Windshield Microswitch

Recommended Posts

hey dan,

as i posted in my thread "windows going up on their own", i think your suggestion to check the door lock switch solved my problem. just to have the same info on this thread, here's what i did.

i took dan's suggestion to check the door lock switch. since i drive my boxster for pleasure only, i hardly lock my car and i never used the "hold down the key" method to lock/open my windows. so i thought i would just exercise that switch to see if it may be sticky or something. i turned it both directions about 10 times, each time holding it down. i did that on both doors, they both have the same feature.

well, i am happy to report that after that exercise, my windows are not coming up on their own anymore. it's been a couple of days, the problem would have came up by now. i guest a word of advise is to exercise that switch once in a while to prevent what happened to me.

thanks again dan. you saved me some time and $ from not repairing/replacing the windshield microswitch.

later.

I just wanted to say thanks for this tip! After removing and testing the dash switch, relay aka "Control Module", and handbrake microswitch, I pulled out this assembly containing two switches. Wouldn't you know... it tests fine with a multimeter as well! On the off chance that the solder connections had failed despite looking and testing fine, I heated up the solder connections and applied some additional solder. That did it! The top works perfectly again!

Thanks for this advice, Dan. You saved the day, and my dad thinks I'm a genius for solving this problem. I'm just the guy who listened to good advice and owns a soldering iron. ;)

It's one relay but it's the big one that has 2 sets of pins. It typically black with a white or blue dot on it. I don't have a photo handy or I'd post it for you.

Found that, it's the biggiest relay I have ever seen in a car :) I will get it changed.

Unfortunately the roof just stoped working, can't open it, brake light on, window drops down when the hook is opened. Must be in the same department - relay.

Also what are those 2 things just next to the back/roof drain pipes. It has 2 wires coming out, are these some switchis too? Could that be a problem?

YOu can somtime smack that relay into shape. Take it out and give it a few good waps on the ground. Didn't work forme but I took it aprt and did some micro surgery...works now.
