Radar Detector Audio thru Stock CDR220?

Recommended Posts

Has anyone explored the possibility of using the "telephone" function on the Head Unit (stereo) to amplify the volume of a radar detector? I just installed an Escort/Passport SR7 with a line out for an external powered speaker and would like to increase the volume.

I don't know how the HU processes the incomming signal from the phone. Does it need to be set at the telephone function for each call (PITA), or does it automatically ring the phone thru the speakers, mute the HU, and then permit the phone conversation once the phone is answered? If the later, then the radar detector audio signal would act as the phone "ring" and you would be able to hear the warning even with the top down on the highway.

I do know the max input to the HU is 8 vdc, and I believe the SR7 output is un amplified.

Any input or experience would be appreciated, before I start experimenting and risk a rather expensive melt down.
