01 996 tt Pre Purchase Inspection

Recommended Posts

I just had a recommended mechanic do a pre purchase inspection on a 2001 996 TT tip with 41,000 miles, and he came back with some concerns and wanted to get some feedback.

1. ABS code 5525 control unit code? - they reset it but didnt have an idea what had caused it to trip

2. Transmission/Differential is leaking from front area of transaxle. leak will drip when fluid is warm/ Trans is fully wet around the area (the dealer says this is normal for any porsche to leak some?)

3. Engine Noise - from the counter shaft area at rear of engine, Cold is noticeable at idle - warm is noticeable at idle and above idle. (Dealer also says this is normal for TT and I have read that this might be the case - but my mechanic said the noise is excessive, but I dont notice it unless I really try to hear it.

What is the verdict - who is right? :censored:

If I where you I would try to listten to another 01 996TT and see if it sounds the same. A couple would be even better. Where are you loacted I own an 01 996TT tip and if you are local to Souther California I have no problem if you wanted to listten to my car. My car is coming up on 30k miles so it's about 10k miles lower than the car youare looking at but that should not be a big deal.

1. Fault code 5525 -- Torque transmission from the DME disturbed at times

I have seen this on almost every TT I have looked at. I think it is normal for the power/wheel slip the car has.

2. No Porsche leaks "normally" - period.

3. Really have to hear that one to be sure.

Did they tell you what the DME had for stage 1 and stage 2 over revs?

Stage 2 are the bad ones - should be a very low number or zero.
