987 radio face

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

First time posting here, but been keeping tabs for a bit learning more about 987s since my purchase of an '05 Base.

Anyways, to get to the reason of this. I keep wanting to use MP3 cd's and since the only 987 that I could afford (as my graduate present to myself) was a Base model lacking PCM to get the radio that plays MP3 cd's, I'd like to drop in an aftermarket radio.

I've done similar with my old cars but I'd like to know if anyone knows where I can source a broken / old / unwanted Radio. It can be a CDR-24 as I have currently or one that includes PCM.

I'd like to use it to make a mold and create my own custom dash surround. I've seen the japanese kit, and while it looks good, I'd much rather build the same item for considerably less. I just need something to take/make a mold while I sit in my apt, and not have to sacrifice music for my daily commute to work.

Any thoughts? I've tried ebay and while a few have come up there, they are all functional units and usually still $100+ Something from a wrecker would do as well, just as long as the general shape is still in tact.

I'll end up taking photos a long the way so a write-up would follow once I have everything in order.

Thanks a bunch!

Apolo
