My drivers' side headlight was replaced by the dealership after an accident. It has worked fine for two years since, but recently decided to stop working. I get a "check dipped beam" message on the cluster as a result. The turn signals work, as does a single little light on the outer side of the assembly. The main and high beam do not. After taking it out to inspect, I noticed that the electrical harness connector on the back was the problem. When I could force it into the headlights socket, the lights all powered up and worked fine, as did the high beam. So a poor connection is the culprit. One of the tabs on the side of the white connector was broken off, so the connector wiggles in its place. I imagine that the force of the headlight being pushed back wiggled it just enough that it wouldnt' seat into the headlight assembly. But getting that white connector into the socket and then back into its place without being able to get my hand in from the rear of the light was not apparent. I also noted that the insulation on all the wires was terribly frayed and coming off in my hands as I examined it. But with a new connector in hand, I don't see how to wiggle the old one out. It slides in from the side on the back of the tray holding the headlight assembly, but is blocked from sliding out all the way. How do I rectify this?
Hello Im working on a unique porsche project and as part of it im looking to use the current (>2016) generation 95B Macan LED HeadLights. What im looking for is the Wiring Diagram from the service manual program, so i can trace what needs to be connected to where relative to my 997.1 wiring harness. Yes, im aware this will be difficult. Im not looking to just plug and play. I already have all the wiring for the 997.1 and 997.2 cars (and a few others) Can anyone help Regards Logan Marriott
Hi - I am looking for some help. The headlights are the litronic ones. I don't drive the car very often - maybe once a month and often this is in the daylight. I had a headlight globe 'fail' about 12 months ago. I replaced it and everything seemed good. Then it stopped working. Then it started working. Then both headlights stopped working - some of the time. I am beginning to think that this is possibly not a globe problem. Any suggestions? Thanks, Derek
I am getting this, i think it is related to a fuse that is not working but i cannot find the fuse that covers that. i had other failures but electrically they have been fixed one by one, car was in a flood. ideas / suggestions?
Hi Everyone, I'm doing the 996 to 997 GT3-RS front conversion and need to re-pin the headlight connector as the 997 use A5 Pin instead of A4 as the 996 (for the High Beam) My question is how can I remove the pin from A4 and put it back in A5 ? How to re-pin the headlight connector ? I did a lot of search and didn't find anything specific on Porsche 996. Thanks Alex
I have been considering converting the halogen headlights on my 2003 Targa by installing a Morimoto Bi-Xenon HID projector. The facelift 996 models (post 2002) with halogen headlights, are fitted with a projector dip beam, mounted above a conventional reflector for main beam. Part number is 996.631.066.50. They are quite different to earlier 996 headlights. On first inspection the conversion appears a straightforward project - as the existing dip beam projector is bolted to a carrier fame inside the headlight, and is the same shape and just slightly larger than a Morimoto Mini 6.0 H1 HID projector, which is a popular, good value, retrofit projector with an outstanding beam pattern. All the headlight access is from the rear - there would be no difficult front cover removal with oven heating, no Dremel surgery. So - change out that halogen projector for the Morimoto, find a place to site the HID ballasts, sort out the wiring and you are good to go. Or are you? Why can't I find any reference to this particular conversion on the Web - someone must surely have tried it already? I think the answer is that rear headlamp access to the existing dip projector isn't as easy as it looks. The halogen headlight is made by Hella, and is well-engineered and substantially built. The headlight has a projector assembly for the dip beam (with an H7 bulb), and below that a half-circular reflector for a main beam conventional headlight fitted with an H9 bulb (in the UK). Inside the headlight, the H7 projector is a separate assembly, as is the H9 main beam reflector, and both are bolted to a single frame or carrier made of transparent yellow engineering plastic. This carrier engages with plastic ball joints at three points within the main headlight shell, with white nylon gear wheels and threaded rods to allow height and lateral positioning of the headlight beams from outside the headlight. Both dip and main beam adjust linked together. It appears that, in manufacture at Hella in Germany, the yellow frame carrying the dip projector and the main beam reflector is inserted from the rear of the headlight, after which the adjustment mechanisms for height and lateral position would be added behind the frame to the inside side of the headlight outer shell. These assemblies are in black plastic and include sliding tracks. It's not clear how these parts are secured to the inside of the main headlight shell - clipped or bonded. However - if these parts could be removed (to be re-installed later), the carrier frame could be moved out rearwards very easily, allowing the dip beam projector to be simply unbolted, and the Morimoto Mini 6.0 projector to be substituted, almost on the existing mounting holes. It's a perfect match for length as well. But if the adjustment sub-assemblies can't be shifted, the only way to mount the new projector will be by cutting off, in-situ, the back plate of the carrier frame, and then making up a replacement plate for the retrofit projector. No so straightforward. So - after this long intro - has anybody with a facelift 996 car and halogen headlights, tried this? Or has anybody attempted to dismantle that particular Hella headlight non-destructively, and can say how it all comes apart? I am really interested.
Hello everyone, Im the new owner of a 2004 Cayenne S. The headlights are always on day or night in auto mode. If I turn the switch to parking light they turn off but the dash lights up and The parking lights are on. In auto the dash stays off during the day but the headlights are on. Is this a Daytime running setting that can be turned off? I ask because I want to install LED lights as DRLs and would hate to have the headlights on as well. Would look funny that way. Hi, I've searched the forum and couldn't find an answer and am posting here for your help. Let me know if this isn't the right place for this question. I'm searching for my first 911 and am confused about the headlights. On one 911 targa (2002) the options sticker does not list Litronic headlights but the owner and ppi shop said it does. Another 2002 targa lists the option on the sticker. Do some 2002s have Litronic/bi-xenon headlights as standard equipment? Regards, Mike
Hi, My first post as a 4 day old Porsche owner... as in I've owned it for 4 days...Im not a 4 day old who owns a Porsche!! Anyway still getting to grips with it all & still making discoveries! My first issue to be resolved is with the headlight: A part of the headlight had become detached, its a plastic cover with 2 clips. It doesn't seam to effect the headlights performance in any way & does not make any noticeable noise when driving however doesn't make the light look to great & I'm sure it should be doing something as Bosch put it there in the first place. My question is 1st has anyone else come across this & 2nd how can it be fixed. Ive had the light out & tried reaching it through the bulb holes but don't think theres much chance. Can anyone tell me how to remove the headlight switch on my 2005 CTT. I read you push in and turn counter clockwise, and it pops out. That does not seem to work. Any thoughts.
Hello to all, I am looking for a part for my right headlight. It's the plastic chrome looking oval plug that sits in the middle of a 2002 911 headlight assembly. It snaps in and out easily, but, the plastic prongs on the back of mine broke. I've attached a few pix to show what I'm talking about. It is stamped as part number 153 034-00, however, that doesn't seem to come up with anything when I search. I've made some calls and people seem to only want to sell this piece with the entire headlight assembly--which is obviously a pricey fix. Does anyone know the name of this piece? Does anyone know where to find a replacement? Thanks in advance! DK
Hi. How do I test the main light switch and the low/high lever switch to determine which has a problem. The headlights low and high beams do not work on either side.
Hi. My Porsche Targa Xenon (Litronic) headlights low and high beam (both sides) do not energize when install on the fenders bay. Both assemblies were removed and energized using an external 12v battery connected as follows: -for high beam: headlight assembly port 4 (+ve batt terminal) and port 6 (-ve batt terminal) [** the wiring diagram shows the port 12 as -ve but on the headlight assemblies were connected on port 6]. -for low beam: headlight assembly port 11 (+ve batt terminal) and assembly port 12 (-ve batt terminal). Voltages, fuses, ground and cables continuity were checked. Voltage at the headlight fender connectors were 12.5 volt at Low beam: port 11 as +ve and port 12 as -ve. High beam: port 4 as +ve and port 6 as -ve. The assemblies were connected (off the fender bay - were not installed). As soon as the +ve cable was connected from the fender connnector (using a jumper) to the port 4 on the assembly a drop on voltage occurs as if as ground as present. This did not happen when the assemblies were connected to the external 12v battery. Any ideas?
My Porsche Targa has electric problem with the high low beams. I have checked the fuses, the voltage to the +ve terminal for the fuses w/o the fuse in place, the continuity of the -ve terminal of the fuses to the headlight assembly female connector at the car frame, the voltages on the female connector with the light switch on and light (high/low) level nd the ground continuity from the 1-12 ports on the female connector at the car frame to the main ground. The problem with the power to the low or high beam continue. I need the wiring diagram for this car to solve the problem or if someone know a web page tha t can give me some ideas. Thanks.
I have ordered this part (999 650 150 40) it is the blue connector that plugs into the headlight unit, it is clipped to the headlight undertray, does thid part include the short harness that plugs to a body mounted connector inside the trunk ? If it is just the blue plastic plug as I suspect from the price how is the old connector remoded and the new one installed on the short harness ?
I'm replacing both plastic headlight brackets (the whole thing) on a 1999 911 Carrera, due to broken brackets where the electrical socket sits. These are the plastic mounts where the headlights slide into. I'm just trying to figure out if there's some trick to getting these things lined up right. The three (3) knurled nuts, washers, star bolts just kind of wiggle around in the slots in the metal fender part. I keep loosing up, re-adjusting, and tightening them down but haven't got the headlights to line up with the fender opening quite right. Figured I'd ask before I did too much hair pulling. There's got to be an easier method. Thanks
