  1. Since I bought my Boxster the key-fob never worked, so my usual practice is to put my key into the cylinder and turn it to unlock. So this week, I did the procedure I've done hundreds of times, when after opening, the resistance I've always felt while turning the lock disappeared! I could now turn the key left and right, a full 180 degrees without any resistance. No movement in the door latch. And yet, when I roll the car down the driveway, the door locks do engage and so does the latch. Something mechanical must have slipped off the cylinder assembly, and I know I'll have to take the door apart to find out, I'm wondering if anyone has had the same situation and what they've done to fix it.   2. Just wanted to say thanks to the community helped answer some questions about the scoring on my 2008 CTT 957. My next question is, does anyone know where I may purchase a complete engine seals and gasket kit for a 2008 Cayenne Turbo? Or if these are unavailable as a whole unit, had anyone rebuilt their engine from the cylinder scoring or something similar and have a parts list of required seals and gaskets which need changed? Additionally, are there any other suggestions on parts that I should change some I'll have the motor apart? Anything would help at this point. Thanks
  3. Hi! I have a 2010 Panamera 4.8l tt that I bought because it had a water damaged engine. Tear down is complete, and I have the parts that need machining at Patterson Elite (http://www.patterson-elite.com). Although I just dropped the parts off today, by this afternoon Todd Patterson had a challenge for me. The block is one solid piece of aluminum (so it seems), therefore the cylinder walls are aluminum and do not appear to be sleeved currently. The water damage bent a rod and the result was a scored cylinder, so the challenge is...how do we machine this cylinder? It seems if we follow the standard boring process, when the new pistons and rings go in, the rings will severely score the newly machined cylinder. Does anyone have any idea how they built these cylinders at the factory and if this engine can even be machined? Thanks!
  4. I've read a couple of posts describing other's experiences with engine failure. My 02 C4 Cab engine lost power, sent lots of smoke out the back and then went silent while in the center lane of 405 south out of Bellevue on a Friday afternoon; just lovely. I had the car on the side of the road, engine off in about 30 seconds. Quick check at Chris's German and there's water in the cylinders. Seems not to matter if cylinder wall crack or other source, an engine rebuild and/or replace seems only course of action. Given the cost of a factory swap estimated at $36K with refund (~$16k) for core or LN Engineering 3.8 conversion for $15K to $20K the economics just seem out of balance. I'm looking for lower cost options like a used engine or just sell the car as-is. Any members have experience with engine replacements or selling a car with an engine in need of rebuild?
