new guy trying to get up to speed

Recommended Posts

Hello to All:

Just purchased a beautiful, low mileage 2002 996 C2. I don't want to open a can of worms, but I have done my homework diligently searching the archives for option info. My car seems to be heavily optioned (good) and I had a dealer run a "cardex" with Porsche N.A. listing all it's options. Most I know and have matched up,some are not on the trunklid card, some are not listed in either place. Maybe some of the stuff came in option groups. There is one thing it says is there that I don't seem to have:

P04: sport package 6-speed plus PASM

I'd love to have it,but I don't see any switches for PASM. If P04 is what it says it is,could I have it and not know it?

I don't want to bore anyone with a list of what matches, but this stands out in the "no gots".

P.S. It says it has 476- Porsche Stability Mgt. also.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Thanks,Duke

Your car has PSM not PASM. PASM did not come out until MY2005.

Option M476 is PSM.

Here is Porsche's glossary description of PSM

Porsche Stability Management - A highly sophisticated dynamic control technology designed to stabilize the car in an extreme situation by intervening in the engine management and brake systems. Wheel, brake, engine and steering data are compared to a skid sensor's reading of the vehicle's slip angle and rate. To ensure the car maintains an ideal cornering line, brake pressure is applied to individual wheels, engine output is regulated and, with the Tiptronic S transmission, even shift parameters are adjusted.

When PSM engages, does an orange/red PSM light flash on the dash? I think I felt some braking the other day as I went down a winding road in a tight turn. I think it kicked in but did not see the flashing light on the dash. Just curious.
