Hello Guys !!!!

I'm in the process of upgrading my stereo system (2001 Carrera cabrio with cdr 220, amp and six speakers) and I just bought a Pioneer Avic D3 with a Pioneer cd changer, I-pod integration etc.

The issue that I'm having is that the wire harness that came with the order(metra # 70-1784 for vw's) does not seem to fit in my radio wires plug. Also the new wire harness brings cables for four speakers and I have six speakers in the car. (What do I do with the two rear speakers?????)

Is there any place in this site where I could find the radio/amp/speaker wiring squematics as far as cable colors, functions etc.???

I would appreciate any imput from someone since it's starting to become quite challenging.

Thanks guys....

sorry if this is off topic but can you post pics of the completed install?

Hope you find your answer,

Man, I'm so desperate looking for answers at the moment that believe me as soon as do it (IF I can do it !!) I'l be more than happy to take pictures of everything! I'm sure I will not be the last one trying this upgrade.

I just found out (from Metra) that there's not such thing as a radio wire harness for our cars, and that I would have to bypass the amp as well.(not making me very happy).

But anyways, I'll do my best with the pics...

May I suggest going to other forum like 6speedonline. a lot of members have done aftermarket headunit and I think they would know what kind of wiring harness you are looking for.

Call Rod at Car Audio Innovations. He will be able to help you.

I just finished installing a Kenwood double din 6019 in my car with the plug that Rod included in the package.

You can use the VW harness, I did. The car has four channels that go to the amp and are split out to 6 different locations via cross-overs. The door speakers are what Porsche passes off as subwoofers in an enclosure. The dash and rear speaker housings have a mid and tweeter in each location. If you have speaker level outputs on the AVIC, you can use line levelers to lower the voltage if you are really set on reusing the factory amp (not recommended). If the AVIC has pre-amp outputs, which I would suspect, you can put that signal into the factory amp (although you might have voltage issues). Personally, I'd recommend replacing the amp and addintg a crossover to protect the 'subs' and tweeters from the wrong frequencies. Then you can plug into the amp output wiring to go to each of the speakers. I don't have the wiring diagram but you can figure it out with a little trial and error.
