  1. Hello. Great site. I recently purchased a 04 996 AE with 113K. My OBD showed random misfires. I checked the plugs and coils. Coils were cracked so I replaced all plugs and coils. The plug condition was consistent across all cylinders... ash gray color and no pitting or carbon or oily plugs. The misfire codes returned and I noticed the idle is rough but the engine pulls and is smooth off idle and through the rev range. I purchase the Durametric and I ran actual values (codes showed random misfires across most cylinders) the check engine light came on at one point but had gone away on it's one while waiting for my cable to arrive. My problem is I have lots of data to look at but no way to understand or to translate it into actionable information. I am not even sure that I captured the right parameters for my misfire error codes. Is there a good place to look at what the actual values should be for a 996? or a link to any tutorials on how to read the data and translate that into a what to check or troubleshoot? Any advice would be greatly appreciated and thoroughly utilized.
  2. Hi, My 99 996 has started beeping twice when I press the key fob. It locks and then immediately unlocks. Also when opening the drivers side door, the window goes down when handle is pulled but goes straight back up when the handle is released. So the window obstructs the door closing. I have the following Durametric Alarm errors: 11 Voltage failure during alarm output Status: not present Frequency counter: 1 10 Voltage failure at terminal 30 with alarm system active Status: not present Frequency counter: 1 46 Control locking synchronization Status: not present Frequency counter: 2 49 K lead Status: not present Frequency counter: 1 21 W lead (DME immobilizer) Status: not present Frequency counter: 1 What's the best way to proceed with fixing this?   3. 2010 Carrera S 6M Cab 150k miles TLDR: Dealer tells me the code is 2402 and Durametric returns 0024 with a description that matches the dealer. I am getting screwey values when I look up actual values. I try to clear codes and they don't seem to clear. Has anyone else seen this? I got CEL after about 1000 miles after replacing the catalytic converters myself. I pulled the codes with my Durametric and got: 0024 - DMTL Diagnosis module for tank leakage; pump drive rUpper limit exceeded 0010 - Intake camshaft driver I took it to Porsche because I wrongly figured this was related to my cats. They pulled the codes and said the car was throwing 2402 and that the 0010 was in the system but had been there for a long time and was not relevant. Now I had cleared that 0010 about a half dozen times so I thought it was fresh. It did not register at the time, but that means my reset did not work. They said that it would cost $1,100 to replace the DM-TL and filter. It was very likely the right thing to do because they tried to actuate it and it would not spin. As I have dropped about $14k on my Porsche habit in the last 30 months and my wife has had about enough of this, I paid the diagnostic fee and replace the parts myself (saving about $700). Now my Durametric is still pulling the same codes plus a new one: 0014 which it says is No signal/communication That code, like the 0024, is not in my copy of the Porsche 997 essential companion. So when went to look at live values relevant to the DM-TL the Durametric was putting in some weird results. Percents or bars when the units should have been seconds. Background: DM-TL is a complicated pump/sensor that determines that there are no leaks in the gas fume recycling system. It pulls low amps if there is a leak, so a high value means there is a problem with the pump or maybe a short.
  4. I had to disconnect the passenger side door airbag as part of door panel removal, to replace the door lock mechanism. To check that I replaced the part correctly, I reconnected the battery and turned the ignition key, and got an "Airbag Failure" warning. The fault didn't clear even after disconnecting the battery, reconnecting the airbag and closing up the door panel, and reconnecting the battery. I confirmed the airbag was reconnected. I suspect that it may be a "latched' fault that can only be cleared via the Durametric tool - thoughts?

  6. I'm unable to connect to the engine module on my '09 Cayenne with my new Durametric cable. I called tech support for an assist and was told that they are still working on coding to allow for connecting the 957 to the engine module. The Durametric website does list the MED9 for V6 as being available for reading/clearing codes. Wondering if anyone else has found a way to get this to work. I'm using version 6 software.
  7. I was clearing codes and the Durametric seems to have hung at the air conditioner. (that is where a fault was) Is pressing cancel an option (I am obviously a noob)
  8. My car is a 2005 911 base model 997. I had a tune installed and am having some issues with it. I only had the tune done because I put high flow cats on the car and had a stumble. The tune company is wanting a data log with the following actual values. 1. Engine RPM > 2. Injection Time/Injection PW > 3. Ignition Angle > 4. Pedal Position > 5. Actual Throttle Plate Angle > 6.Actual Lambda Value Bank 1 > 7. Mean Fuel Trim Bank 1 > 8. Actual Lambda Value Bank 2 > 9. Mean Fuel Trim Bank 2 I started out trying to get this done with Durametric. The first obstacle I ran into was Durametric did not have compatibility with the variant on my ECU. I called their support and they were able to quickly get this resolved. The problem that I have now is that I don't have any actual values for the Actual Lamda Value for Bank 1 or Bank 2. Durametric basically told me that they have nothing to do with the values and if its not in there they can't help me. The following is all the Actual Values in Durametric that I have to choose from. 1. AC pressure 2. Actual Camshaft angle bank 1 3. Actual Camshaft angle bank 2 4. Actual throttle plate angle 5. I also have a few phone apps like Torque Pro, OBDdoctor pro, and OBDLink. The problem I am having is they have several Lambda PID's to choose from and am not sure witch ones to use. If anyone has suggestions it would be greatly appreciated. even if the solution is using a totally different data logger.
  9. Greetings, Need some help diagnosing to fault codes in my ECM Module. 2005 Porsche 997 Carrera S Cab U0155: Lost communication with Instrument Cluster Control Cluster. U0146: Lost communication with "Gateway A" Searching Google only found two other Porsches with the same issue and they were undiagnosed. Now searching those faults individually found other vehicles had those faults when cracks developed in the Instrument Cluster solder joints, people disassembled their Instrument Clusters, resoldered all the joints and the fault went away. Has anyone else had these faults or experience with them. I recently relocated from Arizona with glass smooth roads to the Los Angeles area and the roads are horrible!!! Just in the last 3-weeks my drivers door lock assembly failed and window goes up and down like crazy and difficult to lock door, I believe this failed due to the rough roads, these faults also developed at the same time, which leans me towards cracked solder joints in the Insteument Cluster.   10. Hey guys, So I'm having this issue that is driving me crazy. My SAI (Secondary AIr Injection) and Oxygen Sensor are not reaching "Ready Status" A little background about my car. 2006 Boxster S 3.2L FVD Exhaust system GMS Headers with 200 cell cats - has all 4 O2 sensors attached. 996 throttle body and distribution hose ECU Tuning Group tune I had the car up in BC Canada since 2009 (although it is a US car) and had no problems passing the sniffer and obdII tests - both before and after all the mods except for the ECU tune. I went to get my emissions testing done last week in Texas and failed due to the 2 systems being in not-ready status. I figured it might have to do with the cat delete (ROW) configured in the tune. I sent my ECU back to ETG in California and had them re-flash my ECU in order to re-enable the O2 sensors. I cleared all codes and figured I would start fresh. I drove the car about 120 miles and attempted to follow the drive cycle mentioned in the forums but it was really tough with the roads out here. Everything is in ready status except for the SAI, and the O2 sensor. I can manually start the SAI using the Durametric system so I would believe the pump is not bad; however, I'm not sure that I"m hearing the SAI start up when I cold start the engine. For testing purposes I unplugged my O2 sensors from both bank1 and bank2 and they both threw fault codes which confirms that the ECU tune re-activated my sensors. I've uploaded a few pictures with the results from a OBDII app as well as the Durametric Software to my Google Drive.   12. Hey everyone, my name is Danny King I am the owner of P3 Autokrafte I Dayton Ohio. Is anyone on this forum familiar with K line and L line communication on the 993? In the shop we have a 1997 Cabriolet that was brought in for a horn support. Very common problem right? During the course of the repair I tested the horn with the airbag off just to verify function. Of course this set the airbag light which I knew would happen so I plugged in the PST 2 to clear it. To my surprise I could not communicate with the airbag module upon further investigation I found I could not communicate with any module in the car. Of course the car has Drive block and no matter what I do with Drive Blok it does not seem to matter I still cannot communicate. So I have no communication to DME,climate contro, abs, or airbag. At the OBD2 connector pen1 is voltage and pin 16 is voltage 10 four and five are ground and pin 7 is the K line pin 15 is the L line. Power and ground are present on the associated pins where it should be. Some wiring checks have been done on the K like and L line circuits and no problems have been detected yet we still have no communication. All I want to do is reset the airbag light. And the airbag module only has K line communication going to pin 9 of the airbag module. I have isolated the K line wire and substituted my own K line wire with a fabricated obd2 harness to allow me to bypass the car's wiring and go straight to the airbag module K line but still no communication. Other than pin 9 the rest of the vehicle harness is still plugged into the airbag module. If anyone here is familiar with scan tool communication requirements and K line communication requirements on a 993 please help. Thanks, Danny

  14. I posted this on the MacanForum, and it was suggested that I ask the very knowledgeable people over here. I tried a search, but couldn't quite find what I was looking for. I'm trying to decide between the PIWIS Tester II from http://www.uobd2.net/ and the Durametric. Apparently the Durametric will not reset the electronic parking brake for service, and some have said on other Porsche forums that the PIWIS Tester II can do much more. For those that know or have done research in the past, or have owned one of these, does the Piwis Tester II absolutely require up-dates to work, or just when you want to access other features? Do these Chinese products work at all? I'm hoping it will be able adjust the level reading of the Oil Level display (mine's off, and the dealership says they can't do it), show the fill level when changing oil, as well as allow servicing the rear electronic parking brake. Since uobd2.net is a Chinese company, I'm not sure how trustworthy they are in giving accurate information about their products. Any one here have the PIWIS Tester II or at least tried it? It's about 3 times more expensive than the basic Durametric, but if it can at least reliably do a few more things, I thought it might be worth it. Any other opinions?
  15. Ok, so here's the story. AC was working perfect. Out of the blue, zzzzzz no air. Nothing! Just dead :drive:. Durametric Pro says typical code 353: "Feedback from blower regulator front, value below lower limit value" Battery was replaced as it was giving me a hard time... It was replaced 2 days ago... There's no voltage to the plug that goes to the blower... No voltage to the blower blue regulator behind the glove box [plug with dual wires brown and black]... Fuses are all perfect on the engine bay, right side, left side and even I checked the ones under the driver's seat that I didn't know there was a 40A and a 5A fuses when the battery was replaced. Curious thing is that I tested voltage delivered to fuse 57 and it was 10.38 volts.... All these tests were performed with the Cayenne running and AC fan at all different speeds. I think I made a so far good troubleshooting but, don't know where else to look... I also checked the wiring diagrams, but feel kind of lost -_- . I also made a search here at :renntech: but not as far as I have gone in the troubleshooting... Any more ideas? :help: :lightbulb: :thankyou:
  16. Hello, I am new to renntech.org and hope I am posting in the correct area. I recently acquired a 2001 boxster 2.7L with the tiptronic. Once my car gets up to temp the "D" and "4" begin to flash in an alternating pattern. The shifting or driving characteristics do not change and no CEL light appears. I have read many threads on this topic as to what could be causing it. The flashing lights typically do not last very long. I am trying to figure out how to check for any tiptronic codes it may have. I have a wireless scan tool I use with my iPhone (dash command app). I do not believe this method will allow me to read any tiptronic codes if any. My questions are: 1. If I have the flashing "D" and "4", shouldn't it give a code? 2. Is there any tools out their that will read such codes or do I need access to a Durametric tool? 3. Any other advice would be appreciated. Thank you, Chris
  17. Hello. So I have posted here on renntech before about Cayenne S operating temps with no final fix for that issue. I recently had the joy of having a msg when I shut off the car saying "move selector lever to position 'P' " The indicator lights on the gear shift where it is iluminated the selected mode " P,R,N,D. The light moved as i cycle trough but alwas there is a light in D even though the lever is in P and there also light in P. Have anyone experienced this before and knows how to fix this ?? I also pulled up a few codes with durametric today and it would be great if anyone could shed some lights on those for me since im not very mechanic. Thanks

Plugged it in and the following fault codes came up. 0003- Upper Limit Value Exceeded 0103- Value Below Lower Limit Value 0303- Value Below Lower Limit Value Truck is a 2008 Cayenne S. 64,000 Miles.   19. Hi, I just started using the durametric enthusiast version. I have a 997.1 (2006). I have 2 questions related to the software that I could not find answers for in the forum: 1. I am trying to read the actual stft and ltft values while engine is IDLE but I'm not sure which parameter to read as I cannot find a label including stft or ltft. On the other hand, in the frozen data of my error code I can see stft and ltft for both banks but I need actual values. Thanks for your help! 2. Depending on which actual value I want to read, if I select more than one, all stop being displayed/recorded. Is that a known bug or a misuse from my part? Thank you! J
  20. My 2002 turbo tiptronic occasionally almost stalls when coming to a stop while it's warming up. It dips down to 500rpm or so, maybe even less, but it then bounces back up and keeps running. It stalled on me completely a couple times, but that stopped once i replaced the air filter. I've tried cleaning the MAF, and I *think* that it helps, but i can't convince myself that the MAF is the problem because it's rather intermittent. Either way, other symptoms would kinda go along with a bad MAF, such as occasional rough idle, when i let off the accelerator and than step back on it it sort of burps(?) Anyway, does anyone know if this sounds like a dying MAF or not? I don't have any CEL's, but I know it's possible for the MAF to be on the way out without hitting those. I'd try driving without the MAF plugged in, but the symptoms aren't constant, so it'd be hard to prove anything. Thanks!
  21. Greetings Renntech members. I'm new to Renntech and Porsche. I recently purchased a 1999 Carrera 996 (36K miles) and the alarm system has never worked correctly. I did not know that a single horn beep after remote locking was not normal until I had a chance to read the manual. (My American cars normally beep once after remote lock.) Symptoms: After remote locking the car the horn beeps once and then the dashboard LED goes into 2-flash mode, which I understand means one or more issues exist. I bought the Durametrics unit and hooked it up. This is where I'm getting confused. No fault conditions exist under the Alarm section. When I go into the Inputs mode, where one can view in near real-time the status of manual inputs to the Alarm System Module, only one input responds to physical changes: the internal lock switch near the radio does cause one of the display inputs to toggle. However I can open/close the trunk, hood, driver's door, and passenger's door but see no changes to any display input. I pulled the trunk and hood micro-switches and both are working correctly (open when trunk/hood is closed and closed when trunk/hood is open). The windows in both doors behave correctly (i.e. window drops 10 mm when open, stays down while open, and then moves back up 10 mm when door is closed). And everything else on the car works perfect. If I leave the trunk, hood, or passenger door open (on purpose) and remotely lock the car, the alarm system behaves the same (single horn beep and double flash on the LED), so it is clearly not recognizing these fault conditions. It is only when I leave the driver's door open on purpose does the alarm system respond: beeps once and does not activate the alarm system. I understand that the Durametrics system is not perfect so I'm wondering what you guys think. Are all the large number of non-responsive inputs in the Durametrics software just a "limitation" of the Durametrics hardware/software or should I be suspecting that my Alarm Control Module is bad? If the Durametrics software does have limitations, then I may attempt to open up the doors and manually test all those switches, as well as the passenger sensor, but I don't want to go there if I don't have to. Any advice you can offer would be greatly appreciated. Great website and great car!
  22. I have a 98 Boxster that started showing the Check Engine Light. Check Engine Light came on and the codes for the Durametirc software were P1125 Oxygen sensing range 1 Cylinder (4-6) and P1123 Oxygen sensing range 1 Cylinder (1-3). I cleared the codes using Durametric Diagnostic Software and no check engine light appeared. The other day the check engine light came on so I decided to check the fuel pressure. I activated the fuel pump through the Durametric Software and the reading was 52 psi.Also, here is another caveat which may or may not have something to do with the Check Engine Light. When using the Durametric Software it only allows me to access the Engine Option for ME5.2.2 for 1997-1999 which is fine. However, it won't allow me to access any other options like the ABS/DSC/PSM 5.3 for 1997-2001 or the Instrument Cluster K01 for 1997-2000 and it always tells me the cable is unplugged (even though it is not and the green light is on) for the Airbag, Air Conditioning, Alarm, etc.I sent my cable back to Durametrics and they checked it and said it was something to do with my wiring. Any suggesstions about fixing the oxygen sensing issue or troubleshooting the other issue so I canuse the software?
  23. Hey guys, Got my Durametric in hand finally. Plugged in to my 99 C2 to diagnose my airbag light. All I get is "code 0" module failed to initialize. Am I missing some step to accessing the airbag unit? Can durametric not help me on my 99? Off to read some help files/the manual :) thoughts? thanks!
  24. I use Durametric for my Porsche and I am trying to firure out if I can use the same cable on my BMW to chase down a CEL. I tried it last night with no success using CarSoft software for BMW as well as the Durametric. If anyone has any experience getting cross functionality between vehicles using the same cable I would be greatly interested. I don't necessarily need full functionality and visibility of all "hidden" codes, just the basics at this point. Since CEL is on, it should be a code that any generic OBD2 scanner/software can read. I assume the Durametric cable has the same pin connection configuration for the basic code readouts. Since I've already spent the $250+ on the Durametric Enthusiast cable/software it just seems reasonable that I could get some readouts on a BMW using the same stuff without having to drop another $250+ for something that is BMW specific.   25. Hey guys, looking for some insights. I am aware of a number of different reputable OBD scanners on the market that will give me streaming values for less than half the price of Durametric. Since I have a very early year car what are the capabilities of the durametric scanner vs others? According to their website the first year Motronic has lesser capabilities? I will be buying a scanner with streaming capabilities but want to know if the porsche specific development is worth the money? All i need is diagnostic capabilities. cheers!
