Roof Rack Slots

Recommended Posts

while detailing my 2000 996 Coupe one of the roof rack slots got pushed down and I can't get it to pop back up flush with the roof line. There is a plactic spacer or something on one side of the panel. Can anyone tell me what to do. I have tried to find an instruction page for it, but the manual has nothing. Thanks in advance.

Take them out clean the grooves and then re-install them.

Do a search I posted the instruction a while back.

Ok, sorry to be dense again, but what do I search under. I am relatively new to this site, but really have started to learn from your posts.

Actually, I think what has happened is that you have broken the little, white pieice of plastic that acts as a spring inside the roof rack slot. They get brittle over time and break. I've replaced all of mine after two went out. It is easy to do, and the parts are extremely cheap (a couple of bucks for each white plastic piece from sunset). If I recall, you have to take out the entire roof rack strip on the side that is broken...try using a plastic spatula or other soft plastic tool to get it started. good luck.
