellow 986ers: I have a question: Can anybody tell me how their TIP-TRONIC transmission performed in BSR? I am contemplating making a BSR track car with a tiptronic. is this a good idea??? are there any specific allowable mods to make to the tiptronic to make it compete with the manual transmissions? any input on this subject is greatly appreciated. I have always had fantastic performance out of my automatic transmissions and the tiptronic in my 986 has always performed better than I have demanded of it....I welcome any ideas suggestions and opinions..... thanks, Konrad K
  3. Thanks sergiu. I assume that you did no upgrades to the transmission. Exactly what I wanted to hear. My tranny has had no problems except some slight flaring, but a fluid change, clean filter, and taking it manually through all 5 gears always makes it run awesome. A few times I have helped friends with their tiptronic by just changing fluid, new tranny filter, and taking it out for a spin, and filling it up until just a little bit of fluid comes through the over-flow. So, far it has worked every time. Hopefully, when I get my car back from the shop (putting on a new GT3 front end), I will start the new mods that I have been planning to do for over a year. I just hate not being able to drive it when its in the shop. Thanks for your reply. If you have any ideas you think I should try on my car let me know. I am always interested in other Boxster drivers' opinions. KK
  4. I have a 1998 Boxster with tiptronic. I would like to know what manufacturer makes the highest quality exhaust system for my car with tip....Also, I really have had no problems with my tiptronic and it shifts perfect at peak RPM every time. I am doing some work on the car to get it ready for some increased HP mods. Does anybody have any recommendations as to any modifications that I should make to the tiptronic so that it can handle the increased HP I plan on putting in the vehicle???? Also, what set up would you recommend that I make to the vehicle to give it substantial HP increase for track fun and daily driving on the highways here in LA..... PS: I am very glad to be part of this BLOG and a Boxster owner. My little red car has given my family and I lots of fun times. Every body gets to drive it, clean it, change the oil, trans fluid, filters, and make performance mod recommendations. This really give NEW MEANING to "FAMILY CAR." OK, give me your recommendations and don't be shy.... Thanks, KK
  5. Thanks for the welcome JFP....I love my car and really enjoy tinkering with it. I had no idea when I bought it how fun it would be...I am aware that money will buy you almost anything, but I don't waste money...I do the little things on my car and have my mechanic buddy help me with engine works. We will be upgrading this motor to a 3.6 or 3.8 and won't be breaking the bank...we already have a 3.6 and 3.8 ready to go....I am just trying to figure out what I am gonna drive for fun when the car is getting upgraded.....I think you could put a TT in these cars, but I am not about to lose my trunk space like some guys do...That is where I put my pizza to keep it warm when I get a thin crust to take home. I hope to see Tholyoak around, I love reading his swap postings. I have learned a lot from them...I guess its about time to pull out the ole 2.5. I plan on rebuilding it and keeping it well preserved for future transfer back into the car if so desired. You never know what people will want to buy in the future. 2.5s that nobody wants now may be all the rage when one of my kids has this old Boxster.....plus, the PCA events with the 2.5s are very interesting and very challenging for the drivers of these cars. I learn something new every time I go out to the track. I will be glad when our new 53 acre Porsche Center will be ready here in LA County in the city of Carson. It will have 7 premo tracks for working on driving skills....I hope to see you out there when it gets finished later on this year. again thank you for the warm welcome. I will see you out on the track, hopefully, soon KK
  6. I am curious as to why you didn't do the 3.6 swap like Tholyoak?? Also, is Tholyoak still around and does he do swaps for cash???? Oh, by the way, I am new to the 986 forum, but I have had by 986 for over a year and love it. Its just a stock 2.5 with a shift kit (TIP) and it is the funnest car I have ever driven....I laugh every time I get on the highway and drive from Long Beach to Downtown LA.....weeeeeee all the way down the 110.......I wreck this thing occasionally and rebuild it and it just comes back better than before....going to get it out of the shop, and I can't wait.......Hoping to do a big motor swap....Does anybody know if you can drop a 3.8 in a 1998 and use the standard 5 speed tiptronic???????? Thanks for any input.....I really proud to be a member of the 986 Forum..... Auf Duetsch
