  1. We just had the convertible top on our 1999 996 Cab replaced. (Top was from AutoTop - BTW, fine construction, with glass rear window -- highly recommend it.) However, the installers (one of the supposedly "top" top installers in the area - Young's, for those of you in the Norfolk area) determined that the new top's zipper for the headliner was installed backwards -- so they simply removed the headliner and went ahead with the top installation. I'm feeling like they took me for a dummy and figured I'd shaddup and go away. Well, after a simple call to AutoTop, it turns out that the "top" top installer was dead wrong -- they simply did not realize HOW to work the zipper. Unfortunately, the technician never came out to explain to me in person; instead, there was always the protective interface of the front desk girl, or the excessively exuberant store owner. I should have recognized this common trick. Which all leads me to this question: IS IT POSSIBLE FOR ME TO INSTALL THAT HEADLINER MYSELF, OR WILL THIS INVOLVE HAVING TO REMOVE THE NEW TOP AGAIN, WITH ALL THE PURPORTED DIFFICULTIES REQUIRING AN EXPERT INSTALLER? I'd prefer to fix it myself, rather than go thru the confrontation that is sure to follow. I'm a psychologist of sorts, and I can already predict the reaction the installer will have when I dare to challenge him. The factor of "losing face" will override any desire to admit a mistake any day of the year. Any help, directions, past experiences, would be appreciated. Thanks.
  2. My 2011 Cayenne S has possible sunroof drain leaks. I wanna remove the headliner and address the tubes. Any instructions on taking down the headliner? FYI, I have cleaned out the drains in the wheel arches. Also drained the water in the frame under the sills. No more sloshing sound. Thanks. Roch
  3. Greetings guys. We've had a pretty substantial amount of rain here in PA today. When I had my Porker out to run some errands I noticed that there was some water dripping from my headliner at the back of the headliner. After I got home, I dried off the roof of the car to have a look around. For the most part, the sunroof tray wasn't too drenched. But, when I poured a small bit of water down the back of the sunroof to see if the drains were blocked, an interesting thing happened. Some water came out the drains properly, and some stayed in, wetting the headliner some more. I assume that I'll have to pull the headliner out to adequately check and repair the problem (I'm assuming either partially blocked, clogged, or damaged drain tubes. That said, I've searched high & low to find some instructions or info about how to pull the headliner so I can get eyes on the problem. Unfortunately, I've come up with nothing. Ideally, I could just disconnect the rear portion of the headliner and get this taken care of. Any ideas, or photos or how-tos that anyone could point me towards? I don't like the idea of a leaky roof and I really don't want any problems that could arise as a result... Thanks Much Eric

Hi, i apologise for being a lurker and not really ever posting since i joined; but i have a serious issue right now :^( ive been DIYing most stuff for my car - pioneer nav - footwell lighting - seatbelt replacement - o2 sensor replacement etc etc. but this has me absolutely stumped. a few weeks ago the interior trim / lining of the sun roof came off while the sun roof was open. it basically got stuck above the headliner in the car; so after i closed the sunroof, i wasnt able to ever open it fully again. i tried to tackle this problem today and one problem led to another and this whole sunroof thing has me so frustrated. Basically where it stands now is; ive removed the entire ceiling of the car - center consol, headliner, sunroof, sunroof interior trim, motor, rails.. EVERYTHING, the reason for this was because after i unscrewed the sunroof pannel and removed it, the sunroof rails were not doing anything when i pressed buttons. i though there was something stuck in the tracks at first, but couldnt find anything. then i took out the motor to see wht was up and realized that the close button doesnt work but the vent button and the sunroof forward button do. they only turn the gears a few rotations before stopping. obviously because my roof is in the most extended positon (open) the motor only clicks and doesnt do anything when i press buttons; so i removed the motor to find that it can only rotate in one direction. what do i do??? i think its the **** programed circuit (the one with the NEC chip on it) thats got the problem. Any way to reset it; or to let the circuit know that the sunroof is already in the vent position and it needs to stop trying to make it vent more? p.s i broke the mechanism that lets me manually crank the sunroof lol. so thats not an option. ahhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!! any help is appreciated, or even a service manual that tells me how the hell i re-build the sunroof. p.p.s my possible diagnostics: something stuck in tracks the computer that tells the sunroof what to do is wonky the close button is broken motor for some reason only turns one way pleaase help with solutions, or a service manual to show me what to do :(
