Center Dash Removal

I am at a loss without a manual and it looks like Bentley will be a long time in getting out a new one. My 2002 Boxster S has a CD storage section that is worthless to me. I ordered a plain storage unit off of ebay that is like the one I had on my 2000 Boxster. I plan to swap the storage unit for the CD holder. I can't figure out how the side panels that surround the A/C and the CD storage are attached to the console. Are they held on by clips or am I going to bust something if I put pressure on them?

Thanks,

Tom

I popped mine out, but i think you have to remove the bottom cubby before you can get the top one out- Then they go back in together to link up. I know that is vague, but it was a simple process once i figured it out!

Tom, not quite understanding your Bentley concern becuase everything you need is on 70-3 to 704. But more importantly I don't think those side needs to come off to get at the CD caddy. It's been awhile since I've been in there but it just slides forward, posibly making it easier to pull out the bottom one. The trick is to have a plastic trim tool to help coax out the caddy. If you don't have one these are the tools window repairs guys use and cost about $1.50 at a car parts store. It will keep you from harming the plastic parts.

you don't need to remove the side panels to remove the CD holder or cubby unit. if you ever DO need to remove the side pieces, grab them at the back and pull away to the side to release the back tabs, and then push from the back towards you to release the front tabs. they basically pop off, and i doubt you could actually break anything.

to remove the CD holder, open one of the CD trays, grab it close to the CD holder's face and pull. if that doesn't work, you're not pulling hard enough. ;)

if you feel like you're going to break it that way, you can cover the end of a flathead screwdriver with a cloth and pry a little bit around the edges to get it started. there are tabs in each corner.
